FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Friends, The words of today’s reading from Deuteronomy form the prayer recited several times daily by devout Jewish believers. Therefore, Jesus Himself knew these words well and recited them often. In the Gospel, Jesus declares them to be the first commandment. Jesus then offers another commandment, so that love of God and love of neighbor become the rule of life for his disciples in every generation. As we approach Election Day, I ask all our parishioners to remember as I will that God alone is first and his commandments are great indeed. As a Disciple of Christ, I will ask myself what Jesus commands and hopefully my actions will identify me with what I profess within the Community of the Church. I pray that the Holy Spirit illumine our hearts and minds in the mystery of His great Love for us. Our Holy Year theme for the month of November is the Communion of Saints and prayers for the increase of priestly vocations from our parish for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. At our daily Mass we will pay special attention to the optional memorials of the saints, also, we will, as many times as possible celebrate the Mass for the Dead. We will remember at all our Masses the Departed written on your Commemoration envelopes throughout November. Also, on November 20, 2012, at 7:00 PM, we will begin a Holy Hour with Night Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood. Please remember in a special way, Daniel Arechabala, our seminarian, for perseverance, purity of heart and holiness. On Monday, November 5 at 7:00pm, we will be holding a Holy Hour for Religious Freedom with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Night Prayer. The Archbishop will be offering Mass in the Cathedral and we will join our prayers to his, to make this night a moment of prayer and remembrance. This week is a momentous one for us as Catholics as there are issues of great importance being decided. May the Holy Spirit illumine our hearts and minds as a Church united in faith and may the Mother of Divine Providence ever point us to the Way, the Truth and the Life! Amen.

With God’s peace, Father Cioppi

IN OUR PARISH

FATHER CHUCK’S CHALLENGE Dear Father Cioppi, On behalf of some of the poorest on earth, I am privileged to thank you and your generous parishioners for your extraordinary response to our recent appeal to benefit our poor in the mountains of Nicaragua. Every prayer and every dollar offered is very much appreciated by the Nicaraguans and by us, associated with Father Chuck’s Challenge. Your financial contributions have exceeded $10,300 (through the Church Collection and by mail). That amount will be doubled by a group associated with Food for the Poor. It will be applied to change the lives of many new homeless families! God who will not be outdone in generosity, you and your people have made sacrifices in His name. He will bless you now and forever – for indeed, Jesus said, “Whatever you do for the least of My brothers, you do for Me.” Prayerfully, and with great affection, Monsignor Francis X. Schmidt

th with a solemn celebration at the 5:15

P.M. Mass on Saturday evening. Please join us in the Year of Faith to deepen our devotion to Our Lady under the title of Mother of Divine Providence.

WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN THIS WEEK?

The experience of our Mass with the Anointing of the Sick lingers in my mind. The beauty of it speaks volumes about our life together in faith. As I watched the people arrive there were those who could come on their own and those who needed assistance. Many married couples came. Couples who were married for 50, 60 years. They were assisting their spouse with a walker or in a wheelchair. All I could think of was -- that is what faithfulness looks like. Faithful love and service when one spouse is not able to care for him/herself. The struggle to experience independent living so that the couple can stay together. That is what faithfulness in marriage looks like. That is the “for better or worse, in sickness and in health”. I was not able to talk with each couple, so now I say to them – thank you for this wonderful lesson. Thank you for showing us what love looks like. Let us pray in gratitude for these wonderful people. What have you seen this week?

12th ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR AND BAZAAR Holiday Gazette

All parishioners and friends of MDP are invited to participate in the upcoming Christmas Craft Fair & Bazaar, to be held on Saturday, November 17th, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the school. Plans for the bazaar have been underway for the past six months to provide something for everyone. Over 120 spots have been sold to crafters who will offer an exciting array of items to those getting a head start on their Christmas shopping. There are many new crafters attending this year, as well as those returning from previous bazaars. Ready and waiting for early bird shoppers, booths staffed by our own parishioners will also be available that day. Included in our special parish booths will be the Tombola Booth and the Books, Movies and Music Booth. The Tombola Booth will feature baskets filled with themed items, while the latter will offer gently used books, CDs and DVDs for your very own home entertainment pleasure. Stop by and pick up some family friendly films or CDs for a enjoyable evening at home.

For both children and adults, Santa will make a special visit from the North Pole. Bring your camera and take a picture if you’d like, and as an added bonus, a very special

elf will be passing out candy canes to all good boys and girls. You can see Santa between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. You may also look forward to the return of the Children’s Game Booth providing entertainment for all kids. The One of a Kind Booth will return to the line-up. It will feature an assortment of hand-made items made and donated by our own parishioners. So many of our talented parishioners have offered their time to help stock this booth, we are most grateful.

Don’t forget about those Chance Books that were sent out recently to all parishioners. The chances list prizes ranging from $50.00 to $500.00. The drawing will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday. Have you sent yours back yet? They may also be dropped off at the Chance Booth at the bazaar. Our Café will again provide us with breakfast,

lunch and snacks. Volunteers have been working overtime to provide attendees a large variety from which to choose. For breakfast, you can choose from donuts or bagels to go with your coffee, tea or juice. In addition to meatball sandwiches, tomato pie, chili, hot dogs and pork sandwiches at lunch time, the Café will sell pasta salad, tossed salads, pierogies and other tasty fare. This year we’re asking for your support. If you

are able to donate a needed food item, please log on to www.perfectpotluck.com to sign up. A list and all other related information is

provided on the site. The coordinator’s last name is Obrien and the password is MDP (both are case sensitive). The ever popular Baked Goods Booth will feature a variety of baked goods that our generous parishioners donate. Please consider donating your specialty. Your help is integral to the success of this booth. Look for all new parish booth signs this year. They are red with white lettering and poinsettia graphics on them. Hopefully this will better help you identify our parish run booths. As in the past, all proceeds from this event will benefit our entire parish. If you are interested in helping set up, clean up or volunteer at a booth, or if you have any other questions, please contact Donna at 610-337-3814 or [email protected]. Your help is vital to the success of this event.
