President’s Report

Hi Fellow Morris owners, The meeting and morning tea at Sandgate was called off due to the rain. We had nothing in Cambooya when I left home, but by the time I got to the Northside of Brisbane it was very heavy. Apologies to all those that either partially made it or actually got to Sandgate and then couldn’t find anyone. Let’s make the Gympie weekend even better and make up for the June washout. We will hold our AGM on Sunday morning the 16th and please don’t let this frighten you away. A club is only as good as the members are prepared to make it. We have had the usual members providing the backbone and now we need the rest of you to start attending and pitch in. A big thank you to the existing committee and hopefully we will get some more volunteers. Next year is going to be huge with the 21st National Rally and our 40th year as an Organisation. What ideas would you like to see happen as part of our 40th year? All ideas will be given due consideration. Either send them to me or one of the other committee members.

On a personal note, does anyone have a spare pitman arm for a 1933 MG J2? I was stupidly racing around the house (much to Jacqui’s dismay) when I lost control and ran into the sandstone blocks bending all the steering. Looks like I do have to build that race track in the paddock after all! Anyway, I hope to see you in Gympie

Regards, Colin Schiller

MEMBER REQUEST from BARRY GILBERT: My Morris is not getting the amount of exercise it deserves and I have recently been restricted to a driving distance of only 20k from my home at Curramundi. I wonder if you know of any club member with MM 8 knowledge who might be interested in driving my car, with me as passenger, when the club has a run to Caloundra in the near future. The car runs well and apart from the poor brakes goes well for its 87 years is better than I am. Garry Schulte might remember my car!

You can store (but not display) collectables and personal use assets in premises owned by a related party, provided it is not their private residence. They can't be displayed because this means they are being used by the related party. Remember to keep a record of the reasons for deciding where to store the assets.

AHMF excerpt taken from the QHMC Bi-Monthly General Meeting dated 23rd Mar 2017 Luxury Car Tax – AHMF is working toward the removal of luxury tax from vehicles over 30 years old. President Christine Stevens asked Doug Young (VCCQ) to speak on Luxury Tax..… …Doug advised LCT starts to affect purchasers of vehicles from approx. $54,000 as it is based on the purchase price + freight + customs + GST and, with a purchase price of approx. $54,000 this totals to approx. $64,000. He reported LCT acts as a "one-way valve" to historic vehicles in Australia. They are exported but the cost is excessive to import them. Doug Young (VCCQ) wrote an article in the VCCQ newsletter. (Article is attached in the Annexure to these minutes.) The Museums lobby has achieved the removal of luxury tax for vehicles being imported into museums. As at 28/1/2017 they are GST exempt and LCT free. John Greene (Mustang) advised, when vehicles are brought in for museum display, if they are later sold, the purchaser has to pay the luxury tax, GST and import costs. Buyers can be caught unaware by these additional expenses.

Title: ‘Out and About’ {Picture: Austin 7s at Toowoomba} Hi everyone, long time no see. We hope you have been out and about in your Morris. We have been out in ours at least once a month with the three car clubs that we belong to. On the 28th January we went to the Allora Heritage Weekend at the showgrounds. This is a well organised event with lots to see with hundreds of vintage trucks, tractors, stationary engines and old cars and bikes. The weather was rather hot and muggy but that didn’t stop the huge crowd in attendance. The main event for the day was the grand parade around the centre ring, with this year’s theme being ‘Australian built’ vehicles taking

centre stage. Including this event , there was a tractor pull for those interested and a large swap meeting. If you haven’t been, we can highly recommend you to go. {Picture: This Morris 8 was seen out and about at the Austin 7 National Rally in Toowoomba recently. The owners have been in the Morris Register since it started and owned this car since the early 70s}

On the 12 February we joined the Downs Morris Group for an outing to Hampton, 30 klms north of Toowoomba for Morning tea. It was a nice drive, a nice setting, good company but with the temperature nudging 40 C, made it uncomfortable. Unfortunately the cafe wasn’t’ air conditioned. But all in all it was good excuse to get out in our Morris, with like-minded people. On the 12th March, we attended the Clifton Air Show at Banges Farm, 5 klms west of town. Lots of different types of planes to see on the ground and

taking off and landing. There was a small swap meeting and food and drinks were available. The weather was perfect for the fly in, I heard later that they had a thunder storm that night which drenched the grounds. Lucky they had their

tents and marques down by the time the rain came. {Picture: These three cars are all Austin's, the first is a Maxi, the next is a 3 litre, and the green one

is a Kimberley}. On the 9th April, we went to see the display of 110 Austin 7's at the Cobb and Co Museum here in Toowoomba. They have their Nationals every 5 years in different states around Australia. On the 4th April we attended the Austins Over Australia National Rally at Ipswich over the Easter Weekend. Friday was a registration day and Meet and Greet and official opening at the Race course at 6pm. Saturday was a drive out to the Kalbar showgrounds for morning tea, then on to Boonah for lunch. We all parked in the school grounds and we able to walk to town for a bite to

eat after which was drove onto Moogerah Dam and then back to Ipswich. We went on a few roads that we hadn’t been on before. The scenery was just beautiful and the area was lovely and green after recent rains. Dinner that night was at the Rosewood Showgrounds hall. This was about a 20 minute drive from Ipswich. Sunday was a static car display at the Racecourse. Of particular interest to us were the other 6 Austin 1800's that were all together. It was interesting to compare our imported Morris against the Australian built Austins. There were about 120 Austins on display. To help pass the time, the Heritage Railway Society were running Steam train rides to the Swanbank Power Station all day. It was lovely to finally have the opportunity to go there. On Sunday we drove west to Marburg then under the Warrego Highway to the Lowood Showgrounds for our morning tea stop . Afterwards we were off to

Atkinson Dam for a look see, then on to Plainlands, over the Highway to the Laidley Showgrounds for our lunch stop. A farewell dinner was held at the Rosewood showground hall at 6pm. We were glad to have had the opportunity to attend this event being so close to home. Austins over Australia National Rallys visit every state in Australia every 2 years including Western Australia and Tasmania. They are getting away from Easter next time and going to the Barossa Valley in South Australia at the end of September 2019.

{Picture A group of Morris outside the Mary Poppins House in Allora recently}

On the 29th of April, we drove out to Allora for their Autumn Festival, it being advertised as an event for our club. Allora School were celebrating their 150th Anniversary with events such as; school tours , a Vintage car and penny farthing display, digging up their time capsule and a Camp oven lunch. We were given an information booklet that showed what was on in town and when. They had a Dinner under the stars in Drayton Street on Friday night, five open gardens for you to see, stalls set on the footpath on both sides of the main street, buggy rides around town, arts and craft and photographic display, Guided historical walks along Main St, a visit to Mary Poppins house

and a vintage car museum among other events. For a small town of a few thousand people, they put on a good interesting weekend. We met up with Graham and Coralyn at the school and Alan and Sandra walking around town. We look forward to going back there for their next festival. On the 7th May, we went to the Lockyer Swap at the Laidley Showgrounds. There were about 50 to 60 stalls to see, a good food hall to keep us full and lots of vintage/classic cars on display. On the 11th June, we went out to Allora with the Downs Morris Group to see the Mary Poppins House in Herbert Street. A beautiful restored house built in 1897 as a Bank Premises and Managers Residence. The manager from 1905 to 1907 was Travers Robert Goff. His daughter Helen Lyndon Goff ( under the name of P.J.Travers) was the author of the book ‘Mary Poppins'. Her story of Mary Poppins was based on her early childhood experiences in this house. Well worth a visit sometime maybe if the Morris register is in the area sometime. Entry fee was $5 plus a delicious morning tea for an additional $7.50. Just over the road is a Regional Sports Museum featuring all the 'great hall of fame legends'. The displays are well set up in display cabinets in various rooms throughout this building. Entry fee is a gold coin donation. The weather was light showers on and off most of the day but it didn’t worry us. After our visit to these places, we walked down the road to a lovely cafe for a light lunch before heading for home. That’s all we have at the moment, we hope to see you all on our next event at Gympie on the 15th &16th July. It looks like Mick and Lyn have a lovely weekend planned for us to enjoy. C U There. If u have been out in your Morris lately, write and tell us where you’ve been, we would love to hear from you. Jim ‘n Tricia.

21st National Morris Registers of Australia

Hello All. Keith has only allotted a tiny space for my event catch-up this time.. The next Fraser Flyer will be in late August and that’s when it starts to get interesting. Included will be a list of attendees and vehicles to date with a yearly model breakdown. Separate to the newsletter will be a food and regalia order form plus a questionnaire for entrants to complete. These forms are to be returned by 15th November 2017. Development in

Hervey Bay is moving rapidly and in some cases effecting my program, but ironically these ‘hitches’ are working out for the better. Good News: The event has a Rally Patron, Mick Kruger OAM, a well-known local identity, and more than happy to give your Club his every assistance. Further details in the Fraser Flyer.
