On December 5 the Robotics Day
event organized by the Trail
Blazers robotics team with the
assistance of the State School
Heitor Villa Lobos, was
conducted with the aim of raising
funds for the purchase of
materials with which to build the
robot for the next season of the
FIRST robotics competition (FRC)
which begins on the 9th of
January 2016. The event took
place at the School Heitor Villa
Lobos and had several
attractions for young children
and teenagers. It was divided
into five rooms, each with a
theme and different tasks. In the
"History" area, team members
explained and showed the
trajectory of our team, together
with robots that were used in
previous competitions. The "Hall
of guys" room provided

entertaining games for young
people to enjoy, using the
Kinect, with dance games and
computers with game
simulations from previous FRC
seasons. The room "Delicious"
displayed and sold sweet and
savory snacks that were
produced by team members.
The "Lego Giants" area
promoted the Lego Giants FLL
team with a demonstration of
the robot they built and also the
game course for the current
season, leaving the children who
visited the room very curious
and fascinated. We also offered
short courses in robotics and
programming for the
participants of the event,
handing them certificates and

giving them many learning opportunities. In the central area of the school,
we demonstrated our 2013 robot. Several children had the opportunity to
control our champion robot which won the competition in Orlando, giving them
the experience of adrenaline piloting a robot that weighs almost 50 kg and is
more than 1.6 meters tall. We appreciate the presence and help of everyone at
the event, thank you for all your support!

In November 2015 many
students of our team were
volunteers in the FLL competition
that took place on 27th and 28th
in the city of Porto Alegre - RS.
Our participation in the event
began a week before the
tournament, when we received
six Lego kits of "missions" to
assemble, our team members
put a lot of effort into assembling
them and thought that it was a
very fun task. On competition
day some members of our team
also attended the event as
referees and judges, whistling
during matches and as
"angels" (people responsible for
helping children during practice
and other functions).
Furthermore, we continue to
assist a new FLL (FIRST Lego
League) team in our city, the
"Lego Giants", which is very
satisfying because our main goal
is to teach them about FIRST and
its values through STEM, and we
know that the team spirit was
contagious.

For over a decade the team has had major partners who have been essential to us participating in
every season of the FIRST Robotics Competition. These companies are willing to help our project by investing in
the education of young people from public schools and communities in need. So as a thank you and to
strengthen our partnership, in recent months we visited several of these sponsors giving them a social
responsibility certificate and a CD with photos and videos from last season. Everyone was very happy to receive
feedback from past activities and competitions which we participate in. We bring them our gratitude, because
our project could not keep up without the generosity and support of each.

In November 2015 we organized a campaign to help families who were
affected by heavy rains that occurred in our state. We collected clothes,
non-perishable food and hygiene products, which were donated to the
Gravataí food bank. Our mobilization was very important because the
rains this year devastated the houses of many poor families in cities of the
state of Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil.
Many thanks to all who helped us in this act of solidarity!

FIRST is an acronym for Inspiration and Re-
cognition of Science and Technology. FIRST was
founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest
and participation in science and technology. Based
in Manchester, NH, the 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit
public charity designs accessible, innovative pro-
grams that motivate young people to pursue edu-
cation and career opportunities in science, techno-
logy, engineering, and math, while building self-
confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
The varsity Sport for the MindTM, FRC
combines the excitement of sport with the ri-
gors of science and technology. Under strict
rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams
of 25 students or more are challenged to raise
funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork.
Currently, the regional completions happen in
United States, Mexico, Canada, Israel, and
Australia.
