Students in our world today crave the opportunity to feel important, needed, and useful. They want purpose. They want to feel like they are contributing. Mission trips give students a chance to “give back” through acts of service, but they are so much more than just labor intensive work weeks. A mission trip pushes students out of their comfort zones, removes them from the distractions of their ordinary lives, and causes them to have moments of spiritual reflection that they wouldn’t get on their own. It creates an environment for group bonding and spiritual growth and development. The opportunities that students in our church will have this month to go on one of our two mission trips will create incomparable teachable moments that will follow them for years. As a church you have invested in these moments through your financial and prayer support. But the mission doesn’t end when they return from these weeks of service. The real work starts when they get home. The goal of the Christ follower is to offer our God the sacrifice of our lives to serve Him with every breath we make. The hard part is accomplishing that in the midst of life and the normalcy that we are accustomed to. It is my prayer this summer that the youth ministry will embark on a journey that won’t end the moment they return home from a mission trip but rather a journey that will just begin. It is my prayer that this journey will move us to action in our homes and communities to serve God and to continue the spiritual growth that is started through the catalyst of a mission trip. It is my prayer that we would seek to be “on mission” all year long and will strive towards deeper understanding of what that actually means. As our young people participate in missions during this month please be in prayer for these things as well. We have an awesome task in front of us. The task of missions. Katie

Chaos with Katie

I love youth ministry! Which is good since Morris Chapel church

that I love, mission trips are by far my favorite events. Students in our

Congratulations Harper Grace Pegram was born on July 25, 2013. She weighed 6

pounds and 9 ounces. Proud parents are Brandon & Stacy Pegram,

Grandparents are Steve & Debby Pegram, Aunt is Gretchen

Pegram and Great-grandparents are Joe & Mary Ann Angel.

Dear Morris Chapel Friends,

Our District Superintendent, Bill Medlin, shared with me recently that you had given a

financial gift toward a hearing instrument that he was assisting me in acquiring. The

“hearing aid” that I had was 13 years old and not very effective. I should receive the new

one within the next two weeks and I look forward to it opening up a while new world of

hearing for me. It is partially due to your gracious gift that I am able to be so blessed.

Thank you! However, a simple “Thank you” seems so inadequate, but please know that I am

deeply grateful to your church for sharing with me.

Grace and Peace,

Bill Baird (Germanton/Bethel Charge)
