    From theEditors DeskWelcome to the GraduateJournal of Translation andInterpretation Studies (MTIJ), a project based on the

    Master of Science in Translation and Interpretation

    Studies (MTI)program at Ismail Qemali University incoastal Vlora city (University of Vlora).

    The primary goals of the journal are to showcase

    and share graduate research, to encouragetranslator and interpreter education programs to

    incorporate graduate research into their curricula,

    as well as to provide a resource for students in

    translator and interpreter education programs.

    The impetus for this journal grew out of the type of

    coursework required of all Master of Science in

    Translation and Interpretation students at

    University of Vlora. We designed the MTI

    curriculum so that it could fit the framework

    introduced by the EMT Expert Group in the

    publication titled Competences for Professional

    Translators, Experts in Multilingual and Multimedia

    Communication (Gambier, 2009). Students mustproduce papers that are based on data driven,

    empirical research. Clearly there is insufficient time

    for students to identify a question, design a

    research project, collect sufficient data, analyze the

    data and write their papers from October to

    February or from March to July. So, the MTIJ

    provides MA and PhD students with three data

    pools available for research:

    1. B-Language Speech Pool (EN)

    2. A>B Simultaneous Interpreting Pool (SQ>EN)

    3. B>A Simultaneous Interpreting Pool (EN>SQ)

    Thedata pools consist ofvideo filesfrom a growth-to-competence project that I have been working on

    since the launch of the MTI program. The firstdatapool is a growing set of video files in which

    students deliver three-point speeches into their B

    language (English) for their ConsecutiveInterpreting course. The second data poolis a setof video files in which students simultaneously

    interpret into their A language (Albanian). Thethird data poolis a set of video files in whichstudents simultaneously interpret into their B

    language (English). Thus, students can begin toidentify and analyze data relevant to their research

    topic at the beginning of each semester while

    adding their own contributions to the data pools as

    they submit their weekly video assignment.

    We believe that graduate students are very capable

    of contributing to and improving our

    understanding of translating and interpreting andthat is why we seek to showcase their work. We

    also hope that other T&I education programs will

    encourage their students to submit research papers

    to the journal.

    Therefore, allow me to proudly present MTIJ, the

    Graduate Journal of Translation and Interpretation

    Studies.

    The MTIJ welcomes

    original scholarlyresearch as well as bookandfilm reviewswritten by MA andPhD students from alldisciplines with aconnectiontoTranslation andInterpretation Studies.

    Guidelines

    Each article should

    include an abstract,fivekeywords and anauthors biosketch,which should be nolonger thanfivesentences and includean e-mail address. All references should becited following theHarvard referencingstyle.

    Submissions

    Original Research

    Articles describingresearch conducted as agraduate student. Reviews includingcritiques of publishedarticles or texts. Course-related Papersthat reflect excellence incontent, presentationand research.

    Deadline

    We are now accepting

    submissions for thefirst issue of ourjournal. The deadlineto be considered forthisfirstpublication isJuly 1, 2013.
