If, deserters are as prompt in returning in j other paits of the country, the ranks of the army will be tolerably well filled. Owing to the impressment of boats into the Government service, there is a great scarcity of tug boats, and it is almost impossible to send freight forward to St. Louis. Chicago Journal. The telegraph from Fortress Mon- roe reports the death of James Louis Pet- igru, of Chari stou. South Carolina, one i of the ablest lawyers of the State, and its j noblest man.
