7. TREE PLANTATION DRIVE
A Tree plantation drive, social activity was conducted by the cadets of Air Wing NCC/ Flt – B on 04
Aug 2019. The drive took place at Alva’s Homeopathy Medical Garden, at Shobavana Camp, Mijar,
Moodbidri. Total of 26 cadets and 37 NCC aspirants took part in the drive.
Flt Cdr of Flt – B had approached the forest department officer at Moodbidri to collect the sapling.
Forest department had given the recommendation to collect the saplings from the Karkala forest
department. Flt – B received 40 saplings of teak-wood plants from the forest department of Karkala.
The main aim of this drive was to spread and create awareness to protect the environment. We
selected the empty places in the garden of Shobhavana campus to plant the saplings in a well-
organized way. All 43 plant saplings were planted on this occasion. In order to restore the eco-
balance of the afforestation, this tree plantation drive was taken with all seriousness. The tragedy is
that we are bent upon cutting down the trees which were planted by our senior generations. It is very
common sight that everyday numerous trees are cut down to satisfy the human needs and greed. The
painful aspect of the picture is that none of us is ready to think of their replacement. Trees keep the
stream of life running. Without trees, the atmosphere gives a barren look where there will be no sign
of living organisms.
Keeping these things in mind we underwent tree plantation drive. All of them were highly
enthusiastic to make it a big success. The cadets planted saplings and fenced them, watered the

plants. This drive was a huge success empowering the cadets with substantial knowledge of
environment and plants and simultaneously enhancing their social skills.
Forest Department was so kind, they provided us saplings. We on would like to thank the forest
department for generous support in giving the samplings for the betterment of ecosystem.
We would also like to thank Commanding Officer & Staff of 06 Kar Air Sqn NCC, Mangalore for
continues guidance and support in conducting these drives.
We also thank our Principal and Management for providing the vehicle and other necessary facility

2. HAMS RADIO COMMUNICATION DURING DISASTER MANAGEMENT
On 24th September there was a guest talk on HAMS Radio communication during disaster
management by the founder of Indian Institute of Hams Dr.Shankar Sathyapal VU2FI.
The program was organized by the Department of ECE, AIET in which 29 cadets Air wing Flt – B
of 06 Kar Air Sqn NCC took part in the talk, to understand how to setup communication link during
disaster management. Dr. S Sathyapal is the managing trustee &Director (admin) & Officer

awards and gold medal for his service and he was awarded the engineering excellence awards.
INDIAN INSTITUTE OF HAMS (IIH) was established as a registered trust in 1993 for promoting
amateur (HAM) radio in India.
What is amateur radio (HAM Radio)?
Amateur Radio (ham radio) is a popular hobby and service that brings people, electronics and
communication together. People use ham radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into
space, all without the Internet or cell phones.
Alva’s Air Wing NCC (Flight – B)
Moodbidri - 574227
6 Kar AIR SQN NCC, Mangalore
39
HAM radio operators need to pass an examination for the license. The syllabus for the examination
is Electronics theory i.e, basic electronics, Receivers and transmitters, Antennas and wireless
transmission, wave propagation.
He various activate he carry out as follows,
o Field days to train Ham operations to setup and handle effective communications during
disasters are conducted at regular intervals.
o Demonstrations, lectures, slide and video presentation programming are conducted at various
educational institutional and social organizations as and when called for.
o Seminars, workshops and mock drills are conducted periodically.
o Fox Hunts (Radio direction finding) are organized almost every year.
o Quiz-on-air program.
o Electronics assembly workshops.
HAM Radio doesn’t need internet to communicate, it just need a good line of sight. During disasters
the internet may not work properly but the HAM radio can. The is a team called HAM action force in
which the team members use HAM radios to communicate and help the people. All things are
permitted to talk over the HAM radio
The term HAM is a person, who is deeply interested on radio communication, setting up their own
private radio station in their home, conducts experiments and develops global experience. We can
communicate people from all over the world by setting frequency bands like VHF, UHF, HF. There
