Swim Assessment (ages 12 and under)The MJCC Aquatics department is dedicated to teaching children to swim and stay safe in our pools. We have an outstanding aquatic facility that allows kids to enjoy the water safely under the close supervision of certified lifeguards. We require a swim assessment from each child under the age of 13. The swim assessment consists of swimming the length of the pool with arm strokes, climbing out, jumping back in and swimming backstroke the length of the pool. Please contact our Aquatics department for any questions regarding swim assessments.

Double Your Impact When You Donate to Roots & Rafters

Roots & Rafters, the Schnitzer Family Campus campaign to invest $3.5 million dollars in the physical plant for Mittleman Jewish Community Center and Portland Jewish Academy, continues as we pass the $2.9 million mark. The Roots & Rafters campaign started in 2013 to complete the renovations and repairs that had been delayed when the recession hit at the end of the previous capital campaign.

The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation made a challenge grant of $500,000 to help us raise the last million dollars. That means that we only need to raise $250,000 more to complete the campaign with every dollar committed now being matched. Anyone interested in learning more or contributing to the Roots & Rafters campaign can visit the website at www.rootsandrafters.org or contact Steve Albert, Executive Director at 503.535.3592 or [email protected].

The Roots & Rafters Campaign has enabled us to make many upgrades so far. Here’s what we are still working on... • Parking lot repairs• Roof repairs• Upgrade our energy managment system to save energy and moneyWe hope you’ve been able to enjoy these Roots & Rafters upgrades:• New carpet and paint in the therapy pool lobby• New hardware and fixtures in the therapy pool locker rooms• Additional AED on the lower level of campus• Automated eucalyptus infuser in the women’s steam room• New exterior therapy pool deck door• Gymnasium curtain divider• Gaga pit and picnic tables• Selectorized fitness equipment and cycle bikes• More secure bike rack• New therapy pool HVAC unit• New energy efficient lighting in the Sportsplex• Upgraded our security system
