2017 Moonlight & Mistletoe
On behalf of The King’s Daughters, we are thrilled that you are here in support of CHKD and ready to celebrate with us our fifth annual Moonlight & Mistletoe! It has been an honor to work with the passionate and tireless committee of volunteers and dedicated King’s Daughters’ staff to bring you this special evening. This event would not be possible without the commitment and generosity of each of you. Thank you!
Funds raised from this evening support Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters’ Behavioral Health program. We are privileged to be able to support CHKD, with its constant growth and innovations in all fields that relate to children, and Behavioral Health is a most critical piece to the overall health of our children. Many of us have experienced and know all too well the need for support of this wonderful program for families in our community. We cannot start too early to be aware of the connection and to help CHKD stay ahead of the curve to protect our youth. Your support tonight is vital.
Moonlight & Mistletoe would not be possible without the support of the many businesses, friends and colleagues who so generously and enthusiastically sponsored this evening. We welcome our first-time guests as we all plan to have a great time supporting our precious asset. We have many exciting Silent and Live Auction items, which have been donated by organizations and individuals through the community and beyond. So, we hope you BID OFTEN and BID HIGH! Together we’ll make this 2017 Moonlight & Mistletoe a great success for OUR hospital!
We are blessed and fortunate to have chaired this our Fifth Annual Moonlight & Mistletoe and thank you and give thanks for CHKD!
Sincerely,
1
THE DR. DONALD W. LEWIS AWARD
In 2013, The King’s Daughters established an award to honor Dr. Donald Lewis, a beloved CHKD pediatric neurologist, educator, researcher and outspoken advocate for children’s health, who unexpectedly passed away in 2012. The purpose of this award is to recognize someone who possesses that same sense of optimism and enthusiasm as Dr. Lewis; who inspires others and is willing to take whatever action necessary to better the lives of children.
The 2017 Dr. Donald W. Lewis Awardwill be presented to:
HOSPITAL

Through her services at CHKD, Ruth has mentored well over 1,000 physicians and countless staff members. She serves on numerous professional committees and in 1993 received the highest recognition possible from the National Association Medical Staff Services. MEDICAL
Dr. Reuben Rohn | Endocrinologist, CHKDReuben Rohn, MD came to CHKD in June 1976 to oversee the new Adolescent Medicine program as well as to foster the growth of the Pediatric Endocrinology program. He was a key player in the development and design of the “new” Adolescent Inpatient Unit. Through his efforts, an Adolescent Advisory Committee was established which included community practitioners and the adolescent outpatient clinics were expanded, including the establishment of the Adolescent Gynecology Clinic. Under his leadership, the Pediatric Endocrinology program was expanded to include a separate Diabetes Clinic and with the recruitment of Dr. Marta Satin Smith, the program has grown into a full Diabetes Center. Additionally, Dr. Rohn has taught CHKD pediatric residents for 41 years and has served on numerous CHKD staff committees. His research in the arena of puberty has led to national recognition. Over the years, Dr. Rohn has also become an expert in transgender care, providing invaluable care to these children. It is our pleasure to honor Dr. Rohn for his passion and dedication in helping grow CHKD and serve the children, adolescents and families of this community.

CHKD’S BEHAVIORAL/MENTAL HEALTH
PROGRAM
For over 120 years, The King’s Daughters have led the way when it comes to pediatric care in our community by recognizing and responding to the health needs of our community’s children. When we learned that:
• 1 in 5 children lives with a diagnosable mental illness
• Suicide is the: - 3rd leading cause for children 10-14 years
of age - 2nd leading cause of death for children
15-24 years of age
The members of The King’s Daughters decided to act, pledging $1 million to help expand and strengthen CHKD’s behavioral health program. All funds raised from tonight’s event will go toward meeting this goal.
