The Ohio University Wind Symphony is the premier wind band in the School of Music. The ensemble’s membership is selected from among the finest wind and percussion performers in the university. With approximately six campus concerts per year, the Wind Symphony has performed for conferences of the College Band Directors National Association, Ohio Music Education Association, the Society of Composers, Inc., the World Projects Band and Orchestra Festival at the Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts, the Women in Music Conference, and on the Southern Ohio Performing Arts Association subscription concert series. Members of the ensemble have enjoyed opportunities to collaborate with world-renowned composers, soloists, conductors, and recording engineers. In an effort to support the creation of new works for wind band, the group frequently sponsors or participates in commissioning projects. Founded in 1923, the Ohio University Bands continue a tradition of
excellence with four concert bands and two athletic bands, including the Marching 110, “The Most Exciting Band in the Land.”
