Best Ball

A 5 Photo Story

One sunny day during lunch at The Adventure School for Odd

Animals, Patch the purple kangaroo and his best mate G-G

the red and green gecko were playing soccer with Mr

Monkey’s best ball. G-G and Patch had been at school for 5

years and they had been best of mates since they started

school together in Mr Funky-Fist’s class. They loved playing in

the playground because it was brand new. The playground

had to be rebuilt after a meteorite hit it just before the end

of their fourth year at school. It now had a huge as twirly

slide, a wild and wacky ladder for kids to climb, a purple

upside down swing, a spinning dragon seat and a Tree house

with its own waterfall. The rest of the playground was

covered in dark, shiny, soft, new grass that smelt like spring.

G-G and Patch had been playing soccer with each other for

about 20 minutes. They were having heaps of fun kicking Mr

Monkey’s new ball to each other when Patch asked G-G if he

wanted to have a high kicks competition. G-G thought that

this was a super-ific idea. G-G took the first kick and sent the

ball sailing high through the air. Next it was Patch’s turn. He

kicked the ball with all of his might and the two odd animals

watched it go up and up and up... then... down and down and

down until... BANG! CRASH! BASH! Mr Monkey’s best ball

had landed on top of the Library. Patch and G-G needed to

get it down quick. But how?

Patch had an idea. He would wait near the Library and G-G

would go and get their friend Spot who had brought a ladder

to school for Show and Tell. Five seconds later G-G came

racing around the corner with Spot and his handy ladder.

Spot quickly put his ladder against the library and started to

climb up to get the ball. He had to hurry and get the ball

before the school bell went for the end of lunch. G-G and

Patch didn’t want to make Mr Monkey upset OR cranky. Spot

was almost to the top of the ladder when... BRRRING! The

bell went for the end of lunch.

The bell gave Spot such a fright that he started to wobble

left, then wobble right, then he tumbled to the ground and

his trusty ladder followed after him and landed right on top.

Spot let out a “Yelp!” Patch and his worried friend G-G

panicked and called for “HELP!”

Patch and G-G were really worried about Spot because he

was making all kinds of yelping noises.

G-G Told Patch to go and get Mr Monkey from the Staffroom.

Patch ran like thunder and found Mr Monkey and told him

about Spot being trapped.

Not much later Mr Monkey quickly followed Patch to where Spot

was trapped and hurt. The first thing Mr Monkey did was lift the

ladder off Spot and check if he was alright. Spot said was pretty

good but had a really sore arm. Mr Monkey took a bandage from

his first aid kit and fixed Spot’s arm. Mr Monkey asked Patch and

G-G why spot had been up the ladder. They said he was trying to

get the ball down so Mr Monkey didn’t get upset about it being

lost on the Library roof. Mr Monkey reached up and searched

for the ball with his hand. Finally he found it and picked it up and

brought it down to the two worried boys. Mr Monkey and all of

the boys were very glad no one was badly hurt. The boys

promised that next time they would play in a better spot and ask

a grown up to help them get the ball down next time.
