LETTER FROM CHIEF EDITOR TOMOHYAL YOUTH

Dear brothers, sisters & young friends,31st march 2013 is a Red Letter Day for M.S Khanna who had organised 6th

Matrimonial Mela in association will other sabhas of Punjab, Haryana,Chandigarh under the aegis of GMS. It was agrand get-to-gather of eligible boys& girls ofmarriageable age. It was very well organizedunder the leadership of the Sh. Vinod Dutt,President of Mohyal Sabha Khanna & his teamof dedicated workers. It was fabulous in everyaspect recept ions of guests, seat ingarrangements, breakfast, lunch, culturalprogramme, Medical check-up etc. Shri G.S BaliMinister of Transport of Himachal Pradesh wasthe Chief Guest & General B.K.N Chhibber &Air vice Marsal, S.D Mohan were guests ofhonour. Almost over 1200 guest, attended thisfunction, and all were very well looked after. There was registration of around 500 eligibleboys & girls, whose parents had submitted dataof their wards and about 70 contracts for one to one meeting were madeand hopefully out of above at least 20-25 cases would be materlised. Our kudos to Shri Vinod Dutt & his team of workers, who have worked for 3-4 months for preparing data by contacts. Of course Smt. Krishan LataChhibber Secretary of Matrimonial Committee of GMS. Played a significantrole in helping to organize this mela.I would like to share another big news that our Vinod Dutta of Khanna ayoung Enterpreneur to initiate Dairy Products Industry in Punjab washonoured with National Award of the Year 2011 on April 03, 2013 which hasmade community proud. He was also felicitated by the GMS ExecutiveMembers in its meeting held on 14 April 2013. I and on behalf of thecommunity, extend our greetings and wish him to add more feathers to hiscap in future times to come.Talking about youth, I came across an inspiring address given by our illustriousformer President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, at a function held inChennai, in January 2013, on the topic ‘Transforming Indians to TransformIndia’. I would like to quote excerpts from the address, which can really bean inspiration to the youth of today.

Excerpt from Dr. Kalam’s Address‘The contribution of the youth in the past has continuously enriched the worldof today in many fields.’‘Swami Vivekananda said: “How has all the knowledge in the world beengained but by the concentration of the power of mind? ……. There is no limitto the power of the human mind. The more concentrated it is, the morepower is brought to bear on one point. That is the secret”.‘History has proven that those who dare to imagine the impossible are theones, who break all human limitations. In every field of human endeavour, whether science, medicine, sports, the arts or technology, the names of thepeople who imagined the impossible are engraved in our history. By breakingthe limits of their imagination, they changed the world.’Examples are very many. ‘When we look up and see the electric bulbs, weare immediately reminded of Thomas Alva Edison for his unique contributiontowards the invention of the electric bulb and the electrical lighting system’.‘When we hear the sound of the aeroplane flying over our head, whom dowe think of? The Wright brothers, who proved that man could fly; of course,

at heavy risk and cost’. Similarly, ‘the telephone remindsyou of Alexander Graham Bell’.‘A great human being with a spirit of service, who also wona Nobel Prize for her contributions, was Mother Teresa. She said and practiced, “Give, give and give – until it hurts”.Dr Kalam said that, over a decade’s time, he had met 15million youth and learnt that “Every youth wants to beunique, that is – YOU! But the world around you is doingits best, day and night, to make you just everybody else.At home, you are asked by your parents to be like yourneighbour’s children and score good marks. When you goto school, your teachers ask you why you can’t becomelike the first five rankers in your class. Wherever you go,they say you have to be like somebody else, everybodyelse! Now, how many of the youth would like to be unique– YOURSELF?The challenge is that you have to fight the hardest battlewhich any human being can ever imagine, and never stopfighting until you arrive at your destined place, that is – aunique YOU!Your Tools to fight the battle and achieve the Goal! -Four Proven Steps to Success:1. Having an aim in life before 20 years of age.2. Acquiring knowledge continuously.3. Hard work towards the aim.4. Perseverance to defeat the problems and succeed.Dr. Kalam to his youthful audience: “This is how all uniquepersonalities evolved and this is how all of you cantransform yourself into a unique YOU. Above all, you musthave the will power and confidence that you can achievegreat deeds. In this connection, Dr. Kalam recalled the famous versesof the 13th century Persian Sufi poet Jalaluddin Rumi:I am born with potential.I am born with goodness and trust.I am born with ides and dreams.I am born with greatness.I am born with confidence.I am born with wings. So, I am not meant for crawling.I have wings, I will fly.I will fly and fly.Education gives you wings to fly. Achievements come outof the fire in your subconscious mind that “I will win”. Soeach one of you will have ‘Wings of Fire’, which will indeedlead to knowledge, which will help you to fly – as a doctor,as an engineer, or a scientist or a teacher, or a politicalleader, or a bureaucrat, or a diplomat, or anything you wantto be.I would urge the youth of today, especially the Mohyal youth,to follow the inspiring advice of Dr. Abdul Kalam and bringout the potential in you and become a unique YOU – andnot just anybody else!(You may also recall that, in one of the earlier issues ofMohyal Mitter, Shri B.M. Datta of Janakpuri had given abrilliant suggestion as to how the Mohyal youth and childrencould be encouraged to take part in the community’sactivities. He had put forth the suggestion of having

competitions in sports, cultural items, etc, first at the localsabha level; then for the local sabha level winners, at thelevel of a group of neighbouring local sabhas; and finally, amongst the group winners, at the apex body level. Thissuggestion, excellent though it was, never really took offnor followed up. Now is the appropriate time to make abeginning to implement the suggestion, as the children &youth will be having their annual vacation and a lot of freetime. I expect our dynamic Secretary Youth Affairs to initiateaction in this regard.)Jai Mohyal !

HARDINGE BOMBCASE - SHAHEEDBHAI BAL MUKANDCHHIBBERBorn on 07.09.1889 (ShivaratriDay),at village Karyala, Dist.Jhelum, Bhai Bal Mukand, thedoyen of martyrs, graduatedfrom the DAV College, Lahore, and passed his B.T.Examination in 1910 in the 3rdposit ion. He joined as ateacher in the Albert VictorAnglo Sanskrit High SchoolAbbottabad.Impelled by patriotism, he gaveup the job and joined handswith Lala Lajpat Rai, Shri RashBihari Bose formed the InqilabiParty. Bhai Bal Mukand wasgiven the charge of NorthernIndia. He was trained alongwithAvadh Bihari for disseminationof seditious literature and inthrowing of bombs. A plan washatched to throw a bomb, on23.12.1912, when the ViceroyLord Hardinge was to visitDelhi, for the inauguration ofthe new imperial capital ofIndia. On that day, when theprocession with the Viceroy, riding an elephant, reachedChandni Chowk, Delhi, nearthe Clock Tower, Bhai BalMukand and Basant Biswas, wearing veils, mixed with thelady spectators, and hurled abomb on the Viceroy. But thebomb missed its target and, instead, killed the mahout ofthe elephant. Bhai Bal Mukandand Basant Biswas escapedundetected. The police were in hot pursuitafter them and arrested AvadhBihari Bose, on 19 Feb 1914,and Basant Biswas, on 26 Feb1914, in Calcutta. Lala AmirChand was also arrested. BhaiBal Mukand was arrested, on10 March 1914.The trial opened in theSessions Court, on 21.5.1914,and by the Judgment, delivered on 05.10.1914, BhaiBal Mukand, Lala Amir Chand

and Avadh Bihari Bose werecondemned to death. Anappeal made to the PrivyCouncil was rejected, on1.5.1915. The heroes werehanged to death, on 8.5.1915,in the old Central Jail of Delhi, where the Maulana AzadMedical College is located, atpresent. Their bodies were nothanded over to their families.Another example of sacrificewas set by Bhai Bal Mukand’swife, Smt. Ram Rakhi. She hadcome to meet her husband injail, during the period of his trialand seen that he had beenkept in a dark cell, with no bed, with only one blanket, provided, during the severewinter; and given only barleyChapatis to eat. On returningto her village, she adopted thesame living style. When shecame to know that her husbandwas to be hanged, she stoppedeating and died the same day, when he was hanged. She tiedher dupatta with thehandkerchief of her husbandbefore dying.Indeed, the nation is proud ofsuch great martyrs and cannotforget the sacrifices of theheroes during the IndianFreedom Movement. The Delhi Government hasinstalled a marble plaque at thespot of his martyrdom. TheSarvodaya Vidyalaya, behindthe Indraprastha College inDelhi, has been named afterBhai Bal Mukand by the DelhiGovernment.Contributed by: G.L. Datta ‘Josh’
