The Keep Safe Card is a countywide scheme which helps people with any disability or illness which may make them vulnerable feel safe and secure when out

and about.

The Keep Safe Scheme was initially launched in 2011 for people with learning disabilities. It proved a popular way for card holders and their families to feel safe when they were out and about. Many other organisations were keen to be able to provide the card to their service users and so with financial support from Northamptonshire’s Police and

Crime Commissioner, the scheme was relaunched in April 2018.

The expansion of the scheme has enabled new member organisations to sign up as key partners. These organisations include Age UK, Autism East Midlands, Mind, Northamptonshire Association for the Blind, Northamptonshire County Council, Northamptonshire Carers and North-

amptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust.

The project encourages people with a disability, people who experience mental illness, or people who may be vulnerable, to sign up as Keep Safe Card holders. When they register they are provided a Keep Safe Card, which holds some basic details about the person's needs as well as contact details for people close to them, such as family or carers, who can be telephoned in an emergency. The card also gives an idea of how best to

help and communicate with the card holder.

The card can then be shown whenever the holder feels lost, bullied, worried about their safety or in need of assistance in any way and helps us

understand their needs if they are in crisis.

Help may be found in shops, libraries, leisure centres, GP surgeries or anywhere a person feels they can ask for support. The three emergency services, police, fire and ambulance, will also be able to access the

information to be able to support the person in the best possible way.

The Recycled Silent Movie Project is part of Hat Fair’s Celebrating Age

project, a two-year programme of arts activity for, with and about over 60’s.

Hat Fair are delivering three projects exploring the realities of life as an

older person in the UK which, through theatre and film, celebrate positive

images of older people.

The final outcome will be a new short film (approximately 18-20 minutes),

made from recycled footage taken from the Hampshire Records Office and

Corby Borough Council’s Heritage Collection. New footage will also be

taken of participants in workshops and discussions.

Over 60’s across Northamptonshire are being

invited to participate in this project as they bring

stories to the film through a series of workshops

with professional filmmakers, composer and

historians.

The film will then be available in each city’s

sound and film archive and on partner websites

and is funded by the Arts Council England and

Baring Foundation Celebrating Age grant.

Participants will need to be available for four

sessions:

Tuesday 2nd October, 1-4pm, The Core at Corby Cube

Reminiscence Workshop

Monday 8th October, 2-4pm – Corby Heritage Collection

Oral history and tour of the archives

Tuesday 16th October, 1-4pm, The Core at Corby Cube

Creation of a giftbox for the other town (This session will be filmed)

Tuesday 30th October, 1-4pm, The Core at Corby Cube

Discovering Winchester and it’s residents through their giftbox (This

session will be filmed)

If you choose to sign up you will have access to subsidised or free

transport to attend the workshops, filming and showcase. You will also be

invited to the live showcases of your film and exhibition of resonant items in

December, reaching an audience of thousands.

If you have any questions about the project or to sign up please contact:

Celebrating Age in Northamptonshire

Fruit and vegetables are a great source of vitamins,

minerals and fibre, and are an important part of a

healthy, balanced diet.

Eating plenty of fruit and veg helps keep us healthy,

and may reduce the risk of disease and some

cancers.

For kids, the amount they should eat depends on

their size and age. As a rough guide, one portion is

the amount they can fit in the palm of their hand.

For adults, a portion is 80g fruit:

That's a large slice of fruit like melon or pineapple

One medium apple, banana or pear

Two smaller fruits like plums or satsumas

Seven strawberries or 20 raspberries

One handful of grapes

Or 30g dried fruit

One heaped tablespoon of dried fruit, such as

raisins, cherries or dates

Or 80g of vegetables:

That's three heaped tablespoons of peas, beans

or pulses

Three heaped tablespoons of veggies like sliced

carrots, mixed vegetables or corn

Four heaped tablespoons of cooked green veg-

gies like cabbage and spring greens

Two spears of broccoli or one medium tomato

A dessert bowl of salad greens
