Multiple Intelligenc es

description

Howard Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences utilizes aspects of cognitive and developmental psychology, anthropology, and sociology to explain the human intellect. The theory was introduced in 1983, with Gardner's book, Frames of Mind. Gardner's research consisted of brain research and interviews. Based on his findings, Gardner identified the seven (he has subsequently added an eighth and is considering a ninth) separate intelligences.

“To my mind, a human intellectual competence must entail a set of skills of problem solving;

Enabling the individual to resolve genuine problems or difficulties that he or she encounters;

And, when appropriate, to create an effective product and thereby laying the groundwork for the acquisition of new knowledge.”

Howard GardnerFrames of Mind: the Theory of Multiple Intelligences (1993)
