He made me mad.
The teacher failed me.
I hit him because he called me name.
I didn’t have a choice.
I was late because of the traffic.

Our AES MS Beliefs that influence our work with students
We believe it is essential to:
Create an emotionally and physically safe place to learn and teach;
Establish personal connections, nurture relationships and build community;
Remember that MS Years have academic, social and emotional importance;
focus needs to be on the “whole child”
Practice and encourage a growth mindset. Effort, taking risks and learning
from mistakes are opportunities to grow.

We believe that...
• we should always keep trying and give our best
effort.
• we should treat others the way that we want to be
treated.
• everyone should feel safe and comfortable.
• we can learn from our mistakes.
• we will grow when we challenge ourselves and
each other.

My Commitment to the AES Mission
As part of the AES Middle School Community:
• I will strive to build a peaceful and inclusive community at AES.
• I believe that every student, faculty member & staff has the
right to be treated with dignity and respect.
• I will work to ensure that my behavior and my actions do not
harass or make fun of anyone. I will work to not engage in
gossip, rumors or put downs.
• Although I know I am not perfect and I will make mistakes,
when I do make mistakes I will have the courage to take
responsibility and will do what I can to make amends.
• I will practice kindness and forgiveness and will assume
positive intentions.
• I will practice these behaviors in and out of school, in person
and online, in order to preserve the integrity of our school
community.

Reflective Questions (Ask, don’t tell):•What are you doing?•What’s your job now?•Is what you are doing helping or hurting the situation?•What do we believe about how we treat each other?•Do you believe that?•Are you being the kind of person/student/friend you want to be?•Is it ok to make a mistake? •Do you want to fix it? •How could you fix the mistake?•What would it say about you if you were able to fix
your mistake?•What could you do differently next time?
WHAT DOES RESTITUTION SOUND LIKE?
