Description AluthermoAluthermo is an insulating system that works by reflection. It consists of two layersseparated by a honeycomb structure of air bubbles sealed in a fireproofed (fireretardant) polyethylene film, which in turn is covered on both sides by a 30-micron thick pure aluminium foil that has been polished and treated against oxidation.

The various elements are assembled by thermal welding over the entire surface. The obtained complex is semi-rigid.

The air enclosed inside the bubble films is dry and stable. Any condensation istherefore prevented within the temperature ranges recommended for eachthickness of Aluthermo.

A+D 99% pure aluminium foil, 30 micronsthick

B+C Fire-retardant polyethylene film containing bubbles of dry and stable air.

Installation Methods

General

Waterproffing and AirtightnessTo reduce convection losses to a minimum, it is absolutely essential for the insulation to form a closed system that is sealed to the air outside the building

Aluthermo is laid over the full surface of the construcion

The edges of the successive strips of Aluthermo are overlapped over a width of 5 to 10 cm and sealed by means of Aluthermo aluminium adhesive tape , with a wide of 75 to 100 mm depending on the application

Since the Aluthermo insulation is thermally welded over ist entire surface, it can becut at any point. A normal cutter is sufficient for cutting the insulation.

Page 13: mise en oeuvre ENG [Read-Only] - Ehitusala

General

Waterproffing and Airtightness

• The 50 µm thickness of aluminium on this special adhesive tape also guarantees optimal reflection at the cutting points

• The surfaces must be free of dust and moisture

• After applying the adhesive, the bonded area must be wiped with a drycloth

General

Prescerving the air gap

To bring out the full insulating potential of Aluthermo in protecting againstenergy exchange by radiation, we recommended that you preserve an air gapof at least 2 cm on both sides of the Aluthermo.

To maximinise the soundproffing effect, Aluthermo must be streched out tight to prevent any point of contact with adjacent surfaces.

Page 15: mise en oeuvre ENG [Read-Only] - Ehitusala

General

Crushing

In response to the problem of crushing of the insulation material by roof battens, over the rafters, purlins, etc… Aluthermo prevents thermal bridging by ensuringcompensation between the timber and the honeycombed air bubbles.

Page 16: mise en oeuvre ENG [Read-Only] - Ehitusala

Description

As roof insulation

Page 17: mise en oeuvre ENG [Read-Only] - Ehitusala

General principles

For insulation from the outside:

• Unrolled horizontally over the rafters

• Starting at the bottom of the roof

• Provisionally fastened to the rafters by means of 20 mm.

• The next strips, ensure a „tile-effect“ overlap of 10 cm.

• Cover this overlap with 100 mm wide aluminium adhesive

• The spacing between rafters must not exceed 60 cm

• Aluthermo strips must be streched out tight.

Page 18: mise en oeuvre ENG [Read-Only] - Ehitusala

The Battens must then be installed as follows:

• Firstly, counter-battens measuring a minimum of 24 mm thick by 4 to 5 cm wide must be fastened on top of the rafters, vertically in relation to the eaves, usingtwisted nails with a minimum lenght of 60 mm orscrews.

• Secondly, lay the battens for attaching the roofing(tiles, slates, etc.) parallel to the eaves and fix them to the counter-battens.

If decking is required in order to attach the roofingmaterial (zinc, certain types of slate etc.), the woodenboards must be fixed parallel to the eaves above the counter-battens.

This method of installation guarantees:

1. a minimum air gap of 2 cm between the roofing and the Aluthermo insulation

2. assisting infrared reflection by Aluthermo

3. ensuring ample ventilation

Installation of roof vents is recommended

Aluthermo is waterproof and airtight, thereis no need for a roof lining or vapourbarrier.

Make sure that the fram is perfectly drybefore installing Aluthermo.

Chimney join

Page 32: mise en oeuvre ENG [Read-Only] - Ehitusala

If the exterior temperature of the chimney exceeds or attains 90°C, the Aluthermo insulation must not be laid any closer than 20 cm to the chimney.

The remaining distance can be filled with a non-combustible insulating material (French category „MO“)

Page 34: mise en oeuvre ENG [Read-Only] - Ehitusala

Construct a batten frame on top of the lath decking to establish an air gapbetween the Aluthermo and the decking.

This frame is formed by criss-cross battening:

1. Start at the bottom of the surface to be insulated.

2. At this level, parallel to the eaves, fastern a basebatten having the sameheigt as will be used forthe vertical counterbattens.

3. Then nail the counter-battens, measuring a minimum of 30 mm high by 50 mm wide, throughthe decking into the rafters.

Page 35: mise en oeuvre ENG [Read-Only] - Ehitusala

1. Unroll the Aluthermo insulation horizontally, parallel to the eaves, over these verticalcounter battens.

2. Staple the bottom edge of the Aluthermo to the vertical side of the base batten, with a spacing of 5 cm between staples.

3. Seal this joint with aluminium adhesivetape.

4. Lay the other strips of Aluthermo insulation, overlapping each strip by 10 cm in ‚tileeffect“.

5. Cover each overlap with the aluminiumadhesive tape.

6. Fasten a second level of verticalcounterbattens to the existing framebase

7. Followed by the horizontal battens forattaching roofing.
