    FROM FR. ADRIAN.

This is an interesting letter regarding the finances of the

parish and how we might make things better by just making

a slight adjustment to our giving on Sunday.

Father Adrian,I wanted to give my two cents worth regarding what I

see in the weekly bulletin related to collections. San Luis

Rey parish has 5000 families registered (from SLR web-site). If we use the 5,000 number and divide it into the$16,373 collected last week we come up with $3.28 do-nated per family (I know not everyone donates butsometimes numbers are fun to work with). The churchneeds $24,400 per week to meet its obligations or $4.88per family, an extra $1.60 per family per week. Wow,what a sacrifice we need to make each week!!! Letssee: one half of a bean and cheese burrito, cut backdriving 10 miles, one less DVD rental, no dessert for onedinner, one less ITunes song.

The beauty of this sacrifice is that it is for a cause welove. I believe as a parish we do not realize how easy itwould be to fix this problem. Now, if we really decidedto do something about the financial unbalance we couldtriple this gift from $1.60 to $5.00 each family and bringin another $884,000 ($3.40 X 5000 X 52 weeks =$884,00) as a parish to support the needs of the Missionearth quake retrofit initiative.

Just my two cents worth. Even though I am out ofwork, I know I can come up with $5.00 to help thiscause!~~Peace

With gratitude for the gifts they have received, parishionersand visitors made a joyful return to the Lord of the following:

THE CATECHETICAL MINUTE - ROMAN MISSAL

Mystagogy Discerning the Mystery of Our Faith Part 2

Several of comments I received in response to the last arti-cle (part 1), were that it took some work to read it andlearning about our faith isnt supposed to be hard. Theintent of the language and thought of the last article was

not to be hard but it was to inform the community weare all involved in this celebration called liturgy. Thecouncil calls us to the full and active (conscious) participa-tion by all the people. We need to be able to actively re-flect on the actions and language of the Mass. One of the key roles of Mystagogy is that it allows us toreflect and mark in our mind essential elements of our doc-trinal faith The Mystery of Faith as proclaimed by thecelebrant immediately after the consecration and the ex-pression of that Mystery in liturgy and life in our response,We proclaim your Death, O Lord and profess your Resur-rection, until you come again The hard work is that it is

a response in faith, not a lifeless automatic response. The hard work of Mystagogy is that we are called to listenand internalize what we hear. From the instruction of theRCIA we in the company of the newly baptized are to:

have the experience of the sacraments and recognizehow this experienceincreases as it is lived

at the same time the language of the liturgy is to leadto the deepening of their grasp of the paschal mystery

a fuller more effective understanding of the myster-ies

and giving the first place to being Truly..renewed inmind

The challenge for all of us is to take the time to be open todoing the hard work of Mystagogy.

ARE YOU BREATHING UNDER WATER?An opportunity for all those who wish to journey through

spiritual growth using Scripture and the 12 Steps. Beginning: Wednesday August 29th From 7:00pm-8:30pm, Rm. #21 of the McKeon Ctr. For information, call Bill Bischoff at 760-547-0702

RCIAINQUIRY: Have you ever had questions about theCatholic Church? How do you become a member of theCatholic Church? For those not baptized, baptized in anotherChristian church, or baptized Catholic but inactive in thechurch, please call 760-547-0702.

RCIA FOR YOUTH: A very important part of our YouthFaith Formation is the RCIA adapted for young people. TheRCIA is for those young people who have not been baptizedor wish to enter the Church from another Christian faith com-munity (i.e. Baptist). In our world today many young men andwomen do not have the opportunity to stay in one place longenough to belong to a Catholic parish. Others find in theCatholic Church something more fulfilling than the Christiancommunity into which they were born.

Those wishing to enroll in the RCIA process please sign upfor our High School Faith Formation Program, the same regis-tration as our Youth Confirmation. For information please callBill Bischoff at 760-547-0702 or write: [email protected].

ASSIST WITH A BIBLE: At the Easter Vigil our parish com-munity witnessed forty five people receiving the sacramentsnecessary to complete their full entrance into the Church. One of the key elements of their catechesis is the coming toknow the Scriptures, the Word of God, on a weekly basis. Dur-

ing class during the week and again when they gather on Sun-day they come to build a relationship with Jesus Christ thatthey will carry with them for all their lives.

For this to take place the RCIA catechumens & candidatesare given a Bible at the ceremony marking the beginning oftheir journey of faith. Our parish faith formation budget isstretched this year trying to cover many, many, needs. Yourhelp will be greatly appreciated if you could help us with pro-viding Bibles to our RICA groups (both English & Spanish). Adonation of $20.00, or any amount, would help us in purchas-ing a Bible for each RCIA catechumen or candidate enteringthe Church next Easter. If you wish to give, you may make adonation at the Parish Office, in Bill Bischoffs office, or drop itinto the collection in an envelope marked BIBLES. Any help

you can give will be greatly appreciated. If you have any ques-tions call Bill Bischoff at 760-547-0702.Many of the people coming into the Church have many

questions about the place of the Blessed Mother in the life ofthe Church. In their time spent in RCIA many times a strongdevotion to Mary comes about for the new Catholic. There-fore a need for an adult rosary to be given to them is also aneed in the RCIA process. A donation of $10.00 will help inacquiring rosaries for these individuals. The same manner forgiving is as written above. Any questions please call Bill Bisch-off at 760-547-0702.
