Swim Assessment (ages 12 and under)The MJCC Aquatics department is dedicated to teaching children to swim and stay safe in our pools. We have an outstanding aquatic facility that allows kids to enjoy the water safely under the close supervision of certified lifeguards. We require a swim assessment from each child under the age of 13. The swim assessment consists of swimming the length of the pool with arm strokes, climbing out, jumping back in and swimming backstroke the length of the pool. Please contact our Aquatics department for any questions regarding swim assessments.

Double Your Impact When You Donate to Roots & Rafters
Roots & Rafters, the Schnitzer Family Campus campaign to invest $3.5 million dollars in the physical plant for Mittleman Jewish Community Center and Portland Jewish Academy continues as we pass the $2.8 million mark. The Roots & Rafters campaign started in 2013 to complete the renovations and repairs that had been delayed when the recession hit at the end of the previous capital campaign.
Repairs and upgrades have been scheduled as the funds have been raised to cover the expenses. In the past year, we have upgraded lobby furniture, resurfaced the main pool, purchased new Selectorized fitness equipment, remodeled the men’s sauna, installed new lockers for the therapy pool, purchased an additional automated external defibrillator (AED), replaced the curtain in the gymnasium and installed a new automated eucalyptus infuser in the women’s steam room. With donations continuing to arrive, we are able to schedule more improvements in 2014 including:
• Carpet and paint in the therapy pool lobby• Hardware and fixtures in the therapy pool locker rooms• Parking lot repairs• Therapy pool HVAC unit• Energy-efficient lighting in the Sportsplex• Exterior therapy pool deck door
Please watch for these improvements over the next few months and excuse any disruption in service as we work to improve your future experiences.
The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation made a challenge grant of $500,000 to help us raise the last million dollars. That means that we only need to raise $330,000 more to complete the campaign with every dollar committed now being matched. Anyone interested in learning more or contributing to the Roots & Rafters campaign can visit the website at www.rootsandrafters.org or contact James K. Phelps, Director of Development at 503.535.3594 or [email protected] or Beth Germain, Interim Executive Director at 503.535.3593 or [email protected].
