Monday 1 June 2020
From the Principal's Desk
As announced on Monday 18 May 2020, all NSW public schools returned to face-to-face teaching from
Monday 25 May 2020 in line with Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) guidelines
and NSW Health advice. It is wonderful to see students engaging in their learning with teachers and their
school pals. Staff and students are very aware of enhanced hygiene and leaning practices and continue to
put these practices into place each and every day. I would like to thank parents for supporting their
children with learning from home. I would also like to thank the teaching staff for the colossal effort in
moving from full-time face-to-face teaching to full-time learning from home and online teaching in 48
hours. We have remarkable staff with a commitment to helping all students achieve success in their
learning.
Included in this newsletter is a guide for parents and carers outlining the practices and activities for NSW
school students returning to face-to-face learning.
We are able to attend local facilities like the recreation oval and we will be using the oval and tennis courts
for sport this term. We will not be using the toilet facilities.
Have a fantastic long weekend for the Queen’s Birthday on Monday 8 June 2020.
Warm regards,
Charmaine Johnston

K-2 All Stars News
It is so lovely to have all of the All Stars back in the classroom ready and eager to continue their learning at school. They are
settling into our old routines nicely, as well as into our new COVID-19 ones surrounding hygiene, and are working hard towards
their personal learning goals. A big thank you to Mrs Koppel and our wonderful Student Learning Support Officers who have
given us extra support over the past few weeks as we have settled back into school.
We also welcome Mrs Dight to our classroom on a regular basis this term. It will be wonderful to have extra teacher support for
our students as we continue to reset into learning at school again. Mrs Dight will also be teaching the students our One School
Geography unit and some coding this term.
The All Stars have shown their amazing ability to adapt yet again this past week as we had a temporary relocation to the
Learning Centre while the roof on the classroom was replaced and some repairs made. It looks great!
Lastly- a huge shout out and thank you to all our parents. You gave Learning from Home such a red hot go! It wasn’t an easy time for any of us - students, parents or teachers. As useful as they were to maintain contact, Zoom and FaceTime calls just
weren’t the same for me as seeing and teaching my students face to face. On the positive side we have all learnt new skills and used new programs - some of which we will continue to utilise.
Stay safe and stay well.

National Simultaneous Storytime was back for its 20th year! On Wednesday we headed into the world of
Whitney and Britney the Chicken Divas! YPS students and staff joined in this amazing event, listening to
the story being read with millions of other children. We also made clay Whitney and Britney chickens and
glittery microphones.
"Whitney and Britney are two gorgeous chooks who live alongside Dora von Dooze. But Dora is perplexed - why do her dear chickens seem to sleep all day long? Dora decides to snoop. She follows the chooks out at night to the local jazz club where she discovers, to her amazement, that they are Whitney and Britney: Chicken Divas!" Written and Illustrated By: Lucinda Gifford.
Enjoying colouring in the enclosed Whitney and Britney pictures.
