What is a Mountain Pass?
• A mountain pass is a gap between two mountains.
• Passes may be very short with steep slopes at the top, or valleys of many miles.
• Mountain pass is also known as a gap, notch, and a saddle.
Where is a Mountain Pass?
• A mountain pass is found near a source of a river.
Mountain Passes around the World
• Great St. Bernard Pass at 2,473 meters (8,114 ft) in the Alps.
• Khyber Pass at 1,027 meters (3,369 ft) between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
• Khardung La at 5,359 meters (17,582 ft) in Jammu and Kashmir, India.
