Striving for great thingsPage 1 Moura Minor 4 th April, 2019 In this edition: Bronze Certificates Dear Students, Parents/Caregivers and Friends, Week 10 and the first term of the 2019 school year has flashed by! It has been a successful term overall with many highlights. Senior students had their induction ceremony. Year 3-6 students have enjoyed a swimming carnival. The Student Council and P&C have coordinated successful fundraising events. All students had the chance to participate in our annual cross country event. A number of Year 3-6 students have been preparing for the poetry recitation section of the Biloela Eisteddfod while some Year 5 and 6 students are completing robotics activities at lunch times with Mrs Harsant. A number of students have enjoyed sporting successes. The instrumental music program is up and running (blowing) with a large number of participants. The narrative writing samples collected last week from Year 3-6 students demonstrated some tremendous teaching and learning across all year levels. The reports about improvements in reading levels/scores and sight word recognition is rewarding too. As principal I am extra proud of the commitment to the teaching and learning process that has been demonstrated by our staff. Our teachers have put in lots of extra hours in working with colleagues and lead staff to plan, teach and assess/monitor curriculum that meets the needs of students. Thank you to everyone for your tremendous efforts this term. Thank you to our volunteers too, as your commitment to helping our students with their learning has made a difference. We look forward to your support in the new term. What will Term 2 bring apart from the annual inter- house and Dawson Valley athletics carnivals, Under 8’s Day, report cards, Year 3 and 5 NAPLAN testing, Biloela Show Holiday, Biloela Eisteddfod, ANZAC Day? There are 3 short weeks along with visits from Mrs Reiko Clissold, parent-teacher interviews, Year 5 camp, professional learning, P&C fundraising and so on. Term 2 will also see us welcoming Miss Montana Jessat as a USC Preservice Teacher who will be completing her final Supervised Professional Experience (SPE) placement. Montana will be working with Miss Utick and her Year 2/3 troops, and is very excited about her time with us. Enjoy the two week break in preparation for the new term. If you are travelling, do so safely.

Dear Students, Parents/Caregivers and Friends, Week 10 and the first term of the 2019 school year has flashed by! It has been a successful term overall with many highlights. A number of students have enjoyed sporting successes. The instrumental music program is up and running (blowing) with a large number of participants. The narrative writing samples collected last week from Year 3-6 students demonstrated some tremendous teaching and learning across all year levels. The reports about

improvements in reading levels/scores and sight word recognition is rewarding too.

What will Term 2 bring apart from the annual inter-house and Dawson Valley athletics carnivals, Under 8’s Day, report cards, Year 3 and 5 NAPLAN testing, Biloela Show Holiday, Biloela Eisteddfod, ANZAC Day? There are 3 short weeks along with visits from Mrs Reiko Clissold, parent-teacher interviews, Year 5 camp, professional learning, P&C fundraising and so on.

PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS In the second week of next term (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 29 April-02 May after school), parents/caregivers have the opportunity to meet with teachers about student progress for Term 1. A separate note about this has been sent home. I strongly encourage you to make an interview time by the end of this week as you do not want to get to the Semester One report card to find out your child’s progress in their learning.

A big thank you to parents and teachers who have already taken the opportunity to meet or chat with each other about student learning. These have made a difference with the students’ progress.

ANZAC DAY Moura SS will be hosting an ANZAC service on Wednesday 24 April at 9:00 am on the front lawn of the school. The special guests have replied, the wreaths are being made, chair set up organised and so on. Students will need to be wearing their blue school uniform and have their broad brimmed hat.

Students have also been invited to participate in the Moura community ANZAC Day march and service on Thursday 25 April. The march commences at 10:00 am from near the Puma Service Station and is followed by the service outside the RSL. Any students wishing to participate need to return the activity consent form that was distributed to all students last week.

Students who are marching in the town parade on Wednesday need to meet in the Puma Service Station area at 9:30am dressed in blue school uniform and

wearing a broad brimmed school hat. Students are to be collected after the service outside the RSL Club.

Only students with permission notes will be allowed to participate in the parade.

Many thanks to Mrs Kathy Finlay, Miss Samantha Utick and Miss Amanda Clarke for organising these events for our school.

RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR PLAN FOR STUDENTS Bronze Certificates: 84% of our Prep to Year 6 students received their Bronze Certificates this week. Great job by all for following the Four Bees consistently over at least 8 weeks of the term. Remember that students can continue to work towards achieving their bronze certificate over the coming weeks.

WINTER UNIFORM As we head into the cooler weather during Term 2 it is timely to remind everyone about our winter uniform requirements. The table below is copied directly from the Moura SS Prospectus 2019. ** Jeans are not part of the school uniform and are not to be worn to school. No strings on hats because it is a safety issue.
