INFORMATIONTwo major Michigan engineering organizations, the
American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) are
working together to host a comprehensive, educational
engineering conference. These groups represent over
5,000 Michigan engineers and over 100 Michigan
engineering companies. The Michigan Engineering
Conference offers attendees ample opportunity for
obtaining professional development hours (PDH’s) while
gaining knowledge on various engineering topics and
networking with peers. It will also offer exposure to
new products and services from exhibitors on May 9 as
they will be located in the Heritage Room for maximum
exposure to attendees from the opening session to
the evening reception. ACEC and ASCE will present
outstanding project and individual awards during
the event on Thursday, May 9. On Friday, May 10, a

Keynote Speaker
Dan Gilmartin is the
executive director & CEO
of the Michigan Municipal
League. Through his work
with communities, Dan is
recognized as a national
leader in the fields of urban revitalization,
placemaking, local government reform
and transportation policy. Model D Media
recently referred to him as “an urban
thinker with an eye for the small, often
unnoticed changes that can make ‘places’
out of streets and buildings.”
Dan serves as a member of the Board of
Directors of the National League of Cities
and as a member of the Michigan Future,
Inc. Leadership Council. He also served
for four years as the lead advocate for
Michigan’s communities in Lansing and
in Washington, where he concentrated
on a number of key issues including
transportation, land use, and urban
redevelopment.
In 2010, Dan added radio talk show host
to his resume as host of The Prosperity
Agenda on News/Talk 760 WJR, which is
Michigan’s highest rated talk station and
can be heard throughout the Midwest
and Canada. He is a contributing author

(and booster) and currently resides in
the historic downtown of Northville,
Michigan with his wife Lori and two sons.
INFRASTRUCTURE PANELVarious reports, including ASCE’s Infrastructure Report
Card, have shown that Michigan’s infrastructure is in

recovery. A panel of Industry leaders will discuss the state
of Michigan’s infrastructure and strategies for making
improvements. Members of the panel to include:
Kirk Steudle, PE Director, MDOT
Steve Hilfinger, Executive VP, MEDC (invited)
