Draft - CCGC Master Lesson Plan (MLP) Template Context Master Lesson Plans are a requirement of Transport Canada and are also considered a part of the normal list of academic documents used by most academic institutions. In some institutions they are called something different and often they look different based on the needs of the institution. In our case the Academic Managers have agreed that they want a common MLP document across the College. This documentation and its associated MLP Template is designed to assist with the achievement of this goal. Presently the CCGC is developing a document that will explain all of the CCGC’s Academic Documents. This should be up and visible on Drupal by the end of May. In the meantime, the following FAQs should help all concerned understand how to best apply the MLP or Master Lesson Plans. Note…CISs or Course Information Sheets are the strategic or parent documents. (Some sections in the MLP documents will be synchronized with the CISs.) The flow of documents is CIS → MLP → LP → Courseware Following Template Explained: The boxes, etc. in the following template are placed there in accordance with the work that was completed by the Arts, Sciences and Languages department. It has been further augmented by adding the items that were identified through the recent TC audit and by the Academic Managers working group. Sample content is included in place of an explanation when appropriate. With the exception of where it is obvious…each box has an explanation on its use where appropriate. Context

Master Lesson Plans are a requirement of Transport Canada and are also considered a part of the normal list of academic documents used by most academic institutions.

(Some sections in the MLP documents will be synchronized with the CISs.) The flow of documents is CIS → MLP → LP → Courseware

Following Template Explained:

The boxes, etc. in the following template are placed there in accordance with the work that was completed by the Arts, Sciences and Languages department. It has been further augmented by adding the items that were identified through the recent TC audit and by the Academic Managers working group. Sample content is included in place of an explanation when appropriate.

With the exception of where it is obvious…each box has an explanation on its use where appropriate. Comments and recommendations on improving this document are very welcome.

Nomenclature

Eventually each bullet will need to be rewritten into the competency format (STCW 95 requirement and still valid in the STCW Manila). This is a very easy task…we just need to add a verb that defines the level of knowledge or skill – taken from the list of acceptable verbs – and will then match the level addressed in the examination scheme. Sample verbs…explain, understand, demonstrate, value, etc.Sub-Competency 1.2 Explain the electronic structure of the atom (Atomic Theory) (Was – Phase 2 Electronic structure of the atom (Atomic theory))

Experimental analysis

Valence electrons….etc. etc. etc…

Sub-Competency 1.3 Explain chemical bonding

Sub-Competency 1.4 Explain thermochemistry

Sub-Competency 1.5 Explain oxidation-reduction (redox) reactions

Sub-Competency 1.6 Explain electrochemistry

Sub-Competency 1.7 Explain acids and bases

Sub-Competency 1.8 Explain the characteristics of solutions
