Replying to supplimentaries in the Question Hour in Rajya Sabha today, Minister of State for Defence Shri Shripad Naik said, presently entry of girls in five Sainik Schools has been allowed. He said, earlier, the co- educational policy adopted on a pilot-basis at Sainik School in Mizoram now is being implemented across the country. Taking a step in this direction, the Transport Department considered the idea of giving the buses a new and attractive appearance. Team of officials from various sections in the Transport Department worked in unison and finalized a new design which depicts the natural beauty and historic importance of the Islands. This effort has been made to give a new look to the express buses being operated on Andaman Trunk Road in the first phase. Accordingly, the first revamped bus has been dedicated to the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in a simple function by Director of Transport, Dr. Navlendra Kumar Singh from the bus terminus, Port Blair. Effort of the Department in improving the appearance and beauty of the buses will continue in a phased manner. "As an artist, I can do many things to help make the world a better place. Empty walls always reckon me with ideas and this is a small effort from my side. The wall painting was mostly done during night hours after finishing my office work. Through my paintings, I have depicted how plastic harms marine life. One part of the painting shows fish in the sea enjoying their life with no pollution while the other half shows plastic pollution and its impact on marine organisms”, said Senthil.
