• In the year 1913, England physicist Henry Moseley concluded from ananalysis of x-ray spectrums that the atomic number of an element is morecapable of showing the properties of that element than the atomic massof an element. | वर्ष 1913 में इंग्लैण्ड के भौतिक ववज्ञानी हेनरी मोजलले ने x—ककरण स्पेक्टरमों के ववश्लेर्ण से यह तनष्कर्ष तनकाला कक, ककसी ित्व के परमाणुद्रव्यमान की िुलना में उसका परमाणु क्रमांक उस ित्व के गुणों को दर्ाषने में अधिकसक्षम है।

• On this basis, the modern periodic law was introduced by amending theperiodic rule propounded by Mendeleev. According to this rule, thephysical and chemical properties of elements are the recurring functionsof their atomic numbers. | इस आिार पर, मेण्डलेीफ द्वारा प्रतिपाददि आविषतनयम में संर्ोिन करके आिुतनक आविष तनयम प्रस्िुि ककया गया। इस तनयम केअनुसार ित्वों के भौतिक एवं रासायतनक गुणिमष उनके परमाणु क्रमांकों के आविीफलन होिे है।
• The modern periodic table ismuch more comprehensive,logical and simplified thanthe Mendeleev's periodictable, with 118 elementsclassified. That is why it iscalled the long form of theperiodic table. | आिुतनकआविष सारणी मेण्डलेीफ कीआविष सारणी की िुलना मेंअत्यंि व्यापक, िाककष क एवंसरलीकृि है, जजलसमें 118 ित्ववगीकृि हैं। इसीललए इसे आविषसारणी का दीर्ष स्वरूप कहाजलािा है।

• Periodic and square: The modern periodic table is divided into 7 horizontal rows and 18 verticalcolumns. The horizontal rows are called periodic and the vertical columns are called squares. Thus,there are 7 periods and 18 squares in the periodic table. | आविष एवं वगष : आिुतनक आविष सारणी 7 कै्षतिजलपंजक्टियों िथा 18 ऊर्धवाषिर स्िम्भों में ववभाजजलि है। क्षैतिजल पंजक्टियों को आविष कहा जलािा है िथा ऊर्धवाषिर स्िम्भोंको वगष कहा जलािा है। इस प्रकार आविष सारणी में 7 आविष एवं 18 वगष है।

• Elements that have the same number of electrons in theoutermost orbit of the atom are placed in the sameclass. This is why, all elements of a class have the samemain properties. | ऐसे ित्व, जजलनमें परमाणु की बाह्िम ् कक्षामें इलेक्टरॉनों की संख्या समान है, उन्हे एक ही वगष में रखा गयाहै। यही कारण है कक, एक वगष के सभी ित्वों के मुख्य गुणसमान होिे है।

• The first period consists of 2 elements, 8-8 elements inthe second and third periods, 18-18 elements in thefourth and fifth periods and 32 elements in the sixthperiod. While the seventh category is incomplete. | प्रथमआविष में 2 ित्व, दसूरे और िीसरे आविष में 8-8 ित्व, चौथेऔर पााँचवे आविष में 18-18 ित्व िथा छठे आविष में 32 ित्वसजम्मललि है। जलबकक सािवााँ वगष अपूणष है।
• The third class of the sixth period contains 15 elementsranging from atomic numbers 57 to 71, which are calledlanthanoids. Similarly, elements of the atomic number89 to 103 of the third square of the seventh periodinclude elements called actinoids. | छठे आविष के िीसरेवगष में परमाणु क्रमाकं 57 से 71 िक के 15 ित्व सजम्मललि हैं,जजलन्हे लैन्थेनॉइड्स कहा जलािा है। इसी प्रकार, सािवें आविष केिीसरें वगष के परमाणु क्रमांक 89 से 103 िक के ित्वसजम्मललि है, जजलन्हे ऐजक्टिनॉइड्स कहा जलािा है।

• Elements present in the same periodexhibit a definite trend in atomicradius, ionization energy, electronaffinity, and electronegativity. In aperiod, moving from left to right, theatomic radius of the elementsdecreases and ionization energy andelectrical indebtedness increase. |एक ही आविष में उपजस्थि ित्व परमाणुत्रिज्या, आयनीकरण ऊजलाष, इलेक्टरॉन बंिुिा,िथा ववद्युि ऋणात्मकिा में एक तनजश्चिप्रववृि प्रदधिि करिे हैं। एक आविष में बाएाँसे दाएाँ जलाने पर ित्वों की परमाणु त्रिज्यामें कमी आिी है िथा आयनीकरण ऊजलाषएवं ववद्युि ऋणात्मकिा में वदृ्धि होिीहै।

• The energy released when adding anelectron to a neutral atom to convert itinto a negative ion is called theelectron affinity or electron bondingenthalpy of that element. Generally,the electron affinity of non-metallicelements is higher than the metallicelements. | ककसी उदासीन परमाणु कोऋणात्मक आयन में पररवतिषि करने के ललएउसमें एक इलेक्टरॉन जलोड़ने पर जलो ऊजलाषमुक्टि होिी है, उसे उस ित्व की इलेक्टरॉनबंिुिा अथवा इलेक्टरॉन लजधि एंथलै्पी कहाजलािा है। सामान्यि : अिाजत्वक ित्वों कीइलेक्टरॉन बंिुिा िाजत्वक ित्वों से अधिकहोिी है।

• Moving from left to right in the periodic table there is anincrease in the electronegativity of the elements and there is adecrease in the electronegativity from the top to the bottom inthe squares. | आविष सारणी में बायी से दायी ओर जलाने पर ित्वों कीववद्युि ऋणात्मकिा में वदृ्धि होिी है िथा वगों में ऊपर से नीचे कीओर ववद्युि ऋणात्मकिा में कमी आिी है।
• Example: Fluorine has the highest electronegativity andFrancium has the lowest electronegativity. | उदाहरण : फ्लोरीन कीववद्युि ऋणात्मकिा सवाषधिक िथा फ्ांलसयम की ववद्युि ऋणात्मकिासबसे कम होिी है।

• The electronic configuration of the elements reflects their chemicalproperties. Elements, which have the same number of electrons in theoutermost shell and their distribution, are placed in the same class. | ित्वोंका इलेक्टरॉतनक ववन्यास उनके रासायतनक गुणों को दर्ाषिा है। ऐसे ित्व, जजलनकेबाह्यिम कोर् में इलेक्टरॉनों की संख्या एवं उनका वविरण एक—समान है, उन्हे एकही वगष में रखा गया है।
PERIODIC CLASSIFICATION OF ELEMENTSर्त् वों का आवर्ी वर्गीकरण
• All elements are divided into 4 blocks, depending on which orbital of theelement in which the valence electrons are filled. They are summarized asfollows - | ककसी ित्व के संयोजली इलेक्टरॉन ककस कक्षक में भरे जलािे हैं, इस आिारपर सभी ित्वों को 4 धलॉक्टस में ववभाजजलि ककया गया है। इनका संक्षक्षप्ि वववरण इसप्रकार हैं—

• The s-block includes elements whose valenceelectrons enter the s-orbital. Under this, all theelements and helium of class 1 and class 2 of theperiodic table are included. | S-धलॉक के अन्िगषिउन ित्वों को सजम्मललि ककया गया है, जजलनके संयोजलीइलेक्टरॉन s-कक्षक में प्रवेर् करिे हैं। इसके अन्िगषिआविष सारणी के वगष 1 एवं वगष 2 के सभी ित्व िथाहीललयम को सजम्मललि ककया जलािा है।

s-block elementss-ब् लॉक के र्त् व• All elements of the s-block are metals. They are shiny,
white and conductor of heat and electricity. They easilygive their electrons, hence they are included in the mostactive elements of the periodic table. | S—धलॉक के सभीित्व िािुएाँ हैं। ये चमकीले, श्वेि िथा ऊष्मा एवं ववद्युि केसुचालक होिे हैं। ये सरलिा से अपने इलेक्टरॉन त्योग देिे हैं,इसीललए इन्हे आविष सारणी के सबसे कक्रयार्ील ित्वों में सजम्मललिककया जलािा है।
s-block elementss-ब् लॉक के र्त् व• The elements of class 1 are collectively called alkaline metals which react
with water to liberate H2 gas and form hydroxides. Elements of class 2 arecollectively called alkaline soil metals. The oxides and hydroxides of theseelements are alkaline and are found in the crust. | S—वगष 1 के ित्वों कोसामूदहक रूप से क्षारीय िािुएाँ कहा जलािा है जलो जलल के साथ अलभकक्रया कर H2 गैसमुक्टि करके हाइड्रॉक्टसाड्स का तनमाषण करिी है। वगष 2 के ित्वों को सामूदहक रूप सेक्षारीय मदृा िािुएाँ कहा जलािा है। इन ित्वों के ऑक्टसाइड्स और हाइड्रॉक्टसाइड क्षारीयहोिे हैं और भूपपषिी में पाए जलािे हैं।
p-block elementsp-ब् लॉक के र्त् व• The p-block includes elements
whose valence electrons enterthe p-orbit. Under this, allelements from class 13 to class18 are included in the periodictable. | p—धलॉक के अन्िगषि उनित्वों को सजम्मललि ककया गया है,जजलनके संयोजली इलेक्टरॉन p—कक्षकमें प्रवेर् करिे है। इसके अन्िगषिआविष सारणी के वगष 13 से वगष 18िक के सभी ित्वों को सजम्मललिककया गया है।
p-block elementsp-ब् लॉक के र्त् व• The p-block contains all kinds of elements of metal nonmetal and sub-
metal. Metals of this class react with non-metals to form ioniccompounds. | p—धलॉक के अन्िगषि िािु अिािु एवं उपिािु सभी प्रकार के ित्वसजम्मललि हैं। इस वगष की िािुएाँ, अिािुओं के साथ अलभकक्रया करके आयतनकयौधगकों का तनमाषण करिी है।
• Most elements of a p-block are non-metals, which are not conductors ofheat and electricity. They have low boiling point and do not give upelectrons easily. Bromine added to this class is found in the liquid state atnormal temperatures. | p—धलॉक के अधिकिर ित्व अिािु हैं, जलो ऊष्मा एवंववद्युि के सुचालक नहीं होिे हैं। इनका क्टवथनांक तनम्न होिा है िथा ये सरलिा सेइलेक्टरॉन्स का त्याग नहीं करिे है। इस वगष में सजम्मललि ब्रोमीन सामान्य िाप परद्रव अवस्था में पाया जलािा है।
d-block elementsd-ब् लॉक के र्त् व• The connective electrons of the elements contained
under the d-block are filled in the d-orbit. It includes allthe elements from class 3 to class 12. | d—धलॉक केअन्िगषि सजम्मललि ित्वों के संयोजली इलेक्टरॉन d—कक्षक में भरेजलािे हैं। इसके अंिगषि वगष 3 से वगष 12 िक के सभी ित्वों कोसजम्मललि ककया गया है।
• The d-block is located between the s-block and p-block inthe periodic table, so the elements involved in it arecalled transition elements. But mercury, zinc, copper andscandium are not the ingredients. | d—धलॉक, आविष सारणीमें s—धलॉक िथा p—धलॉक के मर्धय जस्थि है, इसललए इसमेंसजम्मल ित्वों को संक्रमण ित्व कहा जलािा है। परन्िु पारा,जलस्िा, िॉबंा िथा स्कैडडयम संक्रमण ित्व नहीं हैं।
d-block elementsd-ब् लॉक के र्त् व• All elements of d-block are metals, which are more functional than
elements of s-block and less reactive than p-block elements. Theseelements exhibit properties of high tensile strength, shockability, elasticityheat and conductivity of electricity. | d—धलॉक के सभी ित्व िािुएाँ हैं, जलो s—धलॉक के ित्वों की िुलना में अधिक कक्रयार्ील एवं p—धलॉक के ित्वों की िुलना मेंकम कक्रयार्ील होिी है। ये ित्व उच्च िन्यिा र्जक्टि आर्ािवद्षिनीयिा, लोचर्ीलिाऊष्मा एवं ववद्युि की सुचालकिा आदद गुण प्रदलर्षि करिे हैं।
• The ions of the elements of the d-block are often colored and these ionsare used as catalysts to speed up the reactions at various oxidation states.| d—धलॉक के ित्वों के आयन प्राय: रंगीन होिे हैं िथा ये आयन ववलभन्नऑक्टसीकरण अवस्थाओं में अलभकक्रयाओं की गति बढाने के ललए उत्पे्ररक के रूप मेंप्रयोग ककए जलािे हैं।
f-block elementsf-ब् लॉक के र्त् व• The elements included in the 2 horizontal rows at
the bottom of the periodic table are called f-blockelements. The connective electrons of all theseelements are found in their f-orbitals. | आविषसारणी में सबसे नीचे जस्थि 2 क्षतैिजल पंजक्टियों मेंसजम्मललि ित्वों को f—धलॉक ित्व कहा जलािा है। इनसभी ित्वों के संयोजली इलेक्टरॉन उनके f—कक्षक में पाएजलािे है।
f-block elementsf-ब् लॉक के र्त् व• The elements of f-block are actually located in periodic 6 and 7 and class 3
between s-block and d-block, hence they are called internal transition elements.|f—धलॉक के ित्व वास्िववक रूप में s—धलॉक एवं d—धलॉक के मर्धय आविष 6 एवं 7 िथा वगष3 में जस्थि हैं, इसीललए इन्हे आंिररक संक्रमण ित्व कहा जलािा है।
• All elements of the f-block are metals. Elements of the actinoid class are morecomplex than elements in the lanthanoid category. Elements of the actinoidcategory are radioactive. All subsequent elements of uranium in this category havebeen synthesized in the laboratory by scientists, hence these elements are calledtransuranium elements.| f—धलॉक के सभी ित्व िािुएाँ हैं। लैन्थेनॉइड िेणी के ित्वों कीअपेक्षा एजक्टिनॉइड िेणी के ित्व अधिक जलदिल होिे है। एजक्टिनॉइड िेणी के ित्व रेडडयोसकक्रयहोिे हैं। इस िेणी में यूरेतनयम के बाद के सभी ित्व वैज्ञातनकों द्वारा प्रयोगर्ाला में संश्लेवर्िककए गए है, इसललए इन ित्वों को रांसयूरेतनयम ित्व कहा जलािा है।
