    Heathdale Christian College will offer classes up to grade six at its Melton campus next year.

    The school, which celebrated its first anniversary last week, operates out of the former Mowbray College site.

    In its first year it offered classes from prep through to grade four and is keen to continue toward its goal of offering a kinder to year 12 curriculum by 2021.

    Heathdale Christian College enrolment officer Annisa Croxon said the school was serious about growing.

    I think the Mowbray experience has hurt the local community and there is a suspicion about whether we are serious or able to do all we plan, she said.

    I hope that the community will notice we are there. We are doubling [student] numbers next year and we are serious about seeing it grow.

    The school hopes to keep up with the fast pace of growth of the western suburbs and start classes for year seven students by 2017.

    The usual problem with fast growth corridors is that infrastructure rarely keeps pace, Ms Croxon said.

    We feel we are well placed to help the community in at least one of those infrastructure tight spots.

    There were 33 pupils at Heathdale Christian College this year.

    Moorabool police are appealing for witnesses to a hit-and-run last Monday.

    Leading Senior Constable John Volf, of the Moorabool highway patrol, said police want to speak to anyone who saw a minor collision between two cars about 3.30pm on Monday, November 10.

    Leading Senior Constable Volf said one of the drivers left the scene without exchanging details.

    He said a blue Honda sedan was travelling east towards Melton along Old Western Highway near Flanagans Lane.

    A light blue Ford sedan with a male driver had come from the Western Freeway off-ramp and hit the off-side rear of the Honda.

    The accident caused moderate damage.

    The Ford driver did not stop but then drove north along Flanagans Lane.

    The victim was able to get only the first letter of the offending vehicle rego, which was a W, Leading Senior Constable Volf said.

    Given the time of day, there may have been other motorists around so any information would be great.

    Police seek hit-run help

    Long before Instagram and Facebook, Giovanna Mercuri had social networking down pat the old-fashioned, yet timeless, way.

    Ms Mercuri paid $1 for a pen-pal service in 1988 and was paired with Cami Huhn, from Michigan, US.

    The relationship developed into a sisterhood. The uncanny similarities between the two continue to delight and shock the Caroline Springs resident.

    I became a pre-school teacher, she became a pre-school teacher; I then went into primary school teaching, she became a primary school teacher; we both got married the same year; she married an engineer, I married an engineer; and we had children the same year, Ms Mercuri said.

    The sisters met each other for the first time last month when Ms Mercuri flew to Michigan, where her pen-pal lives.

    When we went to Camis house, she organised a big party and her whole community turned up to meet the pen friends, Ms Mercuri said.

    The pair still write to each other and even though its a little old-fashioned, Ms Mercuri says its more exciting to receive a letter in the mail than a Facebook notification on her phone.
