HERITAGE WALKS THROUGH

MOUNT BARKER PERAMANGK ABORIGINAL NATION

You are walking in the footsteps of the Peramangk people who were the original custodians of the Adelaide Hi lls Region. They were generally a peacefu l people, but by 1884 through introduced diseases and relocation, very few rema ined.

The Mount Barker Summit is recognised as one of the most significant Aboriginal sites in the state. Recently, Peramangk descendants have reclaimed their identity and sense of place in the Centra l Mount Lofty Ranges and we move forward in a spirit of reconciliation, recognition and respect that is due to their culture.
