2018 Moolah® Shrine PotentateKyle McEvoy

Nobles,

Well, the time has arrived to bring 2018 to a close. Kerry and I have had a wonderful time throughout our Divan journey. We have been fortunate to have had a great year and it truly is because of all of you.

As I reflect on the past 9 years, I can say there have been moments that have molded me as a person. I realize more than ever now just how special this fraternity and philanthropy are. There have been many special moments I have encountered on this journey that are unforgettable. I cannot say enough about the great Shriners we knew before and the Shriners we met along the way, these people have made this a wild ride, particularly this past year.

We hope 2018 was a great Shrine year for you, as we did our best to plan many events giving you plenty of opportunity to have fun. It was a ton of work, but we think it paid off and we thank you for supporting them. We were impressed by the attendance at every event and we hope it gave everyone an opportunity to meet new wonderful people within Moolah and other temples.

By the time you get this the ball will be over and election night will be right around the corner. We are prepared to hand off the leadership to the advancing line, as I am sure Don will get elected and have a great year. In all honesty, I will not be able to walk away, after being a member for 24 years and growing up as a son of a Shriner. Now with a son who is eager to get involved the Shrine has become a way of life for me. In addition to supporting Don and Diane to continue our successes as an organization, Kerry and I are look forward to watching our son enjoy this organization as much as we have. Who knows, maybe our other boys will also make the Shrine a part of their lives.

There is no way I can recap the year in this article. We are truly blessed to have been given this opportunity to serve you, the members and families of Moolah. There were so many accomplishments and unforgettable experiences. We had a record break-ing circus at the Family Arena and it appears we will outperform our budget by a significant margin adding a very nice surplus. As for membership, it looks like we might just end the year positive for the first time in a long time without carry over non paid dues members. This is huge as it has only happened a few times since 1978!

Please review the 2018 list of unpaid dues inside, if you know anyone please call them, ask them to continue their membership, and invite them to an event to have a good time. Time is running out for them, let’s not lose them.

I cannot end this article without thanking those that worked above and beyond to make this year a success. First, we want to thank all the committees, Nobles and their families that supported the circus, the Sportsman’s Raffle, and the First Lady’s fund raiser. Next, we want to thank the widows. We must not forget these fine ladies and their wonderful husbands. They supported us throughout 2018 and we appreciate all of them. We want to thank all the units that helped us with financial donations, cooking, event participation, and the hard work at making them a success. We want to thank the Shrine Clubs for their gracious hospitality during installation season and the last 3 months, as I attempted to visit as many Shrine Clubs as I could. The Shrine Clubs are amaz-ing groups and I would tell all of our Nobles to consider visiting them. We want to thank the aides who contributed throughout the year including our newest addition of the First Lady’s Aides. We want to thank the Divan and the Past Potentates for their support. They were always there for us willing to help out. We want to thank my parents, my brothers, and their families. We are a tight group and they supported us all year. I love you guys. There was one unbelievable group of people that was there for us the most, the Viners, the Benningtons, and the Meltons. These six people did so much this year, for not only us, but for all of you. I cannot say enough about this team and what they did to support all of Moolah. Above all, I have to thank Kerry. She was such a trooper these last 9 years. I cannot thank her enough for being there for me every step of the way. I love you so much, Kerry. We did it, we have finally completed the journey, together!

As I close, I would like to leave you with this. One of the most impactful things to happen to me as a Shriner happened this year. Honestly, it had nothing to do with a patient, but rather a member. I had the honor of fulfilling a major last request of a Noble be-fore his death. A Noble I did not even know very well. It taught me just how important and impactful this organization can be on a man’s life. I was humbled to be able to use my time for the benefit of a brother Noble. Please keep this in mind, we get out of this fraternity what we put into it. One does not even need to put that much in to it in order to make a huge impact on someone else as well as themselves. As we move into 2019 please think about what you can do to help another noble or the patients; make it a goal for 2019. You will not regret it and it will only make this great fraternity even stronger.

Thanks for having fun this year and please continuing having fun for generations to come!

Fraternally,

Kyle McEvoyIllustrious Potentate 2018

Counting Your BlessingsBy: David Dieckhaus, PP

A blessing is usually defined as a special favor or unexpected benefit. This is so very true of God – He delights in showing favor and mercy to His children, and He wants us to have every benefit. It’s true that sometimes we have to look hard to see the benefit in a situation, but we can gain comfort from the knowledge that God is always desiring to bless us.

Have you ever been told as a child growing up, “You need to count your bless-ings”? During this busy time of year as we all are rushing around with all we have to do preparing for the most beautiful and meaningful day of life, the birth of Christ on Christmas day, let’s take a moment to count our blessings.

I believe “the greatest blessing is to be a blessing”. There are many blessings in each person’s life throughout their day, sometimes you just need to stop and think about it and you will realize you have been blessed several times each and every day.

One of the greatest blessings of all is knowing God. Life itself is a blessing, being a parent and having a family is a blessing, being able to love and be loved is a blessing as well as the feelings of happiness is a true blessing. God has blessed us with the senses of sight, hearing, touch, and smell, which are truly blessing we use each and every day which helps us to realize the daily beauties God has created for us to make our life whole.

The freedoms we have are truly a blessing. The freedom to openly worship in your own way is freedom we enjoy every day that sometimes we take for granted.

After taking time to stop and count your blessings, you can easily see that God is doing his job and watching over us and blessing us all day long every day. Bless-ings are defiantly God’s quiet way of letting us know that he is walking with us throughout our busy day and that he loves us.

We can gain comfort from the knowledge that God is always desiring to bless us.At the end of each day lets take a few moments to reflect on the day and count our blessings and most importantly thank God for the day and the many blessings he has bestowed upon us.

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the waterthat sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes;its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of droughtand never fails to bear fruit.”Jeremiah 17:7-8

2019 Shrine Circus UpdateRussell Georgen – Circus Chairman (636-459-6606)Ron Reynolds – Circus Director (314-732-2121)

The 2019 Moolah Shrine Circus committee is hard at work. Mark your calendars for March 21st through March 24th. We are currently working with the Billy Martin Circus to secure the best acts possible.

NOW is the time to get your sponsors for the circus. There are plenty of Corporate Sponsors in the St. Louis/St. Charles area that would probably help out if we were to just ask. They are probably putting their 2019 budgets together right now and could put Moolah on their books. Please do not wait.

We will be rolling out the Child Coupons and the General Admission tickets at the December Stated meeting.

The Circus Committee is meeting on the second Wednesday of each month from September to March in the Guides unit room. Any and all volunteers are welcome to join us. There is always plenty to do. Arrive at 5:30 PM for a light dinner and the meeting begins at 6:00 PM. Please RSVP so we know how much food to prepare. 314-732-2121 or [email protected]. Our goal is to continue to make our circus the best ever, and to keep the seats full.

December Shriner of the MonthNoble Jim Stahl joined Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Moolah all in 1971. He joined YOMO in 1971 and was named President in 1975. He is the past President of the Moolah Motor Patrol, and Central States Motor Corps. Noble Stahl became an Ambassador in 1997. He is a member of the Moolah Ceremonial Cast, and The Jesters. He is a Potentate Aide and Potentate Escort.

The Public Relations Committee is hon-ored to have Noble Jim Stahl as our Shriner of the Month for December.

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California receives $198,000 gift to benefit hand programArticle & Photo provided by shrinersinternational.org - Tuesday, November 27, 2018Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California has received a gift of $198,000 to benefit its pediatric hand program. The gift to the hospital was made at the direction of anonymous donors, who have a personalized charitable fund at Placer Community Foundation (PCF).

“We are very pleased to make this significant grant on behalf of our donors,” stated Jessica Hubbard, PCF philanthropic services manager. “The donors established a Donor Advised Fund at Placer Community Foundation so they could take time to meet with the team at Shriners and learn how the program will benefit so many children now and in the future. It is an honor to facilitate such thoughtful and lasting giving.”

The Northern California Shriners Hospital is a leading provider of pediatric hand and upper extremity care in Northern California. The funds will be used to support the Riordan – Manske Hand Fund, named in memory of Daniel C. Riordan, M.D., and Paul R. Manske, M.D., orthopaedic surgeons who were pioneers in pediatric hand surgery, and instrumental in developing surgical techniques and advancing clinical outcomes through research.

“Both Dr. Riordan and Dr. Manske worked at Shriners Hospitals for Children and trained many of the pediatric hand surgeons practicing in the United States today, including three of the four hand surgeons at our hospital in Sacramento,” said Michelle James, M.D., a noted hand surgeon and chief of orthopaedics at the Northern California Shriners Hospital. “The grant is a huge contribution toward an endowment that will support pediatric hand and upper extremity research at Shriners Hospital, especially multi-center research. Many of the conditions we treat are rare, and we collaborate with other pediatric hand sur-geons working at other Shriners Hospitals to research new and innovative ways to advance care,” she added.

The pediatric hand and upper extremity program embodies the hospital’s threefold mission of treatment, teaching and research. Thousands of children with congenital malformations, brachial plexus birth injury and other conditions affecting the function of the hands, arms and shoulders are treated at the Northern California Shriners Hospital each year. The hospital is home to one of only five pediatric hand surgery fellowship programs in the United States, providing fully-trained hand surgeons an opportunity to learn and practice the pediatric specialty. Under the direction of Dr. James, the hospital is involved with both local and multi-center research studies to advance care and promote positive outcomes.

“We are grateful to the caring, anonymous donors at Placer Community Foundation for their commitment and vision,” said Alan Anderson, director of devel-opment at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California. “The spirit of community enrichment is shared by both Shriners Hospitals and the Placer Community Foundation. This generous gift will enrich the lives of kids treated at our hospital, giving them an opportunity to live life to their full potential and actively engage in the communities in which they live."

“The contribution is especially meaningful when one considers that a high percentage of the children treated at our hospital live in Placer County and neigh-boring communities. And it is compounded by the fact that it will support research that will be incorporated into best practices by surgeons working through-out California and the United States,” Anderson noted. “The positive community impact of this donation will grow for many years to come.”

Christmas is like Candy: it slowly melts in your mouth sweetening every taste bud, making you wish it could last forever…except for your wallet. The Christmas season is upon us. We see Christmas everywhere. Stores decorate, people put up trees and radio stations play appropriate music. We cannot help feel excited and look forward to family dinners, opening of presents and watching Christmas specials on TV. Buying that almost perfect tree and placing lights and ornaments on it brightens our homes and when children or grandchildren see Santa Claus or open presents, we smile to see joy in their eyes.

rattle off to your family and friends and impress them….maybe?

President Roosevelt is the answer from the previ-ous Camels’ Tales.

There are many times and places to get togeth-er with fellow Shriners. We all have parties to attend held by our Units. Plan on attending them. Also plan on attending the brunch with Santa and the patient party. To see kids having fun makes being a Shriner what is worthwhile.

Our Christmas party is on 12-14-18. We hope you can attend. Ladies are welcome and this is a good time to socialize and renew/strengthen friendships. Widows of Ambassadors are encour-aged to attend as our guest. We will have our open bar, 50/50 and maybe a special surprise. The cost is $18 per person. Reservations are required. Call Monica at 314-878-6301.

If you are an Ambassador or the Widow of an Ambassador and you have not received an invitation to the Ambassador Christmas party by Thanksgiving, please call Wally at 314-498-6915 or send an E-mail to [email protected]. This will help us update our Ambassador list.

At a previous luncheon we became well informed of Moolah activities. Jack Melton gave a Divan report and Jeff Kittsmiller discussed membership. Ron Reynolds gave an update on the 2019 Cir-cus planning and Mark Rethemeyer said Daniel Boone’s car show was a success. “Robbie” The Clown informed everyone that on the first Monday of the Month the Clowns were teaching balloon twisting. John Cordell explained the relationship between Moolah and Wings of Hope.

All Ambassadors are invited and encouraged to at-tend the monthly luncheons. When you plan to come for a luncheon, you could call another Ambassador and have him ride with you, especially if he does not drive. We need more Ambassadors attending our meetings. We usually finish by 1:00 p.m.

Make sure you attend the Stated Meeting this month 12-19-18. Attendance is very important. We vote for the Divan and Potentate who will provide leadership for the coming year.

Happy birthday to all Ambassadors who have a birthday this month. There are several Ambassa-dors who are in sickness and distress. Please keep them in your prayers, send them a note or call them.

Remember the real reason for Christmas. Here are some interesting facts about Christmas:1) Artificial trees have outsold reals ones since 1991.2) Letters to Santa in Canada are so numerous that Santa has a Zip Code: HOHOHO3) Last year the US Postal service delivered 28.2 million packages on December 22.4) Americans send three billion Christmas cards every year.5) The most popular ornament placed at the top of the Christmas Tree is an Angel.

Hello, from your Moolah Band:

Sadly, the Band has lost our longest-serving member, Barry Hyatt. He passed on November 3rd, having been a member for well over 50 years. Barry at various times played lead trumpet, baritone horn and serving as an associate conductor. He was also a master jeweler and an amateur actor, serving the community for many years. He will be truly missed, but we are hon-ored to have his son, David, as our tubist to continue his legacy. What a wonderful concert season we are having! Everywhere we play we are so heartily received it appears the folks are simply hungry for good music. The smiles on the faces is wonderful recognition for what we do.

Coming up we have our annual Breakfast with Santa and Christmas Party for the patients at Shriners Hospital St. Louis. These are some of the highlights of our year. If you like what you hear at these events, and have played an instrument in the past, won’t you consider joining us; we promise you an enjoyable time, good fFellowship and fun music. We meet Wednesday nights from 7:00-9:00PM if we don’t have a performance that week. You can always call me to get information.

We have a very tight group of musicians who continue to improve with each concert. this leaves me with a great deal of pride for our musicians, and also gives us a chance to spread the word about Shrinedom and our hospitals. At almost every concert I am approached by someone who has been touched by the generosity and profes-sionalism of our hospitals and staffs.

Also, remember we are a community band, so if your child or grandchild, or you significant other plays an instrument, he or she is welcome to play in the Band. Our concerts are mainly Wednesday nights at 7:00, and on some Tuesdays.

We would love to have you participate with us.

We always leave ‘em smiling!

UNIT & COMMITTEE REPORTS

John Frederick (Barley) DirectorPaul Goggins (Gametime)- PresLee Mueller (Green Jeans)- 1st Vice PresGary Fanger (Duffer)- 2nd Vice PresJohn Tremblay ( Shabba-Dabba)- Treas

Merry Christmas!! Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. The Potentate's Holiday Ball was well represented by our unit and everyone in attendence had a great time. Very shortly, and I'm hoping this comes out before it happens, Santa's Brunch and my favorite event the Shriners Hospital Patient Party will be coming up. I know our unit goes all out for these 2 events and how could you not be involved when there is a room full of kids looking for a crazy clown to interact with them. These 2 events really set off the Christmas Holidays. Lets not forget the event for the Deaf Children led by Buckles (Dave Hartwig). This is one of the most interesting events to go to. Hundreds of people and hardly any sound. But there were a lot of smiles. Several of our Unit members walked in the Veteran's Parade downtown and went to help out the Clown Unit at the Kansas City Circus.

Our Trivia Nite will be here before you know it. Door prizes are needed as well as raffle items. Please bring them in as soon as you can so our ladies can get them organized. Please use the donation letter when approching someone and if you receive a large donation get their name and address so we can send them a thank you letter. Also get Slapshot (Steve Leassner) you table reservations soon because we will fill up fast like last year.

A big Thanks goes out to Tunes (Mike Brooks), Splatter (Jay Traxel) and Half Note (Travis Laws) for heading up the Mondays Balloon Jams. They are really doing a good job instructing us on how to make different balloon animals and the way to approach the kids at events. Lots of great ideas on this that even I could not think of.

Merlin (Tom Dolan) was in the Macy's Thanks-giving parade this year and I bet you didn't recognize him! He was Santa!! He did flash us the special sign to us when the cameras were on him. Good Job Buddy!!

A recent study showed that women, who carry a little more weight on them live longer than men who mention it!

The Chanter officers for 2019 were elected, and will be:President – Barry Spitzer1st VP – Jim Gesell2nd VP – David LarkinTreasurer – Bill BradfordSecretary – John GlassTrustee – Mark Brigulio

In memory of our Brother Rick Wiedemann, the Chanters voted to place a memorial brick in the Moolah Brick Walk of Fame. His operatic voice, positive attitude, love of life, and patriot zeal will all be missed but not forgotten.

The Chanters had a very successful fundraiser at the Festival of the Little Hills in St. Charles in August. A big “thank you” to our Barry Spitzer who organized, coordinated, and chaired the event. The Greentree Festival fundraiser in Kirk-wood was held on September 15 and 16. This event was also very successful, and we owe a big “thank you” to our John Glass who organized, coordinated, and chaired this event.

The Chanters participated at the Metabolic Bone Disease & Molecular Research Center 35th An-niversary Open House on Saturday, October 6th. The Chanters sang and provided Ted Drewes Frozen Custard for the Center's current and for-mer patients, their families, and the Hospital Staff.

On Saturday, November 3 the Chanters sang for the DeMolay Legion of Honor Investiture. We will also participate in the Fall Ceremonial on Saturday, November 17, the Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 8, the Hospital Patient Christmas Party on Sunday, December 9, and the Hospital Board of Governors Christmas Party on Wednesday, December 12 at 6 pm. The Chant-ers are also working on a date to sing Christmas Songs at the Hospital for patients and staff with the Crestwood Demolay band. The preference is for Friday, December 14 with the 21st as our alternate date.

The Chanter Christmas Party and installation will be held on Monday, December 17 in the Shrine Unit Room. Director Jerry Gaddy will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event.

The Chanters meet every Monday in the Unit Room, with our business meeting on the first Monday of every month. If you like to sing, we would love to have you join us. If you do not sing but play the piano, we would love to have you join us as

We missed the school on the first try and explored South Rock Hill Road before returning to the right address. When we arrived at the correct destination, we were the only vehicle on the parking lot. We thought maybe we had the wrong day or whatever. Usually, there are a bunch of kids that come early. Anyway, after another half hour wait a lonely old fire engine showed up so we knew we were in the right place. Later, all the groups showed up for this new parade for us, a short parade that goes from one school to another school down Rock Hill Road and Manchester Road. Traffic on these roads shuts down for the parade to pass by. One large school band was ahead of us in the parade and there were some crowds along the way. We enjoy going to these short parades to promote the Shriners and our Director Rick and Drum Major Dave thank everyone for showing up.

The Racquet Ruckus racquetball tournament is scheduled for Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Vetta near 270 and Tesson Ferry. The on-line silent auction (www.RacquetRuckus.org) will begin on November, 22nd and continue until around December 9th. Contributions for the auction should be directed to Bob Berry, the organizer for the event, as should any donations. Thus far this year, over $40,000 in donations and sponsorships have been pledged. These funds will be used at our St. Louis Hospital to fund things not paid for by Tampa, including Hand Camp, Dobbs Bars and prosthetic supplies for POPs, food for Research patients and their families, PT/OT equipment, Pain-management materials, and BBQs for Hospital patients, families, and staff. Over the 7 years that Bob has run this event, he has donated over $320,000 to our St. Louis Shriners Hospital for Children. If you can as-sist with a donation of money or items for the silent auction, please contact Bob at (314) 705-0723 or [email protected]. The Racquet Ruckus Foundation is a 501(c) 3 organization, and all proceeds benefit the children of Shriners Hospital St. Louis. You will receive a “thank you” letter from the Hospital acknowledging your gift.

Committee responsibilities include collecting the password at Stated Meetings, running the Shrine Gift Shop, collecting tickets and donations at Shrine meals, and other duties requested by the Poten-tate. Our certified members conduct BBQs at the Hospital for patients, their families, and staff and also provide tours of the Hospital. Some Commit-tee members are volunteers who staff the reception desk at the Hospital to greet and welcome our patients and their families and to provide a small gift to each child when they leave. Additional vol-unteers are always needed to help at the Hospital during clinic hours in the morning, afternoon, or both. If you are available, please contact President Bill Bradford at (314) 974-3084.

Our Shriners Hospital for Children sees on average 800 patients per month in the outpatient clinc. This does not include patients for surgeries, the POPS Department, Research, or therapy visits, all who also receive a toy upon departing the Hospital. This brings the total to more than 1,000 children and toys a month, and this does not include the siblings of patients who also receive a toy upon de-parting our Hospital. To help fund the purchase of these toys, the Committee voted to donate $1,000 to the TCAA Toy Chest Fund.

If you like to interact with and support your fellow Nobles and our Shriner Kids and their families, then we would love to have you join us. Because of the responsibilities of the Committee members at Stated Meetings, we now meet the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 pm. The new Hospital Reception Committee meets in the room east of the Shrine

Did you know as a Moolah Shriner, you are also a member of TCAA? As a member of TCAA you may also be a guest at one of our monthly board meeting (normally the 4th Wednesday of the month in the Air Patrol room around 6:30pm), we just ask that you call the Secretary or President in advance so that we have head count for refreshments.

If you hear or see a child or a family with a child that may be able to use the services of our hospital, please let them know. Our Hospital needs patients. * * * What is TCAA * * *As members of Temple Charity Activities Associ-ation, we help provide and assist Our St. Louis Hospital with some of their needs and request for the hospital and/or patients. Ask your Unit Rep-resentative or call Bob (636-675-4590) and we can come out to your meetings and give a brief talk. Who are the Unit Representatives? Each Shrine Unit can have up to 3 of their members to represent your Shrine Unit and can have a vote at our TCAA Monthly meetings.

TCAA has "HLP-KDS" License Plate Stickers for sale--only $3.00 each. Ask your unit representative.

TCAA is looking for “Corporate Donations", to ultimately provide necessary funds to support The Saint Louis Shriners Hospital. We need your help in our mission to support our St. Louis Shriners Hospital. Please give Bob s a call (636-675-4590) if you know a company with surplus items to be donated that can be used to sell.

Ever thought about purchasing ID Theft Protec-tion and/or Pre-Paid Legal assistance, give us a call and we have a program in place that just may help you out while also supporting TCAA.

The new Hospital is going well and here are the newer numbers.

We will be starting the season with our Holiday Party on Thursday, December 6th at All Occasion Banquet Center in St. Charles. A great night of

President: David P. PerkinsSecretary: David Mauldin Capital Shrine Club held it's regular monthly meeting at the Club on Tuesday November 13th. This was a special night as the Club elected a new slate of Officers and Board of Directors. The new President for next year is Noble David Lewis. We were particularly honored with the presence of the Poentate of Moolah Temple, Kyle McE-voy and his Lady Kerry; as well as three Divan members and their Lady's. The Potentate made two new Ambassadors - Club President David P. Perkins and Club Secretary David Mauldin. The Potentate reviewed the Temple's activities for the remainder of this year. President Perkins reported on the Shriner and Masonic Lodge participation with Cole County Health Department. This is an excellent partnership for con-ducting the MOCHIP Program of the Grand Lodge and Shriner Screening Clinics for the Hospital. MERRY CHRISTMASBy the time you get this Camels’ Tales, Moolah will have enjoyed the 2018 Christmas Ball and the Holiday Season will be in full swing.

This month will be a busy one with all the Unit Christmas Parties. But don’t forget that Decem-ber 8th is our “Brunch with Santa” and December 9th is our Shriner Hospital Patient Christmas Party. Both of these events are a big hit with the kids and highly anticipated all year. Volunteers will be needed for both events to ensure that they are a success.

The Temple Club Christmas/Bake Sale Luncheon will be December 12th in the ballroom. Dig out that special recipe and wow us with some delicious baked goods. This is your chance to do something for Temple Club…. BAKE and BUY. We also are invited to bring our husbands, significant other or a friend to enjoy this luncheon. Also on the program is the installation of the 2019 Temple Club Officers. Don’t forget to make your reservations.

With our busy schedules it is easy to lose sight of the “reason for the season”. Take time with your family, friends and neighbors and share the joy of the season.

Peace on earth, good will to men!

As we get into winter and approach the holiday season I hope this finds everyone warm and happy. Hopefully we are waiting to see what bowl game the Tigers have earned but I always look to the bright side of life. If you made it to the Fish Fry then I know you had a great meal. We served over 100 people and everyone left full. The cooks once again did a great job!!

Did your kids & grandkids enjoy the Breakfast with Santa? Please be sure and thank all the ladies that brought this event back and made it a success. A big tip of the fez to all the ladies and everyone that participated.

The December meeting at Moolah will be held on 12/19/18. This is election of officers and always a good time. We are planning to have a bus again for the trip so please contact Patrick if you are interested in attending. Come out and enjoy the food, fellowship and have a say in who will be running our temple next year. I am sure there will be some liquid refreshments on the bus.

Be sure and mark your calendar for our installa-tion of officers. It will be held on 2/16/19 in Mexi-co at the Elks lodge. This is the same location as last time and it is always a good time. Look for details in the mail as we get closer to the event. I

am sure we will have a bus for the trip.

The December meeting will be 12/17/18. The meeting was moved up because of the holidays. Folks start showing up around 5:30pm. Come out and enjoy the club and have a good meal and some cool drinks.

The Tiger Shrine club is located at 2315 N Stadium Blvd, Columbia, MO 65202.

fun is planned with a buffet dinner, great enter-tainment, and lots of fellowship! Whether you are a member of Daniel Boone, or not – you and your Lady are welcome and encouraged to join us for a fun filled evening. If you would like more information about attending our Holiday Party (or any of our events) please give President Mark a call at 314-605-7615.

You do not have to be a member of Daniel Boone to join us for our events. All Shriner’s and their Ladies are always welcome and encouraged to join us. We will make sure you are greeted when you arrive, and that you and your Lady will have a great time.

A new take on "Walk This Way" by former patient raises awareness to support Shriners Hospitals for Children. Video features cameo by Aerosmith's Steven Tyler

To help give back to the health care system that she credits with transforming her life, Ali McManus, a past pa-tient of Shriners Hospitals for Children and a singer-song-writer, has released a new music video for Roll This Way, her sassy take on Aerosmith’s classic hit Walk This Way.

Born with a rare bone disorder, McManus has been in a wheelchair since she was 7. As she has addressed on the title track of her previous EP, Unbreakable, people tend

to see the wheelchair before they see her.

Where Unbreakable laments that short-sightedness, Roll This Way knocks down the walls, breaking the stigma and reveal-ing McManus’ feisty, vivacious nature. Roll This Way is a cheeky statement that McManus, now in her early 20s, won’t let anything stop her from having a good time and living life to the fullest.

The video also features Steven Tyler pushing Ali in her chair while singing along to Roll This Way. In fact, Ali wrote the song after her producer Jack Douglas, who worked with Aerosmith, told her the story of recording Walk This Way. Her response: “I can’t ‘walk this way,’ but I can roll this way!’”

In this new recording, with all new lyrics including her clever replacement of the phrase “just give me a kiss” to “just give me a push,” Ali serves up a new kind of fearless inspiration for those navigating disabilities.

“I am so proud of her for following her dream with determination and persistence,” said Angie Nenninger, RN, who has served as Ali’s nurse coordinator since she was 10. “I know that her music and her story will touch the lives of many young patients who are struggling to find their way. She is truly an inspiration to us all.”

In the video, Ali is hanging with her girlfriends, cruising Los Angeles in a 1969 cherry Buick convertible and taking over a roller rink while “skating” with friends. With choreography by Marisa Hamamoto, who specializes in working with dancers with disabilities, Ali dances with the other girls in scenes that promote inclusion, serving as a normalizing image of life in a chair.

Roll This Way is an anthem for embracing what makes us different, inspiring people of all backgrounds to live a life without limits. Ali encourages viewers to donate to one of two charities: Shriners Hospital for Children, where Ali received multiple surgeries (she is a Shriner's youth ambassador for the St. Louis Shriners Hospital and performs at fundraisers, as well as in the hospitals), and Janie’s Fund, a charity founded by Steven Tyler that is dedicated to assisting young girls who are victims of abuse. All Shriners Hospitals for Children donations will go to the St. Louis and Tampa hospitals. Mc-Manus also will be donating royalties from the song. As Roll This Way reflects, Ali McManus lives her truth, basking in her best life with no boundaries. As she’ll proudly tell anyone she meets, “I’m just a normal girl who happens to sit in a chair all day.”
