Moving the motif to different parts of the scale, keeping the melodic shape the same 2/Change notes. Changing one or more notes changes the shape of the melody 3/Invert melody. Keeping the rhythm the same, reverse the notes 4/Retrograde. Play the melody backwards 5/Extend melody. Add notes to the melody 6/Remove notes. 7/Change rhythm. lengthen/shorten note values 8/Rhythmic displacement. Start the melody on a different part of the bar
