    Founded and formally inaugurated during the19th anniversary celebration of Manila DoctorsHospital (MDH) in 1975 and first known as the

    Manila Doctors Hospital School of Nursing, theCollege was originally located at the fourth floorof the Manila Doctors Hospital along UnitedNations Avenue in Manila. Its founding membersinclude Dr. Ambrosio Tangco, Dr. Gonzalo F.Austria, Dr. Fidel Estrada, Dr. Jose Villanueva

    and then members of the Board of Directors ofMDH. Mrs. Cristeta T. Patajo was the firstprincipal.

    The College initially offered a three-yeargraduate nursing course. In 1978, a permit tooffer the four-year Bachelor of Science in

    Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Liberal Artscourses was granted by the then Department ofEducation, Culture and Sports (DECS).

    A major milestone was marked in the Schoolshistory when the Metrobank Foundation Inc.acquired control of the Manila Medical Services,Inc. in February 1979. With the takeover, a newset of hospital directors was elected, headed byDr. George S.K. Ty as Chairman and Mr.Edgardo Espiritu as President.

    In February 14,1980, the School

    was renamedManila DoctorsCollege as thestatus collegewas granted as areflection of its

    varied courseofferings, whichincludedBachelor ofScience inNursing,

    Bachelor ofScience inPsychology,Bachelor ofScience inZoology, and atwo-yearcertificate coursein PulmonaryTherapy.

    1993, theCollege wasregistered as a

    non-stockcorporation withthe Securitiesand ExchangeCommission(SEC). Two

    years later, theNursing programwas accordedLevel IAccreditation bythe Federation ofAccreditingAgencies of thePhilippines byvirtue of theauthority grantedby the thenDECS, having

    satisfactorily metthe standardsand fulfilled therequirements of

    the PhilippineAccreditingAssociation of

    School, Colleges,and Universities(PAASCU). InApril 2002, theCollege formallyearned the Level

    II Accreditationfrom PAASCU.

    The boom innursing education

    paved the way forthe expansion ofthe College. As anewly organizedmanagementprepared for theinflux of students,efforts wereconscientiouslytaken to maintainthe quality of

    education. Asenrollment steadilygrew, the College

    adhered toacademic standardsimposed by bothprivate accreditingbodies andconcerned

    governmentagencies. As aresult, theCommission onHigher Education(CHED) granted fullDeregulated Statusto the College inOctober 2003.

    In 2004, the Collegeinaugurated its newcampus along

    President DiosdadoMacapagalBoulevard in PasayCity. A year later,the Doa Tytana

    Tower was built.The new seven-storey facility was

    inaugurated duringthe Colleges 30thanniversarycelebration.

    Having carved its niche in the nursing education

    producing topnotchers and consistently posting anabove average performance in the NursingLicensure Examination (NLE), the College nowpositions itself as a provider of high qualityeducation in the Philippines. In addition toNursing, the College also offers Psychology and

    certificate courses in caregiving, and shortcourses in foreign language and culinary arts. In2008, the College opened the Bachelor ofScience in Holistic Nutrition with Culinary Artsprogram, the first of its kind in the Philippines. TheNursing program, on the other hand, was grantedLevel II Reaccreditation by the PAASCU. A yearafter, recognizing the demand of the industry andhigh school students, the College welcomed itsfirst batch of Bachelor of Science in Hotel andRestaurant Management students, and in 2010,

    the first batch of Bachelor of Science inInformation Technology. The same year, theHolistic Nutrition with Culinary Arts and Hotel and

    Restaurant Management programs were grantedfull recognition by the CHED, while thePsychology program was accorded Level IAccreditation by the Philippine Association ofColleges and Universities Commission onAccreditation (PACUCOA). The following year,

    the College opened new business coursesAccountancy, Entrepreneurship and BusinessAdministration with major studies in BusinessEconomics, Financial Management, OperationsManagement, Marketing Management, andHuman Resource Development Management.

    In 2010, as a critical partof the thrust of breakingnew grounds, Manila

    Doctors Collegetransformed into ManilaTytana Colleges inpursuit of its vision of theschool. The CollegesHonorary Chairman and

    Metrobank Group ofCompanies ChairmanDr. George S.K. Tydedicates the institutionto his late mother, DoaVictoria Ty-Tan as part ofhis legacy to the Filipinopeople and in the besttradition of the Filipinoshighest regard andrespect for motherhood.In October 2010, the newname was registered

    with the SEC, while theoperative date of usewas set to June 1, 2011.The College of Nursing,

    retaining the name of theCollege, is now calledManila Doctors College

    of Nursing.

    and Uranus, the god of Heaven. Gaea andUranus became the first divine couple of theWorld.
