Shakti of the Mula Nakshatra

commentary by Pdt. David Frawley

Fruits of Worshipping EachNakshatra

"Prajapati desired, "May I find the root of progeny."

One who makes the appropriate offering to Prajapati, to Mula, gains the root ofprogeny.

Here Mula is ruled by Prajapati, the Creator, who also rules Rohini.

This gives Mula a more creative energy.

Mula means root.

It gives the root of progeny or strong creative powers, somewhat like Rohini.

In the negative sense in the Vedas, Mula ruled by Nirriti takes away the root of one' sprogeny or causes the loss of one' s first child."

Shakti of the Mula Nakshatra

commentary by Dennis Harness:

(emphasis by BP Lama)

"19. Mula: The Foundation Star

(Sagittarius 00 00 to 13 20 )

Mula translates as the root or original star, which is symbolized as a tied bunch of roots.

It is located around the galactic center of our universe.

The ruling planetary deity is Ketu, the South Node of the Moon, which reflects themystical nature of this asterism.

The primary deity is Nirritti, the Goddess of Destruction. She lives in the Kingdom ofthe Dead and is associated with the powerful goddess, Kali.

The shakti revealed here is the power to ruin, destroy, and to break things apart.

The 9/11 tragedy occurred when Mars and Ketu were conjoined near the point of thegalactic center in the middle of this intense nakshatra.

Mula has a rakshasa temperament with a primary motivation of kama."

Mula has a reputation for failure leading toannihilation (Nirriti) due to misconstrued

Mula people can express great genius through their eccentric sense of possibility; theyare very good at thinking "out of the box" and getting great insights from traveling

spiritual confidence = "blind faith". Lackspractical restraints and cannot retain accruedvalues (Alaxmi).

However. in daunting circumstances,Mula can inspire others with a curiousdelight in the hopelessness of the humancondition.

around the world. Mula can do a great deal of traveling during Ketu mahadasha.

Open-minded and unencumbered by practical concerns, Mula unhesitatingly takes onbig projects based on the oddly paired beliefs that on the one hand the Divine will guide(Guru) and on the other hand, nothing matters anyway (apathetic Ketu).

Inauspicious wealth-accruing human civilizations (Alaxmi) because Mula lacks bothpreparation and follow-through. Yet, complete openness to experience and lack ofpreconceptions opens the way to tremendous, cosmic-scale insights.

Mula's wisdom about human nature and its frailties may be considerable attimes, but insights are ephemeral (Ketu). Other more materially groundedplacements are necessary to preserve the insights in memory, e.g. a strong Budhafor writing.

Unassisted, Mula tends to make the same mistakes over and over again.

Through good times and bad, Mula remains quite neutral - taking neither credit norblame. It is in many ways a very spiritual placement, albeit a frustrating one in the worldof normal human endeavor.

In advance of starting the project (or marriage or employment) Mula shows littleinclination toward self-assessment, evaluation of existing skills or resourcesinventories, consideration of previous experience or track-record in similarpursuits. Typically, Mula considers previous experience or training to beirrelevant to present challenges.

Amidst a project, Mula can inspire others with the seeming profundity of their faith inProvidence and acts of unfettered courage.

Mula is well represented by the Tarot card "The Fool" which shows anopen-minded fellow taking a big step right off the edge of a cliff.

There are indeed times in life when common sense (Shani) tells us to run but wemust fight on anyway, and hope to live another day. In these desperate orirrational circumstances, Mula's foolish wisdom can offer a beacon shininghopefully in the darkest, most fearful night.

However Mula's bad reputation comes from Ketu. In the middle of a commitment, abattle, a job being done albeit with poor preparation and inadequate resources, Mula canswitch from an icon of splendid risk to a suddenly disengaged traitor, abdicant, orcoward.

Ketu = karaka for sudden disconnection. Mula has a tendency to "walk out" inabandonment of a commitment or simply surrender without warning. Ketu is awanderer, and Mula will wander off to another battle, another relationship, another job, another project.

If Mula contains Shani or Guru there may be more substance to the native 's behavior, and commitments may last longer with more common sense or a more philosophical lessannihilating type of religious faith.

Natives display a general tendency to bite off more than one can chew, overestimateone's human abilities, and in the face of overwhelming circumstances to simplywithdraw (Ketu)

"Opposite" or "reverse" of movement; forbidding movement or forbidding repayment;finite, limited, sticks to its base; does not exceed a narrow, pre-set range.

the native is charismatic yet insincere. Externally capable; internally unhappy.

Binding or restraint, root-bound; chained, bound or arrested.

Esoterically, Mula is considered the center of Earth's galaxy, the celestial "root" of ourgreater galactic civilization ( of which Earthly civilization is only one component)

Traditionally it is forbidden to make loans during the Moon's transit through MulaNakshatra . The repayment of such loans would be difficult-to-impossible, as they arecursed by Mula's energy of bound-ness or movement without progress.

Detachment from Ketu + Expansion from Guru

Reckless yet religious

self-destructive yet self-regenerating

Mula = self-destructive, but not deadly. The Mula native seemingly destroys oneself"down to the root" -- but no farther.

The root itself is not destroyed. Vitality sustains.

In fact, the root almost always regenerates.

The subject matter of Mula's secretly self-destructive agenda will be found in thekaraka portfolio of the affected graha, the bhava containing the Mula graha, andincoming drishti to the bhava.

As always, Chandra is most intensely characterized by the qualities of HisNakshatra . Chandra in Mula: yields more vividly self-destructive results than anyother graha in Mula.

Accidents and life-threatening injuries

Mula is especially associated with dangerous burns. Also drowning, choking, violent accidents, broken bones, and dangerous sexual behaviors.

Mula behavior is characteristically negligent and oblivious to precaution. Yet, theAlaxmi native generally will not die from even the most catastrophic Mula-typicalaccident. Indeed, despite a lifetime which may look to outsiders like a chain ofconcatenated over-reachings and missteps, the optimistic Mula eventuallyrecovers their vitality after each incident. Although not much the wiser forexperience, they tend to be long-lived.

Sex and drug addictions

Mula = related to alcoholism and sex or drug addictions. Yet the addictions willnot kill the native .

Addictive cycles begin with sudden and destructive power. Just as suddenly, theaddiction is finished. In recovery, one may fill a priestly role in service to theaddicted.

"Reckless disregard for consequences".

The Mula-Soma native may engage in unsupportable or "senseless" risk.

Mula can also be cruel, due to the reckless detachment under rules ofno-boundaries Ketu, which can blunt or even eradicate humane empathy.

Chandra in Mula is especially reckless with matters of emotional health and well-being.

"An accident waiting to happen."

Life seems to produce one "accident" after the next. Yet the native recoversfromeach and every crisis, no matter how apparently deadly.

After each recovery, the native begins a new cycle self-destructive choiceswhichrather inevitably produce the next "accident".

Counseling the Mula Client

When counseling the Mula client, it is important to appreciate that the Mulanative rarely realizes that one is making systematically self-destructivechoices.

Indeed, Mula's choices follow a reckless, apathetic, Ketu-driven pattern that iseasy enough for an outsider to detect. However, the Mula native subjectivelyperceives oneself as an innocent victimof a series of "Amazing accidents".

Emotional distancing

Chandra in Ketu-ruled Nakshatra (Azwini, Magha, Kula) is generallycharacterized by an emotional distancing from others, even from one's ownchildren.

Also Ketu imposes a certain blunting of the interpersonal awareness, so that onemay be able to engage in intimate relationships only at the most primitive survivalor sexual level.

Humble, religious nature

Naturally, Mula's fundamental disengagement from the world of "naturalconsequences" leads to a host of physical, social, emotional, and mentalproblems.

However, Mula influence is surprisingly good for the religious life. the native feels anever deepening sense of "shock and awe" at the intensity of life's "random" events.

Mula is characteristically unable to comprehend the cause-and-effect ways in whichone's own choices can attract the perfect conditions for a major life catastrophe. Basedon a life narrative featuring crisis after crisis, the native may attribute great andglorious powers to a merciful God who seems to be wrathfully destructive -- and who

yet offers salvation, time after time.

Although Mula does lack true empathy (Ketu), one may have strongly spiritualizednature (Ketu) and provide surprisingly compassionate (Guru) support for others. TheMula native is usually honest, humble, and sincere.

Note the self-destructive narrative in this "extreme Mula" nativity with MulaChandra, Mula Guru, and Mula Shani in bandhu bhava, all receiving drishti ofRahu.

BP Lama viewpoint on Mula Nakshatra: "Mula" ("the root") causes unusually self-destructive psychic and spiritualizedreasoning patterns.

Mula natives suffer more than their fair share of accidents, indignities, and loss.

Yet Mula folk typically remain surprised and bewildered about the roots of theircondition.

The chain of repeating misfortune is a mystery to them.

How this pattern could be anything else than a strange and magical series ofrandom, terrible accidents?

Indeed there is no random accident. Yet it is the rare Mula native who can discern theRoot of the problem!

The Galactic Sun The image at left represents a top-down view of the Earth's larger region, our "MilkyWay" (white) galaxy. The galactic Sun is a bright star which resides at the center of theMilky Way galaxy. The image shows the relative position of Earth's Sun (Savitra).

The swas-tika symbol, before it was demonically appropriated by the Nazi regime, served as a millenniums-old map of our home galaxy. (Draw an anti-clockwise Vedicswa (self, home, root) tika (map, marker) upon the photo to right and you will see theold map.]

The "rose" flower, sacred and symbolic to many traditions, bears the map as well. Sonaturally does the lotus flower. The sacred Tibetan-pronounciation-Buddhist mantra OmMani Peme Hung [om mani padme hum] = "hail to the jewel in the center of the lotus".

Mula influence suggests that a part of one's divine consciousness still harkens back to aprevious incarnation, not in Earth, but in the sacred-but-terrifying world of the GalacticSun.

In between Earth incarnations (which are rather demanding although quite desirable forkarmic purposes) our souls may take intermediary "incarnations" (which is rather amisnomer because only in Earth do we get these famous "meat-bodies"!)

One of the potential locales for a "stop-over" lifetime is the realm of the GalacticSun.

This brilliant star is the center of our galaxy and it is a wonderful place in many ways. Ifone has the privilege to linger there, one becomes more god-like for the duration ofone's stay.

The "physical" body form is long-lived while in this realm; stupendously strong, alertand perceptive but not suspicious (suspiciousness is a component of the animal bodieswe utilize here in Earth); and glamorously attractive as only the gods can be.

The consciousness here is much closer to the core of divine intelligence andCon-fidence runs very high. Of course, ego runs pretty high too, and there are socialissues of competition for attention and dominance, proportional to godly life - on a largescale!

Returning to Earth, one has only the barest background memory, never fully conscious,of this previous incarnational experience. The lingering subconscious memories dohowever cause trouble for anyone with graha in Mula Nakshatra, particularly Chandrain any of the Mula pada (see Shil Ponde's description of the Mula quarters, above.)

The graha trouble is worst when Chandra (Moon) occupies Mula, but a strong Sun inMula will also show some effects. Essentially, the native takes crazy risks, believing thatthe risks have much less destructive potential than they really do have for humans.

Scattered, optimistic Mula = associated withcatastrophic events and failures after takingtoo-bigrisks.

Due to Mula memories overflow from the galactic center, one subconsciouslybelieves one has the ability, the strength, the determination, or the intelligence toovercome the obstacles which others rightly fear -- or survive the risk.

11 of 12 2/10/2014 7:33 PM

Page 12: Mula Vichruta Nirriti Nakshatra_ BP Lama Jyotisha

Mula measurements in all departments of life - but especially the emotional areas - tendto be unrealistic(Ketu). The Mula issues will depend on which graha and whichdomain.

The Mula mind tends toward overestimation of human capabilities, and the resultsare often catastrophic.

However Mula generally gives a happy attitude of bewilderment, rather thanresentment or guilt.

Mula reasoning produces very sensibleconclusions for a god or one with a god-likebody and god-like access to divine rejuvenatingpowers.

But we puny humans are much more vulnerable to forces of Earth Nature and thebacklash of human social punishment than we sometimes appreciate.

Mula memories signal to the native that one can "beat the system" through one's (super)natural endowment and the power of Faith.

Ketu-ruled Mula = Intuitive Faith in one's own centrality.

Unfortunately from an Earth-based perspective, the greater center of our loka isvery difficult to see or even imagine. Modern science has not quite maturedenough to confirm the vision of the rishi.

Mula people have a powerful sense of their core importance to the welfare oftheir group however the group often finds Mula's leadership style to bemisinformed, incomplete, over-confident, lacking core strength or core viability.

"And now my friends,

all that is true,

all that is noble,

all that is just and pure,

all that is loveable and gracious,

whatever is excellent and admirable -

fill all your thoughts with these things."
