History

The event first took place in the year of 1999. At the time promoters (Jaanika Terasmaa, Signe Kallson, Anni Riisik) were

freshmen textile designers and it was then called Tartu Art College Fashionshow. Follies took place in different public locus such as the

Vanemuise Theater café, Sõbramaja, Püssirohukelder, restoran TsinkPlekkPang and also in Tartu Art College (TKK). The school still

is the main contributor, since the project originally was meant to advocate TKK students’ work. The idea has partly remained, but in 2002 the branches were broaden out – installations, performances and dance acts were attached. On the spot there has always been

installations and exhibition of various artists’ paintings-photos-sculptures. In the year 2002 the project was rather experimentive,

but in 2003 it was organized with certainty to its necessity. Many of Estonian universities and colleges have been represented ( i.e.

Viljandi Kultuurikolledz, TKK, Eesti Kunstiakadeemia, Tallinna Pedagoogiline Ülikool, Euroülikool etc.). For the first time there was

foreign artists participating, Viktoria Rydite from Latvia with a 15-member ensemble. And of course locals such as Andres Keil,

Margus Liivak, Enn Tegova etc. The place has been Tartu Sadamateater, which is a good associate. Traditionally the event culminates with a big fashion show, where only 15 most creative

fashion designers show their artistic productions ( Maarja Habicht, Triinu Pungits, Jaanika Terasmaa, Liisi Eesmaa etc.).

Purpose

It’s not just an other fashion show, but

international, staged, innovative,

stylish and experimental spectacle,

where fashion, performance and

dance meet.

aim is to enrich Tartu’s culturelife

and to offer young designers a

chance to come out to a big stage

with their craziest ideas. So fresh

blood can put their ideas in the

practice, compare it and experiment

on the audience.
