Welcome to a new year in Performing Arts! As we embark on the journey to bring PIRATES OF PENZANCE to life, we will need your help in gathering your costumes. Read this instructional sheet carefully. Pay special note to the established deadlines. We respectfully ask that all commit to these dates. Any questions or concerns, please contact us. We are here to help! 1. All required items are due on Monday, October 24, 2016. This is necessary so costume fittings can proceed in the short allotted time available

2. Secondary Items due Monday, November 7, 2016. Options for Obtaining Student’s Costume

● Thrift stores ● Internet ● Local stores ● Family’s closets ● Check the opposite gender department in stores ● Some costumes pieces/shoes may be available from our costume room at MMS, 1st come 1st served.

IMPORTANT: Text, email or call Girija or Kat by Monday, October 17th, 2016 to schedule a time to see what’s available. No requests after this date, please.

Other Important information

● You are not required to buy anything new ● The costume department has the option to reject an item if it does not fit with the look of the play ● Leave tags on items, if not used they can be returned ● Please do not bring any item that can’t be altered or changed ● Bring larger rather than smaller items ● No item too constricting or tight fitting – student’s need to move on stage easily ● Footwear should be well fitting and suited to all stage activity ● LABEL each item and the bag/container it comes in with your CHILD’S NAME. (This will save us

important time often lost tracking down unidentified costumes) A Final Note about Deadlines: We depend on your assistance. As mentioned, we are ready to help in any way we can, but we rely on your good communication. If the deadlines are missed without any student/family contact, the school will obtain the garments and bill the family’s account.

Pirates of Penzance

Swarthy Sal, a Pirate Pirate Crew Group 2

This play takes place in the 1890’s. Look at the pictures that are included showing the

look we are going for. Costume pieces can be altered to better fit the time period, size,

or length. Fabrics are natural looking, linen, wool, cotton, silk, and corduroy. The colors

are deep, rich jewel tones or earthy softer shades. Nothing bright neon or sparkly.

Costume pieces may look faded and/or worn. Check with the costume room early to see

if we have anything that might fit you.

Required Items These items must be turned in by October 24th.

1. SHIRT: Men’s dress style shirt, oversized, not fitted, button down front with

collar, long sleeves and cuffs, color – pale or faded look blue, green, red, orange

or tan.

2. PANTS: Loose fitting style, calf or ankle length, wide straight legs, color – dark

shades of black or navy blue.

3. SASH/BELT/ROPE: (Choose one) Sash: long rectangular shape to wear around

hips, with or without fringe, solid or subtle pattern or weave, color - to contrast

with other costume pieces. OR Belt: medium to wide width, leather look, color –

brown or black. OR Rope: medium or larger size, natural fibers, not shiny or

plastic or bright colors, to use as belt.

Secondary Items These items are required but we are giving you a little extra time in

case they need to be ordered. They are due November 7th.

1. SHOES: Chinese Maryjane OR Kung-Fu style, cotton, color – black

Optional Items These items are not required but can make your costume more fun and

interesting, please bring as many as you can, no later than November 7th.

1. NECKLACE: Beaded or pendant style, medium or large sized, choose from natural

materials like, shells, sharks teeth, wooden or metal, and thin rope. See photos

2. EARRING(S): Large hoop or dangly bead styles, see photos.

3. HEADWEAR: Beany style hat or narrow scarf to tie around head.

4. WEAPON: Dagger or pistol, not to exceed 12”, plastic or wood only, see photos.

5. BELT FOR BANDOLIER: Long enough to wear across the chest bandolier style to

hold your weapon, Appx. 3” wide, leather look, color - brown or black.

This play takes place in the 1890’s. Look at the pictures that are included showing the

or length. Fabrics are natural looking, nothing shiny or sparkly. Check with the costume

room early to see if we have anything that fits you.

Required Items These items must be turned in by October 24th.

1. SUIT (COAT & PANTS): Traditional cut, color – black, (if you can’t find a suit

then bring a suit coat and dress slacks, color - black)

2. BELT: 2 to 3 inches wide, long enough to fit over the coat, leather look, color –

black

3. SOCKS: Dress style, color - black

Secondary Items These items are required but we are giving you a little extra time in

case they need to be ordered. They are due November 7th.

1. SHOES: Oxford or slip on style dress style, color - black (no flats) (See photo)
