Mobile Data Collection: where do we go?
1) Ensure better data quality through control “ex ante” (skip logic, formatting control, etc.)
2) 30% decrease of delay for the collection process (cf. experience for the Mosquito Net survey in Dadaab)
3) Allow the collection of rich content (cf experience for Site Assessment in Kivu with UNOPS)
Mobile Data Collection is good...Relevance
Mobile Data Collection: where do we go?
Mobile Data Collection should always be compared to paper based data collection.
It does not fit if:1) Only a few forms have to be collected2) The data to be collected do not include rich
content (image, GPS) or are collected in one single place
3) The collection process has to be managed by a partner on which UNHCR has a limited control
4) Too many data collectors must be hired
Creation of a screening form for mobile data collection initiative...
... but not always appropriateRelevance
Mobile Data Collection: where do we go?
1. Survey = Profiling based on sample population One person is interviewed once from the first till the last question Data do not need to be updated
FOCUS: The forms must be quickly customized
2. Surveillance system = maintenance of a large number of interrelated information Different key informant visited at different times Data must be regularly updated Data must be easily exchanged Data must be analyzed in relation with a referential
FOCUS: Data model & Standard must be enforced
The context induces the technology...
