Craig received a copy of the Momentum Magazine in which he saw a hand cranked tricycle. He realized he could do this rather than navigating in a wheel chair and then it begins. Kiwanians.  To  me  this  is  a  housekeeping  item.  Submitted  by  the  KIB  (Kiwanis  International  Board).  2.   Use  of  Kiwanis  name  and  marks  –  Purpose:  To  clarify  Kiwanis  International  authority  regarding  use  of  the  Kiwanis  name  and  marks  as  it  relates  to  foundations  and  other  affiliated  entities,  including  intellectual  property.     The  current  bylaws  do  not  mention  protection  of  Kiwanis  intellectual  property  and  use  of  the  Kiwanis  name  and  marks  by  affiliates  and  subsidiaries.    Without  this  addition,  Kiwanis  would  have  to  bear  the  legal  expenses  to  protect  Kiwanis  reputation  though  its  brand  and  image.  More  house  keeping?            Submitted  by  KIB.    3.   Kiwanis  International  affiliates  and  subsidiaries  –  Purpose:  To  codify  Kiwanis  International  “affiliates,”  which  are  regions  or  other  groups  composed  of  clubs  and  districts  and  “subsidiaries,”  which  are  wholly-‐owned  organizations  and  business  entities.    This  amendment  distinguishes  between  “affiliates”  (such  as  Kiwanis  International  European  Federation  KIEF)  or  Kiwanis  Asia-‐Pacific  (ASPAC)  and  “subsidiaries”  (such  as  Kiwanis  International  Foundation,  Kiwanis  Youth  programs,  Circle  K  International  and  Kiwanis  Canada)  and  how  International  will  be  able  to  assist  and  retain  a  general  oversight  of  them  by  review  of  proposed  bylaws  and  amendments  affiliates.  More  Housekeeping?        Submitted  by  KIB.    4.   District  treasurer  –  Purpose:  To  revise  the  term  and  selection  process  for  district  treasurers  in  order  to  align  districts  with  Kiwanis  International’s  strategic  plan  and  provide  better  oversight  over  district  funds,  assets,  and  financial  operations.    This  amendment  changes  the  selection  of  the  District  Treasurer  from  and  elected  position  to  and  appointed  position  by  a  district’s  board.    It  elevates  the  position  to  the  District’s  Chief  Financial  Officer.    The  districts  would  have  to  change  their  bylaws  by  Oct.1,  2017.        Submitted  by  KIB.    5.   Annual  adjustment  option  for  Kiwanis  International  dues  –  Purpose:  To  provide  that  Kiwanis  International  dues  may  be  adjusted  by  (the  Int.  Board  of  Trustees)  no  more  than  US$2  annually  with  a  cap  of  US$5  over  a  five-‐year  period,  to  keep  up  with  inflation.    Does  this  sound  familiar?      After  the  five-‐year  period  the  House  of  Delegates  would  have  to  approve  another  increase  for  another  five  years.  The  increase  would  vary  by  Tiers.    The  US  is  in  Tier  A  which  pays  100%.    Tier  B  pays  65%  or  US$1.30  and  Tier  C  pays  44%  or  US$0.88.        Submitted  by  KIB.    6.     Secure  web-‐based  voting  for  Kiwanis  International  business  –  Purpose:  To  provide  that  the  business  of  Kiwanis  International  decided  by  delegates  will  be  conducted  by  secure  electronics  voting,  thereby  giving  an  equal  voice  to  all  Kiwanis  clubs  (worldwide).    This  also  sounds  familiar.    This  would  mean  that  Kiwanians  would  not  have  to  attend  an  International  Convention  to  vote  in  the  House  of  Delegates  for  Officers  and  Amendments,  dues  increases  etc.    The  KIB  opposes  this  amendment  as  I  do.        Submitted  by  the  Capital  District  Board.    7.   Tiered  dues  –  Purpose:  To  base  tiered  dues  on  a  percentage  of  the  gross  national  income  of  the  U.S.    In  2013  the  U.S.  gross  national  income  was  $53,750.    Currently  the  Tiers  are  based  on  the  U.S.  per  capita  amounts.    Tier  A  are  countries  with  a  per  capita  income  of  more  than  US$10,000  pays  100%  of  the  dues  ($52).  Tier  B  countries  with  a  per  capita  income  of  US$5,000  to  US$9,999  pay  65%  of  the  dues  ($34).  Tier  C  countries  with  a  per  capita  income  of  US$4,999  or  less  pay  44%

Monday  News  page  3  of  3  Proposed  amendments  for  the  Int.  Conv.  Cont.    7th  amendment  cont.    of  the  dues  ($23).    The  KIB  feels  if  Amendment  #7  is  approved  Kiwanis  International  would  lose  $443,000  per  year    or  4.1%  of  the  International  budget.  The  KIB  opposes  this  amendment.    Some  how  the  money  would  have  to  be  replaced  by  dues  increase  or  membership  increases.    Dues  make  up  84%  of  the  International  budget.    Submitted  by  the  Kiwanis  club  Avelgem-‐Land  von  Streuvels,  Belgium.    8.   Members  who  belong  to  more  than  one  club    -‐  Purpose:  To  provide  that  members  who  belong  to  more  than  one  Kiwanis  club  shall  only  pay  Kiwanis  International  and  district  dues  to  their  primary  club.    This  is  presented  by  an  Austria  club  and  upon  reading  the  changes  to  the  bylaws  it  might  not  be  so  good,  because  if  the  club  is  in  a  different  district  a  member  would  would  still  have  to  pay  dues  in  each  district.  I  feel  it  is  wrong  to  have  to  pay  International  and  District  dues  twice.    According  to  Kiwanis  International  there  are  1,161  members  that  belong  to  two  Kiwanis  clubs.    If  this  were  adopted  Kiwanis  International  would  lose  $60,372  in  dues  collections  per  year.    The  Snowbirds  might  like  this,  I  don’t  know.  To  me  a  better  proposal  would  be  to  pay  only  once  to  Kiwanis  International  and  prorate  the  dues  if  the  member  is  in  a  different  district  such  as  Ohio  and  Florida.  Submitted  by  the  Kiwanis  club  of  Lentia,  Austria.    9.     Life  membership  status  fee  –  Purpose:  To  provide  a  variable  life  membership  status  fee  based  on  the  member’s  age.  The  current  life  membership  cost  is  15  times  the  annual  dues  which  is  $52  for  a  total  of  $780  a  one  time  payment.  The  Council  Grove  club  is  proposing  a  flat  fee  of  $400  at  age  21  and  reduced  every  ten  years  so  a  person  of  80  years  old  would  pay  $250.    A  life  membership  may  be  given  by  a  club  to  honor  a  member  who  most  complies  with  the  Objects  of  Kiwanis.    In  reading  the  financial  impact  statement,  the  loss  to  Kiwanis  International  would  be  $64,600  based  on  an  average  of  170  members  receiving  life  membership  status.    Currently  there  are  4,014  life  members.  Submitted  by  the  Kiwanis  club  of  Council  Grove,  Kansas.      10.   Foundations,  charitable  funds  and  other  affiliated  entities  –  Purpose:  to  clarify  Kiwanis  International’s  authority  regarding  foundations  and  affiliated  entities.  The  Kiwanis  International  Board  favors  Amendment  #2  because  they  feel  it  addresses  what  is  being  presented  in  this  amendment.    It  is  also    their  feeling  Amendment  #2  is  better  because  it  was  written  in  legal  terminology,  drafted  by  an  attorney.    I  suppose  that  a  justifiable  reason  to  defeat  this  amendment.    Submitted  by  the  Northwest  Columbus  Kiwanis  Club    Columbus,  Ohio.    11.   Delegate  verification  process  for  electronic  balloting  –  Purpose:  to  add  specific  processes  to  the  bylaw  as  regarding  electronic  balloting  at  Kiwanis  International  conventions.    It  is  the  I-‐Next  club  proposal  to  set  rules  in  the  bylaws  for  procedures  of  checks  and  balances  to  verify  that  the  electronic    ballot  count  agrees  with  delegates  present.    According  to  the  Kiwanis  International  board  this  could  create  difficulty  in  voting  and  could  result  in  the  need  to  use  paper  ballots  or  totally  prevent  the  voting  all  together.    The  International  Board  feels  some  of  the  proposed  safeguards  are  already  in  place  and  thus  there  is  no  need  to  put  them  in  the  bylaws.    I  guess  my  thought  is  the  KISS  method.    I  believe  last  year  convention  used  the  electronic  voting.

Jerry  &  Lesa  Miller  were  at  that  convention  and  could  give  a  little  more  incite  on  this  method  of  voting.    I  am  sure  the  results  were  received  much  quicker  than  the  amount  of  time  required  to  count  paper  ballots.    Submitted  by  the  Kiwanis  club  I-‐Next  of  ohio       N O T E ;     I f   y o u   w a n t     a d d i t i o n a l   d e t a i l e d     i n f o r m a t i o n   a b o u t   t h e     a m e n dm e n t s   g o   t o   t h e     K i w a n i s   I n t e r n a t i o n a l  w e b s i t e   a n d   c l i c k   o n   C o n v e n t i o n   a t   t h e  t o p   o f   t h e   w e b s i t e ,     U n d e r   c o n v e n t i o n  c l i c k   o n   E x p e r i e n c e   t h e n   g o   t o  A m e n dm e n t s   a n d   R e s o l u t i o n   P r o p o s a l s  t h e n   c l i c k   o n   d o w n l o a d   p r o p o s e d  a m e n dm e n t s .   W h a t   I   h a v e   p r e s e n t e d   i s   m y  i n t e r p r e t a t i o n s   a n d   t h o u g h t s .   Y o u r  i n t e r p r e t a t i o n s   m i g h t   b e   d i f f e r e n t .                                      I  did  not  intend  for  this  issue  of  the  Monday  News  to  be  sooo  long  and  late  in  the  week  to  send  it  to  you.    But  I  did  get  the  deck  sealed  before  the  rains  came  and  our  grandson  was  available  to  help  me.    Now  the  grass  is  overgrown  and  I  am  tired.    So  to  all  a  good  night.          R E M I N D E R         No  meeting  on  Memorial  Day           Monday  May  30th
