“The Lord has given me a well trained tongue that I may know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them. The Lord God is my help therefore I am not disgraced. I have set my face like flint knowing that I will not be put to shame....Because of this God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every other name, that at the name of Jesus every knee must bend.” May the words of Isaiah and Paul help

set the stage for our Holy Week. The gospel of Mark provides details of the passion not just to provide information but to rouse us to break from routine and ordinariness and appreciate the saving mystery of salvation. We may read and reflect upon the scriptures and find great meaning as we live in 2018. The suffering servants are those displaced by war and the natural disasters. Those trying Christ are the oppressors, attacking Christians in various parts of the world as the Sudan, Syria and Nigeria. The passion of Christ continues today when wars rage, poverty grows, exploitation reigns, and worst of all, indifference to suffering continues. We are called this week to die and rise with the Christ. Pope Francis has asked that we not be robbed of our missionary enthusiasm. He tells us not to look the other way but to address the cause, as well as the effects, out of concern for those who are marginalized and suffering. May this be a new approach to Holy Week.

“El mismo Señor me ha dado una lengua de discípulo, para que yo sepa reconfortar al fatigado con una palabra de aliento. El Señor viene en mi ayuda: por eso, no quedé confundido. Endurecí mi rostro como el pedernal, y sé muy bien que no seré defraudado… Por eso, Dios lo exaltó y le dio el Nombre que está sobre todo nombre, para que al nombre de Jesús, se doble toda rodilla en el cielo, en la tierra y en los abismos. Que las palabras de Isaías y San Pablo preparen el camino de nuestra Semana Santa. El evangelio de San Marcos provee detalles de la pasión no sólo para informar sino para motivarnos a romper la rutina y lo ordinario y apreciar el gran misterio de la salvación. Puede que leamos y reflexionemos sobre las escrituras y encontremos gran significado al vivir el 2018. Los siervos que sufren son aquellos desplazados por la guerra y desastres naturales. Aquellos provando a Jesús son los opresores, atacando a cristianos en varias partes del mundo, como Sudán, Siria y Nigeria. La pasión de Cristo continúa hoy cuando las guerras arrasan, la pobreza crece, la explotación reina y peor de todo, la indiferencia al sufrimiento continúa. Estamos llamados esta semana a morir y resucitar con el Cristo. El Papa Francisco ha pedido que no se nos robe nuestro entusiasmo misionero. Nos dice que no volteemos la mirada sino que encaremos la causa, así como los efectos, por compasión por aquellos que han sido marginados y sufren. Ojalá ésta pueda ser una nueva forma de abordar la Semana Santa.

quanto mi ha dato, ma lo risusciti l’ultimo giorno”. Come la morte è arrivata dall’uomo così anche la risurrezione è arrivata dall’uomo, il mondo è stato salvato per mezzo di lui. Questa è la luce della Cena. Al contrario, la tenebra viene da Giuda. Nessuno è penetrato nel suo segreto. Si è visto in lui un mercante di quartiere che aveva un piccolo negozio, e che non ha sopportato il peso della sua vocazione. Egli incarnerebbe il dramma della piccolezza umana. O, ancora, quello di un giocatore freddo e scaltro dalle grandi ambizioni politiche. Lanza del Vasto ha fato di lui l’incarnazione demoniaca e disumanizzata del male. Tuttavia nessuna di queste figure collima con quella del Giuda del Vangelo. Era un brav’uomo, come molti altri. È stato chiamato come gli altri. Non ha capito che cosa gli si faceva fare, ma gli altri lo capivano? Egli era annunciato dai profeti, e quello che doveva accadere è accaduto.

DEADLINE APPROACHING Two St. Vito-Most Holy Trinity

scholarships are available to be awarded TWO GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

who will be enrolling in a full-time undergraduate course of study in the Fall.

Scholarship applications are available at the parish rectory’s office. Please come to the

rectory to obtain an application which should be completed and returned to the office by

March 31, 2018. All requirements must be met to be considered

Dos becas de parte de St. Vito-Most Holy Trinity están disponibles para ser concedidas a DOS ESTUDIANTES EN EL ULTIMO AÑO DE LA ESCUELA los cuales se inscriban en un programa universitario de

tiempo completo en el otoño del 2018.

Las solicitudes de becas están disponibles en la oficina de la rectoría parroquial. Por favor,
