Old ResourceDialogue between Mrs. Vella and Mrs. Pace.

This resource was hand-written.

The text was unattractive for children.

Unclear and very unfriendly.

Modification

The old resource was changed from handwriting to a computer–typed text.

Layout was divided in the form of a dialogue, making it clearer as to who is talking and what is being said. The title was changed.

Pictures were added to enhance the text and make it more user friendly.

Modified TextThe dialogue is acted out in class by two children.

More active participation by the rest of the class, as now the text can be better related.

Tones of voice are different – therefore the text seems to come alive.

Some vocabulary has been altered to make the text less traditional.

The Meeting

It was Saturday morning when Mrs.Pace and Mrs.Vella met at Bella’s beauty shop.

Mrs.Vella: So are you our new neighbour? I’m Rita and I have two children, a boy and a girl. Tania is eight and Mark is seven. I’ve seen your two children yesterday and they look about the same age as my children. I hope they’ll be friends.

Mrs.Pace: I do hope so. My children do not have any friends yet. We used to live on a farm. They are looking forward to going to the new school here.

Mrs.Vella: I shall ask Tania and Mark to wait for your children to go to school together. The school is not far away so they can go on foot.

Mrs.Pace: Thanks, that’s very nice of you Mrs.Vella. My children will be delighted to meet your children and make friends with them.

Mrs.Vella: I’m sure they will. Have a good day!
