QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT CCCWhat exactly is CCC?

CCC stands for Colour, Coffee and Chat. It's our

Weekend recovery session held each Monday

morning from 10am.

Who is CCC for?

CCC is open to all local community members but in

particular for people who need to de-stress such as

carers and stay at home parents.

What happens at CCC?

CCC gives locals a chance to create and play with

others on a weekly basis. Great coffee/tea and a

chance to chat with others while colouring or working

on your own handicrafts. We have a large selection

of books, pencils and markers you can use, or you

can bring your own art or craft project along.

How much is CCC?

CCC is free of charge.

Do I need to book?

No. Just turn up on Monday Morning.

This is a piece by Nita Scott who believed she was not creative and started colouring as therapy for PTSD. She is

now a creative artist in her own right.

Those of you who have been keeping up with our facebook feed have noticed that RobC and RobR have been insanely busy landscaping. The side bed is now looking lush and flowering already! Most of the main pathways are in place and the outside art space has been split into 4 informal areas; the wet area (pebbled for drainage), the lawn area (now prepared for the turf which is arriving next Thursday), the paved entrance and outdoor seating areas. This will give us lovely cool spaces to create, play or just laze in.

GREEN SPACE

The centrepiece of the outdoor area is a large triangular pyeong sang (a Korean style outdoor table/bench). This is well underway and while the work is exhausting, the guys are thrilled with the environment they are creating. A second seating/sprawling area is planned under the shade of our giant tree. These will be wonderful areas to sit and draw or just chill out with a coffee.

We still have space available for local Artists and Crafters who would like a table to display and sell their OWN arts and crafts at the MOORAC

Open Day on 21st January 2017. Setup from 7am and pack down between 4 - 6pm. Ring Beth on 0419 013218 if you are interested.

There’s such a huge wealth of creative talent and ability in Moorooka and even more yet to be uncovered. We want to embark on a journey with our community as our studio transforms into a shared art space. So…what exactly is MOORAC? WeIl obviously we’re an Art Centre but how is it run and what does it offer? 1. Moorac is a privately run arts space in the Crothers family home. It comprises the bottom floor of a wonderful 90 year old Queenslander which has been developed as a studio for artists. 2. Moorac has been set up by the Crothers family guided by the motto “Be the change you want to see.” It has been entirely financed by the family and supported by committed local artist Robert Ross. 3. Moorac believes art is about enriching the lives of individuals and should be accessible to everyone in the community. We have therefore set limits on the hourly tuition fees for

courses at the centre. The current maximum is $15 per hour plus materials. 4. Moorac believes artists should be able to create a fair living off their works and experience, therefore we keep the artists’ fixed contribution to the Centre at $10/hour for classes which covers running costs, insurance etc. There is no fee taken by the Centre for activities which are provided to the community free of charge. Creative studio time is also free for resident artists. 5. Resident artists are experienced self-employed locals. Those wishing to join the residency are first vetted by the current team. All artists working with people under 18 are Blue Card holders. 6. Courses offered through MOORAC are run in 5 week blocks with advanced courses offered after beginners prerequisites are completed or the required competency shown. The range of workshops and courses are changed throughout the year.

7. MOORAC is currently offering drawing, general arts and crafts, woodcarving, jewellery and warm glass courses. In addition to advanced options for these, we will be offering ceramics, leatherworking, print and mosaic courses later in the year. If you have any further questions or would like to

know more, please email Beth at [email protected]
