It’s wonderful to back after four weeks leave. Throughout my absence it
has been pleasing to see our students engaging in many exciting learn-
ing opportunities such as the Halogen Leadership excursion, WLA De-
bating workshop co-ordinated by Mr Burnett, Healthy Harold and the
Hip Hop Dance Workshop. SRC have also been busy with Mrs Smith
and Mrs Meredith organising Pancake Day and St Patrick’s Day activi-
ties.
I would like to thank all staff for ensuring our school continues to be a
stimulating learning environment. I would especially like to show appre-
ciation to Miss Burford for her outstanding school leadership. The com-
bined responsibilities of teaching and leading whole school manage-
ment can be challenging however I have great confidence in Miss Bur-
ford’s proven ability to successfully support and lead our school com-
munity.
Please read the attached information concerning COVID -19. Our
school is following all Department of Education’s recommendations and
responses to this situation. We are focused on implementing a range of
strategies to reduce transmission, including the promotion of personal
hygiene measures (handwashing, reducing face contact, cough eti-
quette), physical distancing, reducing mass gatherings and reducing
the mixing of students (e.g. cancelling inter-school activities).
Please read the newsletter carefully for updates / postponements of
planned excursions and events.
We are also asking students and staff who are unwell to stay at home.
If your child is unable to attend school, teachers will provide suitable
work to ensure their learning needs continue to be met while absent. If
you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact
me.

Leisa McMahon

Students in years 5 & 6 had a great time in Sydney
while attending the Halogen Young Leaders Con-
ference.
Students had the opportunity to engage in sight
seeing activities, including a walk around Circular
Quay and the Sydney Opera House.
Maroubra Beach was also on the agenda. It was a
great day for the beach, with students playing ball
games and walking along the shoreline.
The guest speakers at the conference shared their
inspirational experiences, with a common theme
resounding, ‘resilience and determination’.
Students had the opportunity to not only listen to
the guest speakers, but to also meet them
throughout the day.
A big thank you to all who made this excursion
possible, particularly Maroubra Public School for
allowing us to use their facilities overnight. We’re
hoping to have this opportunity again in 2021.
There are a number of High School taster days
previously planned that have now been post-
poned. These include Tamworth High School on
Wednesday 25 March and Farrer Agricultural High
School on Wednesday 18 March. We have been
advised that new dates will be provided in due
course.
There is no change to the after school sport pro-
gram and it will continue as planned on Wednes-
day afternoon’s.
Shyamla visited our school last Wednesday to
teach and share her knowledge of music and
dance from around the world. Students had the
opportunity to learn some hip hop and Bollywood
moves to a range of music and games.
This Friday we had planned to attend Harmony
Day at Duri Public School. This event has been
postponed. We will continue classes as normal on
Friday.
Please see attached note in regards to redistribu-
tion or return of money paid and return to school
ASAP for processing.

We’d like to wish Amba Graham good luck in the
next round of the CWA Group cooking competi-
tion. Amba won first place at the end of last year in
the CWA cooking competition and will submit her
entry to be judged this Thursday 19 March 2020. If
she places in this round, Amba will go on to bake
in the State round.
This years kindy class will feature in the Northern
Daily Leaders Kindergarten photos due out on
Thursday 28 March 2020. If Kindy parents would
like a copy of the photo please contact the office.
Tuesday 17 March is St Patrick’s Day. To cele-
brate, the SRC are holding a Colouring in Compe-
tition and dress up day. Entry into the colouring in
competition is by gold coin donation and en-
tries will be judged at school for their creativity and
effort. Students can dress up in green (extra
brownie points for those adding an Irish flair!) with
a gold coin donation. All money raised will go to-
wards the SRC’s fundraising efforts for the year.
Students are reminded that the whole of the
school grounds including the oval, sandpit, old
school residence and buildings are included in the
Inclosed Lands Protection Act. Which prohibits by
law, the entry onto grounds without the permission
of the Principal.
No one should enter the school grounds after
hours without permission. This includes both
current and previous students, families and mem-
bers of the community.
