Cass Careers Fair 2018Friday 28th September 2018, 2-5.30pm etc. venues, 155 Bishopsgate, London, EC2M 3YD

WHAT IMPRESSES EMPLOYERS?

The Careers Fair in September is your opportunity to meet, ask questions and develop contacts with over 60 companies who are interested in recruiting Cass graduates for a variety of roles across many sectors.

This event runs at the beginning of the academic year as many recruitment deadlines fall between August and November. It’s vital to prepare by researching companies and getting your applications in early if you want to stay ahead of the competition.

The Fair is an ideal opportunity to ask relevant questions and obtain information that you can’t get from company websites.

MAKE SURE YOU:

DO YOUR RESEARCH Do your research beforehand so you can use the time during the fair to ask intelligent, business-focused questions to company representatives, this way you can really stand out. Refer to the company profiles in this booklet as well as company websites, to work out which companies you want to speak to and learn more about what they do and the opportunities they offer.

ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS Think about the questions you want to ask them in advance; don’t ask “What do you do?” or any questions you could answer yourself by looking at the company website such as “Do you sponsor?” Demonstrate your knowledge and enthusiasm for the sector and the company and make a winning first impression.

TYPES OF QUESTIONS YOU COULD ASK;The work: what would you be doing on a day to day basis? How varied is the work? How many clients do they work with at any one time?

Skills required: what are the main skills that they look for? How can you demonstrate them effectively? How do I make myself and my skills really stand out?

The workplace: how big are the teams you work in? How would they describe the culture of the company? How often are you based in the office and out with clients?

Training and development: What training and development is available? What are the opportunities for progression as your career develops?

Their experience: What do they enjoy about their work? What are the challenges they face?

Tip: Think about who you are speaking to and their role within the organisation. For example a recruiter or someone from HR might have more detail about the training, development and assessment processes as well as other details on the structure of training, where a recent graduate who has joined the company might be able to give more personal insights about the company and assessment process and what they did to prepare.

PREPARE YOUR ANSWERSBe prepared to answer questions about your career, interests and motivations.

Ensure you practice your answers beforehand to help you focus your ‘pitch’ about yourself

NETWORK EFFECTIVELYKeep a record of the names of the representative’s you speak to at the fair. It’s good to mention in your cover letter or during a job interview who you spoke to and what you learned that appealed to you about the role and company. This shows you have a real interest in working in the industry and for that particular organisation. After the fair, you may also wish to follow up with an email to the company representative to learn more about what skills and attributes they

are looking for, or connect with them through LinkedIn. When contacting representatives don’t forget to remind them who you are and where they met you, as they meet so many people.

PRESENT YOURSELF PROFESSIONALLYEnsure you are in business dress for the fair and every employer-led event. Presenting yourself professionally by wearing business dress is a must, as is keeping accessories, jewellery, perfume, aftershave and make-up to a minimum. Men should wear a conservative suit, shirt and tie in neutral colours, (typically, black, dark blue and grey). Women should wear trouser or dress suits with a blouse and smart shoes.

Please note, as with all company events, you will not be allowed access to the fair if you are not wearing appropriate business attire.

The fair will start at 2pm and will run through to 5.30pm, although you do not have to arrive for 2pm. Ensure that you leave yourself enough time to talk to the companies you are interested in. You may have to wait to speak to representatives at some stands, if this is the case, listen to what they are telling other people and make sure you don’t ask them the same question. Also, there may be other people wanting to speak to the representatives so don’t take up too much of their time.

“The event was well organised, there was a good attendance of students who were genuinely interested in finding out more”Marr Procurement

There is no cloakroom at the venue and the event will be very busy so please keep your bags and coats to a minimum remembering you will need to carry them with you.

SKILLS SESSIONSIn addition to over 60 companies attending the fair we will also be hosting four skills sessions in the London Wall suite. You don’t need to reserve a place as they will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis and once the sessions have started there will be no admittance to the sessions.

Confirmed so far are M&G Investments and EY. Further details will be announced in your induction.

Accuracy is a leading independent financial advisory firm offering companies and their shareholders global reach in, amongst others, the fields of Disputes, Transactions and Corporate Recovery. Accuracy has 40 partners and 350 consultants across offices in ten countries in Europe, North America and Asia.

The London office of Accuracy was established in 2010 and now consists of 28 professional staff members. In the UK we focus on three main areas:

■ Forensics, Litigation and Arbitration (FLA): our projects typically involve the assessment of the financial loss incurred by the Claimant as a result of the breach or act of the Defendant. Our assessment includes modelling what the size of the Claimant’s market and the value of its business would have been, but for the Defendant’s act (breach of contract, fraud or expropriation). We work with lawyers and industrial experts to do this, and frequently act as independent experts assisting either courts or arbitration tribunals.

■ Transactions, Support and Advisory (TSA): we analyse the profitability of the target company, its market, and its growth outlook, helping our client draw up the best offer. We then work with the financial department and other consultants, including investment banks and lawyers to help close the transaction. We also advise on disposals and carve-outs, assisting in the preparation of financial fact books and vendor due diligence and managing the negotiation process.

■ Project Advisory and Disputes (PAD): we advise firms involved in construction and engineering projects on the challenges they face in both contentious and non-contentious situations. Our team brings together the skills and experience that enable us to address i) the control of costs, time and organisational issues inherent to these projects and ii) the assessment of delay, disruption and quantum of damages suffered when slippages of the time and costs to completion occur.

As an analyst in our financial team (FLA and TSA) you would be expected to support our experts by providing technical, analytical and reporting assistance to our team across a diverse portfolio of law firms, clients and industries. Your work will include research, review and analysis of documents, analysis of findings, records, and financial statements, modelling of past and future financial performance, and critical review of reports and calculations of other experts. You will also contribute to expert reports addressed to clients, Courts and Tribunals.

Accuracy is an ICAEW authorised training employer and able to sponsor analysts through the ACA qualification to become chartered accountants.

We look for candidates who are analytical, dynamic, courageous, and self-confident yet humble.

Energy Marketing & Trading is Centrica’s window to the global wholesale commodity market, executing procurement and risk management strategies for British Gas and hedging strategies for Centrica’s Power and Gas production businesses in the UK and Europe, as well as developing and executing its own trading strategies in response to market opportunities.

Energy Marketing & Trading has developed a robust and successful asset-backed trading business model and has ambitious plans to grow and diversify across commodities and geographies. The recent signing of our first US LNG export contract is a great example of step-out growth, providing us with the option to send cargoes all over the world.

Energy Marketing & Trading is a fast paced, entrepreneurial, innovative business which is heavily dependent on quality analytics to support commercial decision-making and risk management, either relating to the origination and structuring of commodity contracts with clients, or the development and execution of trading strategies. The Energy Marketing & Trading Analyst Programme is therefore central to Energy Marketing & Trading’s people development strategy.

The business is underpinned by its strong Trade Safe culture, which emphasises the importance of regulatory compliance, trading discipline, and personal wellbeing.

The Energy Marketing & Trading Analyst Programme could see you working within a diverse array of teams and functions across Energy Marketing & Trading in London or Aalborg. This could include working in Trading and Optimisation, LNG, Origination, Finance or Risk.

Relationship management is vital as you’ll be communicating with a variety of audiences including technical experts, senior management, as well as external parties. The ability to work with models, make and test hypotheses and turn data into useful information constitute critical skills throughout the business. Equally important is a very strong interest in the practical application of analytical techniques within business and the ability to communicate and work effectively with your colleagues.

You will be matched to your first placement by your Graduate Talent Board based on your educational background and assessment centre performance. Each eight-month placement will be a steep learning curve giving you a solid foundational knowledge of how the energy markets and our businesses operate. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside experienced analysts to learn how to go about approaching various challenges and business problems.

Each placement will be different with its own challenges so adapting to change is fundamental to success. You’ll need to develop a transferable skill set as you’ll be expected to deliver real results from the outset although you won’t be expected to do all this alone. Formal behavioural and technical training and a structured performance management process support your on-the-job learning. You’ll be afforded the support and encouragement you need to meet your individual goals because we want you to develop quickly, the rest is up to you.
