Year 12 Art Exhibition
The Year 12 Student Arts showcase opening night was a great success and we would like to thank the efforts of
students, the timely support of parents and Visual Arts and Creative Arts teacher Judith Coverdale and Lucy Stewart
Design and Technology teacher for their dedication to this year’s student group.
With a mix of personal themes from Identity to environmental issues and detailed observations of family connections
to natures truths. The diversity of technique was also amazing with digital illustration, photographic montages, to
pastel and pencil drawings becoming the medium of choice to reveal each concept.
Congratulations to the success of all the Year 12 students with a specific mention of the selection of student works for
the SACE Arts Show - Adelaide 2016 and the NT Exit Art Show - Darwin 2016, chosen for their insightfulness into the
chosen theme, unusual composition and rendered finish. Selected pieces are shown below.

An International Career in the Making
International College of Hotel Management’s (ICHM) Careers Counsellor, Tessa Rochfort, visits Centralian Senior
College each August to provide information about their tertiary study options, training facilities, Australian and
worldwide industry placements. Staff member Laryssa Montgomery is a ICHM graduate and former student Courtney
Hodge is currently studying at IHCM. 2015 graduates Maxim Buckley and Erika Hamilton have been offered places in
2016.
Tessa recently announced that Erika Hamilton has won the Swiss Hotel Association ICHM Australian Scholarship for
2016. She wrote, ”Erika presented herself beautifully and spoke articulately about her goals for her career and was
able to identify her strengths and the wonderful gifts she can bring to this incredible international business career. A
sterling effort by a wonderful student from a great school!”
Erika Hamilton is on her way to her dream career as Front-of-House Manager in an international hotel, after picking up
a $20,000 scholarship to the International College of Hotel Management (ICHM).
The 18 year old will head to Adelaide and the ICHM campus in July next year, joining students from as many as 20
countries studying for two degrees over the next four years.
The Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management) and Bachelor of International Hotel Management (Swiss Hotel
Association) are made up of four academic semesters, 1500 hours of industry placement and proficiency in a second
language.
For every six months on campus, Erika will undertake paid industry
placements, which in January 2017 could take her anywhere in Australia and
from second year anywhere in the world.
A student exchange to England for four months in 2013 gave Erika a taste of
international travel, before that she says she didn’t know what she wanted to
do after leaving school.
‘’The trip highlighted a strong pull to live outside Australia and discover what
the world could show me’, she says.
Erika, along with Maxim Buckley attended ICHM’s Career Week in 2014, which
gave them insight into the program and the benefits of living and working in
other countries.
‘I believe the large amount of placements as well as the practical learning that
ICHM offers will benefit me as I am a hands-on learner and thrive on learning
through experience’, she says.
Since it was established in 1993, ICHM has awarded scholarships worth in excess of $2.5 million. Erika is one of three
Australian students from 50 applicants to be awarded a scholarship in 2016, after rating highly in a written assignment
and panel interview. Other winners are from Queensland and South Australia.
ICHM is widely regarded as one of the best hotel schools in the world and the majority of graduates are now in five-
star hotels throughout Australia and overseas, many as general managers. ICHM is the only Swiss Hotel Association
campus in the Southern Hemisphere. Australian students are eligible for Fee-Help. For any more information please

Congratulations Erika. Centralian Senior College wishes you, and all Year 12’s of 2015, every success

Girls Academy and Polly Farmer Adelaide Trip
Students from the “Follow the Dream” – Polly Farmer program and Centralian Girls Academy recently visited Adelaide
as part of a rewards and Career exploration trip. The students had an excellent time visiting the Adelaide Zoo,
Museum and Art Gallery. They indulged in chocolate from Haigh’s – an Adelaide icon and toured their chocolate
factory. They enjoyed the BOUNCEinc experience (a wonderful trampoline facility) and many had a go at ice-skating –
others found it “just too cold”.
We visited Flinders and Adelaide Universities as well as three campuses from UNI SA. The students were impressed
with the facilities and courses on offer at all three Universities. The experience also highlighted the requirements
needed for university entry. The buildings were also very impressive and modern. There was a range of activities and
lectures that the students participated in.
The highlight for many was attending the Sam Smith concert and the look on the student’s faces when he appeared
on stage was priceless.
Overall a great trip away with many learning opportunities and the chance to participate in new and rewarding
experiences.
