SUBICSUBICThe Subic Bay Freeport (formerly Subic Naval Base) is located 110 kilometers north of Manila and is adjacent to Olongapo City. It faces the South China Sea and lies northwest of the Bataan Peninsula and southwest of Zambales Province.

From the sea, the Subic Bay Freeport looks more like a huge commercial and industrial complex with hotels and resorts, rather than a naval base that is nestled at the foot of the Bataan Zambales mountain range. Visible, too, are the de luxe villas that were the residences constructed during the 1996 APEC Summit for the heads of state. Up close, the Subic Bay Freeport has little resemblance to the way it looked before the American troops left in 1992.

Inside the complex are golf courses, a yacht club, a casino, hotels and on the southern fringes beyond the airport are the Hidden Beach, Miracle Beach, Nabasan Beach, while behind the airport are the Officers Beach and All Hands Beach favored by US servicemen. Just four kilometers north of the base in Barrio Barreto is the Baloy Beach, one of the better beaches in Luzon.

Samat Express leaves Manila from the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex in Roxas Boulevard and takes you to the port of Orion in the province of Bataan. CLARKCLARKAbout 80 kilometers north of Manila is a former American air base that has seen some transformation since it was reverted to the Philippine government, a few months after the Mt. Pinatubo Volcano eruption in June 1991. Very much like the phoenix, it rose from the ashes.

The biggest American military installation outside the United States, the former Clark Air Base (now Clark Special Economic Zone) in Clark Field, Pampanga occupies an area of 33,653 hectares of flat, rolling rugged and even mountainous terrain. It used to be the home of the US 13th Air Force and 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing whose peacekeeping mission covers the entire Pacific region.With the expiration of the Republic of the Philippines–US Bases Agreement in November 1991, the former Clark Air Base was reverted to the Philippine Government. It is now being converted into an economic zone that is attracting major manufacturing and exporting companies from around the world.The most valuable piece of infrastructure that the Philippines inherited from the US Air Force is the 2,500 hectare aviation complex now known as the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport which has two 3.2 - kilometer parallel runways.

With the new international airport, Clark is envisioned to become an Aerotropolis an airport-driven development aimed to trigger economic growth in Central and Northern Luzon through its full utilization as a premiere gateway.

At present, Clark is also a center of exciting eco-tourism activity: as a jump urnp off point for trekking to the astounding crater lake of Mt. Pinatubo and to Mount Arayat, a dormant volcano that can be easily scaled. It is also a center for thrilling adventure sports like hot air balloon flying, parachuting, micro light flying and off-road motorcycling.

These describe the small but astonishingly beautiful island called Boracay.Located on the northwestern end of Panay Island, Boracay is a dumbbell-shaped island that is only seven kilometers long and one kilometer wide at its narrowest tip. The terrain of this 1,083 hectare-island is fairly flat with its highest point at a mere 100 meters, with beaches fringed with coconut trees, tropical palms and flowering plants, its hills covered with coconut grove, lush vegetation of shrubs, wild vines, and trees barely camouflaging caves inhabited by bats.Boracay's tours de force are its beaches – there are 30 of them – ranging from an almost four-kilometer stretch of white powdery sand that does not burn under the blazing sun, to a kilometer-long beach of gold sand speckled with tiny puka shells, and to largely untamed and less visited strips that ardent windsurfers favor because of sweeping winds. The flight is one hour long. From Kalibo Airport, a shuttle bus will take visitors through a 90-minute scenic journey through the Aklan province countryside to the Caticlan jetty port.At Caticlan Airport, tricycles (motorcycles with sidecars) can take visitors to the Caticlan jetty port, only 5 minutes away. From the Caticlan jetty port, Boracay is only a short 20-minute boat ride.

The trip is split into two (2): a 3 to 4-hour drive from Iloilo to Kalibo, and, transferring to another vehicle, from Kalibo to Caticlan, for a one-and-a-half-hour drive. CEBUCEBUCebu City is the country's oldest city, having been established in the early 1700s. Often called the "Queen City of the South" and the Seat of Christianity in the Philippines, Cebu City is a unique blend of tropical paradise and business haven. In a survey of the cities of Asia, Asiaweek (October 25, 1996) named Cebu City the "eighth most livable city in Asia" and was the only Philippine city in the survey's Top Ten.

Livable and lively, yet Cebu is steeped in a rich historic past –from the pre-colonial times (there are archaeological evidence indicating it was already a settlement site as early as the tenth century) to the time the great explorer Ferdinand Magellan planted on April 14, 1521 the wooden cross to mark the beginning of the Christianization of the island and the rest of the archipelago. For the Cebuanos (and all Filipinos in general), the replica of the cross now housed in the kiosk built on the hallowed spot where Magellan first planted it, has remained the symbol of faith, along side with the Basilica del Santo Nino where the country's oldest and most precious Christian relic, the Santo Nino, is enshrined.

Cebu is also a cosmopolitan city with all modern conveniences and amenities: excellent accommodations like city hotels and beach resorts, fine restaurants, exciting nightlife and special interest activities like golf and water sports, most specially diving and snorkeling in exceptional sites.

CEBUCEBUThe Cebu Port, one of the busiest ports in the country, receives several passenger and cargo ships daily servicing the Cebu-Manila and vice-versa route and daily trips to the different major cities in theVisayan and Mindanao such as Tagbilaran, Dumaguete, Ormoc, Cagayan de Oro, Ozamis, General Santos and Surigao.

There are also fast crafts operating in Cebu that service the Cebu-Tagbilaran, Cebu-Dumaguete and Cebu-Ormoc and vice-versa routes. It usually takes at least two hours to reach said destinations.

Various native motorized outrigger canoes called banca are popularly used for inter-island travel adventure or locally called 'island hopping'. These boats can be rented from various resorts offering island tour packages or from any boat operators around Cebu's premium island resorts like Mactan, Malapascua, Bantayan and Camotes. Most diving operators usually have their own bancas for diving tours to some of the best dive sites in the island. Locals also ride the banca in traveling to the neighboring islands.

Metered taxis, as well as jeepneys, are generally available in the downtown areas and in the vicinity of hotels, restaurants, shopping malls and entertainment centers within the metro. In fact, the telephone numbers of taxi companies are listed in the local telephone directory so that one can just call if ever taxi services are needed. Jeepneys, too, can be found almost anywhere within the metro area. At present, the minimum jeepney fare is P7 for the first five kilometers.To reach the cities and municipalities outside Metro Cebu, there are buses and vehicles-for hire available round the clock at the North Bus Terminal for areas in the north and the South Bus Terminal for areas in the south. Travelers can choose between airconditioned and non airconditioned buses while vehicles-for-hire are usually airconditioned vans.
