Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2017 The version found written on the wall in Mother Teresa’s home for children in Calcutta: People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selsh, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway. If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway. What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway. If you nd serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway. Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway. In the nal analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway. -this version is credited to Mother Teresa Please help me welcome our new president Melissa Hoover. I know we are in good hands. ABWA’s Miss ion Statement The Mission of the American Business Women’ Association is to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support, and national recognition.

According to the ABWA National, “Your vision statement should passionately proclaim the desired state of your Chapter when it has realized its full potential. It boldly and enthusiastically describes what your league will look, feel and act like when it has successfully achieved its goals.” With that in mind, these were the visions captured from your leadership team.

INVOCATIONLord, in the quiet of this hour,

we come to thee for wisdom and

for power; to view thy world through

only loved-fi lled eyes; to grow in

understanding to be wise, and sure to

see thy guiding light; and thus, to know

each other as thou knowest us.

Amen

BENEDICTIONO Guiding Spirit, Guardian of

our days, be with us as we go

our separate ways, help us to feel

those thoughts that lift and bless, to

know a closer bond of friendliness;

to see thy beauty, always every day,

translated into living this we pray.

Amen

My National Reportby Mary Florence

Emerald Coast Chapter, I would like to thank each of you for the confi dence you place in me to serve as your 2016 Chapter Woman of the Year and your Top Ten Nominee. It was such an honor to serve as the National Nominating Committee Chair. We all had a great time in Chattanooga.

The National Leadership Conference had over 500 ABWA members. I am very proud to be a member of the strongest district in the association which is District 1. District 1 had 27 Best Practices Chapters. This is something that we all can be proud of. Tammy McDaniel was elected to the District 1 Ambassador Steering Committee. This is another great honor to have a National Ambassador as a member of our chapter. Teresa William from Atlanta and District 1 is our 2017 American Business Woman of ABWA, Dr. Sonja Ogletree Satani our past District 1 VP is our National Secretary Treasurer and Felicia Johnson is our District 1 Vice President.

The class was outstanding and I learned quite a bit about the different generations gaps. The hand of Friendship luncheon there were fi ve members that had sponsored 100 members. There were one member that had been a member for over 57 years. We had several fi rst timers at our table and they were all very impressed with the Conference. The fi rst timers stated the conference exceeded their expectation.

Fantastic Top Ten Speeches. I hope that each of you will get the opportunity to attend a National Leadership Conference and experience the true meaning of ABWA and the sisterhood that we all share.

Again, thank you for the experience and knowledge that I have gained over the years by attending the conferences.

Mary Florence

ABWA AT A GLANCE

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTABWA’s goal is to deliver real-life coursework for real life

business women that is directly transferable to the workplace.

The Association provides members with opportunities to

enhance their business acumen through online learning, national

and regional conference events, and monthly meetings. The

Women’s Instructional Network (WIN) is ABWA’s interactive,

online community which provides members with an exclusive

opportunity to network and access e-learning modules.

All members receive Women In Business® magazine, ABWA’s

award-winning publication that includes stories about topics that

have high interest to working women and high relevance to the

Association’s mission. Twice a year, members also receive a District

Newsletter that keeps them apprised of ABWA activities and

celebrations in their region.

ANNUAL REGIONAL AND NATIONAL EVENTSMembers have the opportunity to experience ABWA on

a grand scale at both the regional and national conferences.

Attendees of the annual national conference may choose from

a variety of programs designed to leverage their careers and

empower personal growth. Professional development seminars

include programs in leadership and technology, management,

entrepreneurial skills, and more.

Three regional conferences are held annually to support the

goal of strengthening the Association as well as its mission of

bringing women together to meet their personal and professional

needs. Each regional conference provides a blend of professional

development with members who are serving, or plan to serve, in a

leadership position with ABWA.
