  1. 1. To build a safer more direct way for Magnolia residents to walk and bike to the soon-to-be-expanded Smith Cove Park and citywide trails. The Magnolia Trail Community has received a $25,000 matching grant to hire a landscape architect to do a feasibility study for a 150-yard trail connecting West Galer Street, near secret beach, to West Marina Place near the Elliott Bay Marina. The Goal
  2. 2. Park History The trail harkens make to a plan developed in the early 1900s by the Olmsted brothers with the goal of creating a network of parks across the city. That plan, which included 37 parks such as Seward Park and Aboretum also included Magnolia Boulevard with its magnificent views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountain Range.
  3. 3. But even today, Magnolia has no easy access to its beautiful waterfront . The Magnolia Trail Project would fill a missing link that would give residents direct, safe and easy access to such waterfront treasures as the marina, Smith Cove Park and Myrtle Edwards Park. Our Vision
  4. 4. Promotes healthy lifestyles by encouraging bicycling and walking. Offers a safer route than Thorndyke or the Magnolia Bridge Would help re-invigorate Magnolia Village by offering easier access to Magnolia by visitors without encouraging more traffic. Studies show trails add significant value to adjacent properties. Benefits
  5. 5. The Magnolia Trail Community will work with the city to address the concerns of residents in the area including parking and drainage. Since residents will access the trail by foot or on bike, there will not be a significant increase in cars in the vicinity of the trail. Other Considerations
  6. 6. We expect to find a contractor to do the feasibility study by the end of February. The contractor will hold a public meeting in April to get input related to the feasibility study. The contractor will have a second public meeting in the fall to share the study results. If the study determines that a trail is feasible, we will seek funds to design the trail and, later, construct the trail. Next Steps
