INTRODUCTION

Nawras Internet: “N aw ras Internet” M odem is a device designed for data transmission via the GSM

Network. The design of this modem enables the connection to your PC through USB interface. Once the modem is connected to the PC, you can access the Internet via one of the data transm ission types that the G S M supports. “Nawras Internet” supports the following data-bearers: EDGE, GPRS, CSD, CSF, HSCSD, and SMS

“Nawras Internet” is a perfect solution to your needs helping you to be always connected wherever you are. Speed, flexibility, convenience and ease of Installation combined together to offer you to access real-time business transaction, sending/receiving of Emails, SMS, Company Intranet & databases by utilizing Nawras Edge Network.

„N aw ras Internet” is easy to install, real plug and play w ith all custom ized settings to Nawras.

It‟s an advanced solution at a reasonable price. This document will provide you with the instructions on how to install and use the

“Nawras Internet” and its software (Modem Control Tool).

2. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

2.1 Features:

Connecting your computer to the Internet via the following GSM bearers: o EDGE class 6 (up to 177,6 kbps), o GPRS class 10 (up to 56-114 kbps), o HSCSD (up to 43,2 kbps), o CSD (up to 14,4 kbps).

Dual-band: o European (and Asian) version - 900 MHz / 1800 MHz, o American version - 850 MHz / 1900 MHz.

USB 2.0 port, which is much faster than RS232, no external power supply is needed.

Send SMS quickly and easily using your PC. Integrated GSM antenna (optionally devices with an external antenna and a

connector on the housing may be ordered). 2 LE D indicators: “P ow er” and “G P R S status”. Small size. Housing dimensions (not including connectors): LxWxH 98mm x 55

mm x 20 mm. Supported OS: Microsoft Windows 98 / ME / 2000 / XP. An advanced solution for a very reasonable price.

2.2 Mechanical specifications “N aw ras Internet” M odem housing is made of plastic. One part of the housing

is covered by rubber. The external dimensions and measures of the unit are shown in picture 1.

2.3 Electrical and operating specifications Power for the modem is supplied from +5V USB interface. The device does

not require any external power. The PC to which the “Nawras Internet” m odem is connected must have a USB interface, corresponding to USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 standards.

Notice: The USB connection must support high power mode, which allows the device to use a currency of up to 500 mA from the connection.

2.4 Indication “Nawras Internet” modem has 2 LEDs for indication. They are located on the

top part of the device. Due to these indicating LEDs we can determine which mode the device is operating in. The indication status of the modem is given in the Table 3.

3. RECOMMENDED PC CONFIGURATION AND OPERATING SYSTEM SUPPORT

1. Pentium 300 MHz. 2. CD – ROM. 3. USB port. 4. 15 MB of free hard disk space. 5. Supported Operating System: Windows 98SE / ME/ 2000 /XP/2003.

3.1. Connecting to PC 1) Insert the SIM card into modem. Follow the instructions on the device

sticker. Make sure, the SIM card is pushed inside till it fixes; 2) Plug the cable to the USB connection of PC.

Notice: PLEASE DO NOT CONNECT YOUR MODEM TO USB PORT OF THE LAPTOP / PC.

FIRST INSTALL THE SOFTWARE FOR MODEM. YOU WILL BE INFORMED DURING INSTALLATION TO CONNECT IT.

3.2. Installation of “Nawras Internet” (Modem Control Tool Setup) 1) O pen the “N aw ras Internet” pack and insert the C D into the C D R O M D rive 2) The following NAWRAS Home screen will appear;

3) The installation program should start automatically. To start the installation click the “Install” button. If not, find a folder “S oftw are” on the C D and start the “setup.exe” file. T he first “M odem S etup” dialogue box w ill be opened;

4) P ress the “N ext”

5) You can select a preferable driver installation way in the dialogue box. W hen “C om plete” installation is chosen, a standard driver will be installed. W hen “C ustom ” installation is chosen, you can install separate driver components and view the driver installation folder. It is recommended to select the “C om plete” installation;

6) P ress “Install” in the opened dialog;

7) If a dialogue box appears, stating that there hasn‟t been any “W indow s Logo” testing performed for the driver, select “C ontinue A nyw ay”. A fter this selection, the appropriate files will be copied;

8) You must plug your “Nawras Internet” modem Now! After you do that, wait till system detect your new device and go to the next steps; Note: Do not press “N ext” still.

8.1) Windows XP OS will automatically detect a new device and ask to install driver. At “F ound N ew H ardw are W izard“ window, choose “N o, not this tim e“ and press button “N ext“.

8.2) Choose “Install software automatically (recom m ended)“ and press button “N ext“;

8.3) T he „H ardw are Installation” dialog box will appear. Press “C ontinue A nyw ay” button in the dialog box again. And continue installation.

Using “W indow s 2000” OS, all “M odem C ontrol T ool” installation steps are identical, with exception of appearance of “D igital S ignature N ot F ound” dialog box, where “Y es” button should be clicked;

8.4) Press “F inish” in the last opened “F ound N ew H ardw are W izard“ window;

9) Press „N ext“ now; (Proceeding further from Step 8 above)

10) Verify the below dial-up connection parameters: ISP name: Internet Phone number: *99# APN: isp.nawras.com.om User Name: test Password: test Press “N ext” in the opened dialog;

11) P ress “F inish” in the opened d ialog box “M odem C ontrol tool S etup”. T he installation is done!

3.3. Setting up an Internet connection

In this chapter we will provide you with general information and procedures necessary for setting up an Internet connection in your PC. You can find all the settings for accessing Nawras Internet by pressing “P rogram S ettings” button:

Getting connected to the Internet: R un “M odem C ontrol T ool” program from desktop or from S tart ProgramsModem

Control Tool

Modem Control Tool The program should automatically detect a connected modem. If not, press “P rogram S ettings → M odem S ettings → “Autodetect Modem” or try to change the COM port.

T o connect to the Internet, press “C onnect to Internet U sing M odem ” button:

The modem starts connecting to Internet and once connected you can see the below screen.

To Exit the program, press “D isconnect from Internet” and press “E xit P rogram ” button:

If you are not able to connect the Internet using Internet Explorer follow these steps, press “S tart → S ettings → C ontrol P anel → Internet O ptions”. Select the box “C onnections” in the appeared dialogue box “Internet P roperties”.

Select dial-up pictogram in the “Dial-up and V irtual P rivate N etw ork settings” square and press “S et D efault” button, then chose “A lw ays dial m y default connection” and press “A pply” and “O K ” buttons. Now try to connect to Internet again.

3.4. Sending Short Message Service(SMS)

1. Using “Nawras Internet” it is possible to send and receive Short Message Service (SMS).In order to utilize SMS service it is mandatory to disconnect from Internet. This will be performed by clicking on “Disconnect From Internet” button;

2. Please enter SMS Centre Number by pressing “Program Settings” and then press “SMS Settings”. You can get this number from your GSM operator. (For Nawras its +96895001016)

3. Press “Short Messages Service” button on “Modem Control Tool” window for writing and reading of SMS messages:

4. U se “N ew S M S ” tab for creating SMS. Please enter required phone number

with C ountry C ode (w ithout “+ ”or “00”) If m essage sent w as successful then you can see “Message Sent Successful” otherwise “Message Was Not Sent”;

5. P lease check “U se E xtended Language S upport” to send m essages in A rabic.

6. Incoming messages are kept under “U nread S M S ”, once read from here; it w ill

be m oved to “Inbox” folder. To delete selected message press “Delete SMS”, to delete m ore than one S M S press and hold “S hift” button on the keyboard and select SMS you want to delete.

3.5. Changing of security settings

For SIM security a unique PIN (Personal Identification Number) is used. Before starting using GSM network services, it is necessary to enter a PIN code. “Nawras Internet” supports tw o m ain G S M security m odes: “P IN R equest D isable”, “P IN R equest Enable”. W hen “P IN R equest D isable” is chosen, P IN code has to be entered just once and this w ill not be required further on w hile turning the device on. If the m ode “E nable” is chosen, the PIN code will be required each time the modem is turned on.

“Modem Control Tool” program is used for changing security settings. PIN code switching off:

1) Start “Modem Control Tool”; 2) Select “Program Settings”; 3) Select “Security Settings”; 4) Select “PIN Request Disable”; 5) Press “Update Date”;

6) On the window will open enter PIN code and press “OK”.

PIN code switching on:

1) Start “Modem Control Tool”; 2) Select “Program Settings”; 3) Select “Security Settings”; 4) Select “PIN Request Enable”; 5) Press “Update Data”,

6) On the window will open enter PIN code and press “OK”.

3.6. Settings of program language

On press “Program Settings” and “Language”, you can change the program language:

Note: by default program language is English

3.7 Choice of GSM Operators Please select your preferred GSM Operator, by pressing “Program Settings GSM O per. S election”. T he GSM Operator Selection screen will appear. Click on “G et G S M O perators List” button

3.8. Other functions of program “Modem Information”:

You will see information about your modem: developer, model, IMEI, operator and supplement information.

“About This Program”:

You can see the version and web address of Nawras On right side of “Modem Control Tool” window is GSM signal level indicator:

Please note that the signal level must be high for stable connection
