MICHIGAN ENGINEERING CONFERENCE MAY 9 & 10, 2013 MSU UNIVERSITY CLUB | LANSING, MI INFORMATION Two major Michigan engineering organizations, the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) are working together to host a comprehensive, educational engineering conference. These groups represent over 5,000 Michigan engineers and over 100 Michigan engineering companies. The Michigan Engineering Conference offers attendees ample opportunity for obtaining professional development hours (PDH’s) while gaining knowledge on various engineering topics and networking with peers. It will also offer exposure to new products and services from exhibitors on May 9 as they will be located in the Heritage Room for maximum exposure to attendees from the opening session to the evening reception. ACEC and ASCE will present outstanding project and individual awards during the event on Thursday, May 9. On Friday, May 10, a scholarship golf outing will also be held at the Forest Akers East golf course. DAN GILMARTINExecutive Director & CEO, Michigan Municipal League (MML)

Keynote Speaker

Dan Gilmartin is the

executive director & CEO

of the Michigan Municipal

League. Through his work

with communities, Dan is

recognized as a national

leader in the fields of urban revitalization,

placemaking, local government reform

and transportation policy. Model D Media

recently referred to him as “an urban

thinker with an eye for the small, often

unnoticed changes that can make ‘places’

out of streets and buildings.”

Dan serves as a member of the Board of

Directors of the National League of Cities

and as a member of the Michigan Future,

Inc. Leadership Council. He also served

for four years as the lead advocate for

Michigan’s communities in Lansing and

in Washington, where he concentrated

on a number of key issues including

transportation, land use, and urban

redevelopment.

In 2010, Dan added radio talk show host

to his resume as host of The Prosperity

Agenda on News/Talk 760 WJR, which is

Michigan’s highest rated talk station and

can be heard throughout the Midwest

and Canada. He is a contributing author

to the book The Economics of Place, and a

frequent speaker on matters pertaining to

“place.”

Dan is a Michigan kid, a Detroit native

(and booster) and currently resides in

the historic downtown of Northville,

Michigan with his wife Lori and two sons.

INFRASTRUCTURE PANELVarious reports, including ASCE’s Infrastructure Report

Card, have shown that Michigan’s infrastructure is in

major need of repair. Many believe that investing in our

infrastructure will be a catalyst for Michigan’s economic

recovery. A panel of Industry leaders will discuss the state

of Michigan’s infrastructure and strategies for making

improvements. Members of the panel to include:

GOLF OUTING INFORMATIONA golf outing has been scheduled on site for Friday, May

10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Forest Akers Golf Course. The

cost is $80 per person and all members and exhibitors are

encouraged to participate. It is the perfect networking

opportunity and a chance to have a little fun at the same

time! This will be an 18 hole, 4 person scramble - so

you don’t have to be a great golfer! Hole sponsorships

are available, and proceeds benefit the engineering

MDOT MEGA Projects

Two major freeway corridors (I-75

& I-94) in metro Detroit need to

be reconstructed. MDOT is in the

process of determining the best

delivery method and project size to

re-build these sections that is cost-

effective, minimizes traffic delays,

and maximizes Michigan business

participation.
