Costumes:

The girl will be wearing a leotard and a tutu with ballet shoes and is only shown in one outfit. This is to make the opening scene more realistic and believable which would create more tension for the audience watching.

The stepdads costume will be casual everyday clothes or a suit. The casual everyday clothes could suggest he is used to controlling the girl as he is not making a big deal out of it. However the suit could imply he makes an effort to watch her preform as if it is a fantasy or dream.

The girls makeup will be natural however she will be wearing a lot as if she was a doll as this will make her appear to be the stepdads puppet which will also emphasis the control he has over her.

Location:

The location will be in a dance studio with no colour other than the ballerina and a spotlight on her. This keeps mystery in the opening sequence and allows the audience to have questions about the girl and where its set which will intrigue them. also it builds tension as the audience don’t know what is happening which is a convention of a thriller film.

Props:

There will be no props throughout the opening sequence as it will be simple, this will cause the audience to have more questions and be more interested in the film. Also props aren’t needed as it will be the girl dancing throughout.

Lighting:

The lighting in the drama studio will consist of one spot light on the girl as she is the main character. This will allow the audience to focus on her and the dance which will give them a hint about what the film is about. The spotlight will be bright and sharp which could suggest she is the only thing the man cares about. Also the light could suggest she is an angel or being looked upon by God, this could be because she is religious or because she is dancing so gracefully she is angel like. The man wont have any light on him as he is not going to be shown.
