“The Grip of Steel” Non-Magnetic Stainless Steel Locking Barb – marine gradetype 316 - that firmly anchors inside the tie head, ensures a strong, reliable and longlasting fastening under adverse conditions.

Rounded Edges, on the head and the strap, provide a comfortable handlingof the ties and prevent sharp edges from damaging the cables. This gradualtransition from the strap to the head protects the material against breaking atthis most critical point. The edges of the head are also rounded off to offermaximum protection from injury.

Smooth, Notchless Body, reduces stress concentration points, making theTy-Rap® ties stronger and thinner than conventional ties with notched bodies. The low-profile design of the head allows secure tying in tight spaces. No serration, means infinite adjustment (tensioned right every time).

Ribbed and Stippled Surface,to prevent the tie from slipping around and along the bundle under vibrationconditions and external shock.

Angled Tail (turned up)for fast and easy insertion into the locking headand ideally suited to being picked up from a flat work area.

Non-Slip Tail, for an easy gripand pulling through the head during tensioning.

Extensive Range of Approvals:Germanischer Lloyd, Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, Bureau Veritas, UL, VG and MIL.

The Ty-Rap® premium cable ties with stainless steel barb are offered in awide variety ofmaterials, each suited for specific environments. The effects of weathering, flame, chemicals, extreme temperatures and radiation on the material can be different from onematerial to another, and therefore it is important to select the appropriate material according to the application.Below is an overview on the material properties which can be used as a guide towards the right material.

Material selection

Polyamide 6.6 Polyamide 4.6, extra high temperature (150°C)• When cable ties are used in extremely high temperature envi-ronments, the Polyamide 4.6 Ty-Rap® cable ties are the naturalchoice, as they offer an outstanding temperature resistance up to150°C while their other properties are similar to Polyamide 6.6

• Ideally recommended for industrial applications in OEM, MROand construction such as: metal processing, paper mills, lighting, automotive

Polyamide 12, weather resistant• When extra flexibility is required, especially at low temperatures, the Polyamide 12 Ty-Rap® cable ties offer the best solution.

• In addition they are less sensitive to moisture and as they areweather resistant, they can be used for indoor and outdoorapplications. The Polyamide 12 Ty-Rap® cable ties are only avail-able in a black UV-resistant version.

Polypropylene• Polyamide, in its various versions, is not the only material in whichthe Ty-Rap® cable ties can be made

• In particular, when cable ties are installed in chemically hostileenvironments, Polypropylene cable ties must be used as they re-sist a number of chemicals such as inorganic acids, polyhydricalcohols, neutral and basic salts.

• The Polypropylene Ty-Rap® cable ties are available in 2 versions:- weather-resistant black version, for outdoor or indoor applications- detectable blue version, for the food industry and for any con-tamination sensitive industry using detection equipment.

• The detectable version contains a compound detectable by metaldetectors and X-ray equipment. In addition, its bright bluecolour, plus its buoying property thanks to its light weight, alsocontributes to visual detection

ETFE Fluoropolymer• The Ty-Rap® cable ties in ETFE Fluoropolymer are the best allaround plastic cable ties. They are inert to most solvents andchemicals, hydrolytically stable, flame retardant (UL94 V-0) andradiation resistant (meet IEEE383).

• In addition they have a very high temperature resistance up to 150°Cand non-outgassing properties at very low pressure (vacuum).

• Recommended for the most demanding applications, includingin nuclear plants and at zero gravity.

ECTFE Fluoropolymer• The Ty-Rap® cable ties in ECTFE Fluoropolymer have similar per-formances to the ETFE Fluoropolymer cable ties, but in additionthey also have a lower smoke density when burnt, with a tem-perature resistance up to 140°C

• Recommended for applications where smoke generation is aconcern.

• All the detailed specifications of these materials are mentionedin the material properties and selection guide hereafter

Polyamide 6.6 is the most commonly used material in the Ty-Rap® cableties. It offers an excellent combination of mechanical performances(tensile strength, resistance to shock) and chemical behaviour (Halogenand Silicone free, good resistance to oils and chemicals), while presentinga very good resistance to environmental agents such as temperature(-40°C to +85°C) or fire (UL 94 V-2).

It is available in natural version or in a range of special versions

Polyamide 6.6, natural versionThe standard version of Polyamide 6.6 is mainly used for indoor appli-cations. Its characteristic colour is natural.

Polyamide 6.6, weather resistant version• The UV-resistant version of Polyamide 6.6 is mainly used for bothoutdoor and indoor applications.

• Its original color was black initially, but now it can be offered in anycolour since all the coloured Ty-Rap® cable ties are now UV-resistant.

Polyamide 6.6, heat stabilised version• The heat stabilised version of Polyamide 6.6 has an increased resistanceto temperature up to 105°C, while the other properties of standardPolyamide 6.6 are preserved.

• For indoor applications, mainly in OEM environment

Polyamide 6.6, heat stabilised & weather resistant version• These special Ty-Rap® cable ties are a combination of the weatherresistant and the heat stabilised versions.

• They are UV-resistant and offer an increased resistance to temperatureup to 105°C

• Available in black colour, they are recommended for outdoor appli-cations in OEM and MRO

Polyamide 6.6, flame retardant version• Special version of Polyamide 6.6 Ty-Rap® cable ties, with outstandingflame retardant properties (UL 94V-0).

• Ideally recommended for applications where low flammability andlow smoke are necessary such as in public transport applications(trains, tunnels)

Polyamide 6.6, détectable version• This special version of Polyamide 6.6 Ty-Rap® cable ties contains acompoundwhich is detectable bymetal detectors and X-ray equipment, and its specific bright blue colour also contributes to visual detection.

• Ideally recommended for the food industry and for any contaminationsensitive industry using detection equipment.

Material specifications

There is a number of factors to be considered when choosing the proper materials for a specific environment. As it is extremelydifficult to provide data on all the possible combinations or conditions that can occur, the table below can be used as a guide-line to chose the appropriate material according to the application

For example if the application is in an extremely cold environment, three material will answer your need: ETFE Fluoropolymer,Polyamide 12 and stainless steel. If the application also requires high tensile strength, then stainless steel is the best choice.Where high strength is not required, Polyamide 12 might be a less costly choice.
