Serious studies have been performed in Germany, in a region of intensive production, to determine the financial effect of the quality of silage on a dairy farm.

Researchers compared 2 types of silage: the first with 2% impurities and the second with 4%. After measuring the nutritionaleffect of the poorer quality silage, they determined the value of concentrate to add to reach the same production level.

The financial effect was found to be 82 €/ha/year!

The key to the system: KineticsThe LIFT-CONTROL device is much more than just a suspension system with a nitrogen accumulatorreplacing the traditional spring.The principal advantage of the LIFT-CONTROL system is derived from the exclusive way in whichkinetic forces that act on the cutterbar are utilized. KUHN engineers have succeeded in making a dynamic suspension system as opposed to the passive system commonly in use. With the LIFT-CONTROL system as the force exerted on the cutterbar increases the suspension system automatically lightens the cutterbar. The greater the force the lighter the cutterbar.The clear benefits are:• Constant ground pressure• Non-stop safety breakaway• Excellent terrain following• Less soil in the crops• Minimize torn up turf.

Adjust pressure easily and accuratelyThrough the accumulators, the ground pressure can also be adjusted according to harvesting conditions, with great precision and easily from the tractor seat. Therefore, on wet land, minimal pressure on the ground prevents the fodder from becoming clogged and soiled. Lateral force, wear on the shoes and tensile strength can also be strongly reduced.

To mow with a mind at ease = ACTIVE Non-Stop break away!No farmer can afford to damage his mower during the peak season because of a forgotten or unnoticed obstacle or a false manoeuvre. The mowing head will pivot up to 25 degrees to the rear.

At the same time the mowing head will lift to clear the obstructionand will then automatically reset

into the original mowing position. There is no need to stop and reverse to reset the mower.

PROTECTADRIVE Safety Every minute saved during the season is precious: in theevent of a very violent impact between a disc and an obstacle, the shaft holding the disc can shear just above thebearing, thanks to a carefully dimensioned shear groove.The precious toothed wheels are protected.

The saving is enormous: in less than 15 minutesthe mower is operational once more at a verylow repair cost!

Long-term durability

All gearwheels, made of forged steel, are large diameter:this characteristic ensures maximum strength which is parti-cularly important in the event of impact on the discs.

Great wear resistance

The front part of the disc, where the blades are mounted, isthe area most actively involved in evacuating the forageand which may consequently be exposed to wear.KUHN has incorporated a massive forged steel part forwork under abrasive conditions, to ensure the longest lifepossible.

Symmetrical casings

The end casings are made from two U-shaped plates, sothat the mounting screws are located close to the neutralfibre.Consequently, there is no particular stress on the mountingscrews and tightness, unlike designs with one U-shapedcasing and a flat top plate.

High-capacity guidance

The disc bearings contain bearings with two rows ofoblique contact ball-bearings: high-end components for thecore of the cutter bars.

blade retainer.• The blade retaining pins are also equipped with a

shoulder to provide an additional level of securement.

• The leaf spring can only be depressed to remove theblade at one point when the blade is centered over theshoe. Thus when the disc is rotating it is not possible forthe blade to be released.

To minimize costs the blade retention pin can be replacedseparately from the leaf spring.The profile of the disc is not compromised by the Fast-Fitsystem. Detrimental effects on cutting quality are minimized.

Extra-strong covers

Because user safety is a paramount issue for KUHN, the protective covers resistperforation or tearing to a distinctly higher degree than what is required bygovernment safety standards or what is supplied by other manufacturers. This also contributes to the high resale value which is a globally-recognised advantagefor KUHN mowers.

No obstacle to road safety:- a signalling panel is incorporated directly in the protective cover- the tail light is protected by a steel enclosure.

A suspension system's performance is compromized ifthe weight distribution across the ground is not uniform. With the LIFT-CONTROL range the mowing head is suspended at the centre of gravity point to ensureeven weight distribution and a high quality cut acrossthe entire width.

The mowing unit pivot angle enables obtaining a clean cut in all conditions, including with a large working width.

Control with confidence

Control of the mowing head is easy and precise. The hydraulicrequirements have been minimized to reduce reaction times anda single hydraulic valve is all that is required to raise and lowerthe mowing head. The minimum lift clearance of 40 cm (16")easily clears obstructions and previously cut crop.

On a mounted machine, any extra weightaccumulates in the mowing unit, requiringa bigger weight-bearing structure and inthe end a heavier tractor using more fuel.This is the main reason why KUHN usesnylon finger conditioners on its machines.These are not only lighter but also veryeffective for fast drying!

The fingers that work the crop are V-shaped and made of a highly resilient material which stays supple on a transversal level.1. Should a foreign body pass through the conditioner, the fingers canbend out of the way and then regain their original position withoutbeing damaged.2. The fingers are rigid in the rotational direction of the rotor, whichenables a fluffy and regular swath to be obtained.This reduces drying times thanks to improved air circulation.

Two roller drive
