ISSUE 12 • VOLUME 3 • DECEMBER 2010 We would like to thank everyone who helped out this month on the Movember campaign. Participation at the November 26 th game was such a success, it broke the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of moustached men, 1,131 in total! Even during the game, men were seen shaving their beards and goatees to qualify their moustache for the monumental moment after the Wild victory over the Nashville Predators. Sun Country Airlines gave away special Movember t-shirts to the first 1,500 fans in attendance to support the cause. Because of the overwhelming numbers of men that turned out for the cause, only a handful were lucky enough to receive one for the photo pictured below. Other fans were able to register for free travel vouchers courtesy of Sun Country Airlines. A special thanks to Sun Country Airlines for all of their efforts in making Movember a huge success. To date the Minnesota Wild and the Minnesota Wild Mo Bros Team, led by Wild defenseman, Nick Schultz has raised over $29,000 for Movember (donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG). Our campaign even generated a plethora of local and national media attention thanks to the help of KARE 11 news. Kudos to everyone that played a part in Movember 2010. Looking forward to next year!! Movember Results The Minnesota Wild, RBC Wealth Management and Minnesota Hockey have all teamed up to offer fans the opportunity to own a piece of the Year Ten Team. Presented by RBC Wealth Management, Wild team practice jerseys are currently being auctioned off with all proceeds going directly to Minnesota Hockey to benefit the Gear Up Minnesota program. Gear Up Minnesota provides associations throughout the state with starter hockey equipment. Close to $125,000 in equipment has been donated to associations across Minnesota in the ten years of the program’s existence. Winners will be invited to a February closed to the public Wild practice to meet the player whose jersey they won! To make a bid on your favorite player, click here. Pollstar, the leading concert industry publication, announced that Xcel Energy Center has been nominated for “Arena of the Year” as part of its 22nd Annual Concert Industry Award. In the ten years that Xcel Energy Center has been open, it has been nominated 9 times. Xcel Energy Center was nominated by a committee of several hundred randomly selected concert industry executives. The committee also nominated six other venues that include: Air Canada Centre (Toronto), BOK Center (Tulsa), HP Pavilion (San Jose), Madison Square Garden (NYC), Bridgestone Arena (Nashville), and Staples Center (LA). Madison Square Garden won the award last year and only three arenas have won the award since its inception in 1992 – Madison Square Garden (15 times), Staples Center (2 times) and Palace of Auburn Hills (1 time). The concert industry has been very successful for Xcel Energy Center. In 2010, Bon Jovi and Lady Gaga performed two sold out concerts each. Other performers include Dave Matthews Band, Taylor Swift, Sting, Brad Paisley and Roger Waters. There have been over 1,500 sporting events, concerts, family shows and special events held in the building since it opened in September 2000. The winner of the “Arena of the Year” will be announced at the Pollstar Concert Industry Awards show on February 5, 2011 in Los Angeles. Best of luck to the home of Minnesota Wild Hockey!!
