The Lord God is my help, therefore I am not disgraced.
— Isaiah 50:7
Dear People of St. Patrick, This past week we remembered and prayed for the three thousand people who were killed on September
11, 2001 due to hate, anger, power struggle and other immoral thinking. This week we buried a Highway
Patrol Officer who was doing his job to protect others and keep people safe. We may never know why the
killer thought it was alright to kill an innocent person.
We read about mass killings here in America and within our towns and cities. The influence of Satan is
very much around us, evil is taking root in the hearts of many. We see people crying and suffering the loss of
their loved ones. We see those who think it is okay to murder a fetus in the womb of a women at anytime.
People who think it is alright to murder, cause physical pain and rape, have taken on the role of God in who
can live and who can die. How do we deal with this in our lives?
We should remember the words of Jesus to Peter in the Gospel today, “Get behind me Satan. You are
thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.”
When human beings no longer value human life at all stages, then we shall see more murders, beatings
and other horrible crimes. We do have a role model in Jesus Christ, who took up His cross and died on it to
save every human being born into this world. But, when human beings do not think like God does, we see the
rise in hate, murder and the infliction of pain and suffering on our brothers and sisters. We must have hope
and our faith must be carried out in good works for others.
Last week, the youth of our parish put on a benefit concert to raise $5,000.00 to help the flood victims in
the Philippines. The youth showed us that they can value life and can see the need to help one another when
in need. All the teachings and values handed on to our youth by their parents, the Catholic Church and those
who work hard to instill the values of Christ in them give us great hope that the work of Christ is still alive in
our world. It is alive in each one of us here today?
God Bless, Fr. Larry Young Pastor

STEWARDSHIP CORNER
GET INVOLVED. ADVOCATE. SHARE. CONTRIBUTE.
TIME ~ TALENT ~ TREASURE
In the second reading today, St. James has harsh words for those who do not put their faith into action. May we be good stewards of God’s gifts to us that we can never be accused of having “faith that does nothing in practice.”
ALTAR SOCIETY CORNER
Our biennial Italian Dinner (not a spaghetti dinner) will be held on Saturday, October 13 in the parish hall. This dinner is homemade by parishioner Bill Fernando and consists of sausage & peppers, pasta, salad and rolls. Appetizers and dessert will be provided by Altar Society members. The price of tickets remains at $25 for adults, $12 for children 6 to 12, and 5 and under are free. This is a family affair, no music or dancing, just time to spend together and visit. It is also our biggest fundraiser for church projects. Please mark your calendars. Tickets are available after each Mass.
Peter’s Pence Collection
Today we support the Holy Father in his charitable works. The Peter’s Pence Collection is taken up worldwide to support the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters and others in need of emergency assistance. Pope Benedict XVI has said, “It is necessary above all that every person be motivated by the authentic spirit of peace” (Homily, January 1, 2011). Cast the peace of Christ upon the word - please be generous in today’s collection.
